Kralog scoffs. "Of course." But he seems to say it more out of habit than certainty.
"And maybe you shouldn't rest, that's a great time for people to stab you. So now that you defeated these wolves, what about the skeletons? And the trap?"
"Maybe I would have needed a small amount of help," he admits.
"Do you see why you will die on your own?"

You all come to a room that is 40 feet square, it is comprised of alternating marble tiles of black and white, much akin to a chess board. This encounter begins when the 1st person steps on a tile. Whoever was going first or anyone willing to take that spot and go 1st themselves... and the order you all agree on entering the room in will also serve as your initiative, but just for this encounter.
Good luck and have fun.

"Run thy sword across my chains, Silver Lady, that I may join your dance.”
Joroden holds up the raven perched on his forearm.
"This room is very clearly a trap. I suggest we send my friend Artur here first. If injury befalls him, he can be brought back to us with minimal trouble."
If no one objects, Artur will fly over and land on the first tile.

(OOC: The lettering and numbering make it seem like there is a map... However, I don't have access to any map. Is it all theatre of the mind? Or am I missing something?)
Horxik stays put on the back of his goat, his mount would likely be too large to fit on any of the squares and he doesn't want to risk triggering a trap by standing on too many squares at the same time.

(Those who guessed chess are correct. This chamber is based off of a checkerboard or chess board. There are 8 tiles by 8 tiles, in a checkerboard pattern of alternating black and white tiles. Each tile is 5 feet by 5 feet. And the 1st to enter was at the position of the white king (K1... or e1 in chess notation) the next was the owl at (KB1 or f1) and then the raven at (KN1 or g1.)
(going forward I will only post the alpha-numeric designation for a tile, they are lettered from left to right, a to h, and from the 1st rank you enter on to the opposite side of the room, 1 to 8.)
When the owl lands on (f1) 40 feet directly opposite on (f8) appears a skeletal figure in tattered black robes. Waiting... silently... expectantly...
When the raven lands on (g1) 40 feet directly opposite on (g8) appears a orc wearing black armor and mounted on a black horse. He is tensed and ready to charge. The horse occasionally kicking it's hoof to spark against the tile.
(note: players are free to quit this encounter and go back, but to continue past all must eventually enter... at least those who want to see what this room guards or protects?)
