(The night before, KD blinks furiously, astounded at forgetting the weapon Onu uses. She takes hold of the sword and disappears with it for the night, and when she reappears in the morning, she hands it back.)
"Made some improvements, give it a try,"she says, handing it over to Onu.
The blade has a bit of a gyroscope embedded in the pommel that helps stabilize it when swung and provides more power during strikes. The blade is a bit sharper, and the balance is corrected. It feels like a dream if Onu tries some forms. (It's now a +1 weapon.)
“Oh ho ho! Dwarves Excavation you say, eh?” A familiar face pokes her head into the doorway. You’re greeted with a warm smile from Joybell. “The morning winds whisper of the dragon soaring through there last night.” She skips up with some brew and breakfast goodies just for the crew.
“Got everything you need before checking out then dears?” Joybell would help the monk check himself over, dusting off his tailcoat and confirming his stitch work was well done. “It’s a bit gloomy out there today.” Little feet would pitter patter, weaving around the rest of the group, checking on them too, making sure they didn’t forget any of their things as they were preparing to leave.
(Just doing one last check to make sure everyone’s good to go :) )
Joybell's energy could invigorate even a hybernating possum, and in case of adventurers ready to ... well, adventuring, it was almost an overkill. At least Lilly was not the list scared by casual mention of the dragon, but instead felt the rush of adrenalin and a strong desire to see that flight. "Yes, we are going now. Do be careful here! Manticores, shapechangers, dragons - these lands are not safe."She shook her head with a look of someone wise and experienced, who saw it all by now (she even believed it).
Lilly patiently waited for KD and Onu to finish their conversation with the inventors, but as soon as it was done, she was the first one out of the caves and on the way to the dwarves now. (Ok, maybe second - she did not have the map - but on the way she was!)
Onu's face breaks into an open grin as KD hands him back the cleverly concealed and now beautifully balanced blade.
'This, this is remarkable! I've never held it's equal!' he swishes and slices through the air, feeling the bite of the blade and the balance of the weapon.
'Remarkable. You're absolutely brilliant!' he slides the blade back into it's hiding spot inside the walking stick, shoots his cuffs and straightens his lapels. Properly prepared to meet the challenges of the day ahead, he turns to the rest of the group.
'Dwarves and dragons, eh? Seems like we've landed ourselves smack in the center of an adventure right out of a storybook. Well, let's be off and onto the next chapter my friends!'
KD smiles, pats Onu on the side of the shoulder, and says in one breath, "so glad you like it now don't lose it but actually if you do I can pretty easily make another so feel free to lose it," looking down at the ground, awkwardly. She looks up, smiles quickly again, and prepares for travel. She's very happy to provide something useful to her friend.
As the party gets ready, she happily accepts the detect magic and identify scrolls. "You should take the wand... I'd love to experiment with it now and then if that's alright. It might help me make other things. But I think you would do best with it, maybe to make some really useful distractions? And this pole, well, if none of the rest of you want it, I'd be happy to study it and try to come up with some uses for it. Supposed to help us fight a dragon, somehow. But only if no one else wants it. If so, I'd just ask for the same privilege to experiment with it when you're not using it. The hat needs a wizard and I know I can't use it, so until we find a wizard who might want to buy it, well, I'd just experiment with it, probably uselessly. Actually, now that I remember the quest, the townmaster will pay us 50 gold for anything we get from the gnomes that we can't use. So next time we're in town we can do that, and collect 25 gold for warning Adabra. Seems for now, though, we need to warn the dwarves in the mountains to the west."
KD was met with practically no resistance when she spent her time in the Inventor's workshop. She respected Fibblestib's policies for entry and handling of equipment and Dabbledob appreciated having an extra mind to bounce ideas around. A fresh perspective is always welcomed when looking to forward ones tech and grow intelligence. Of course the King's word made it throughout Gnomengarde, which added to the prestige of having the artificer work in their space. And when she'd produce more than one success in one night, well, their minds were practically blown. Both inventors would personally invite Kothe Dorion (and friends) back to their workshop any time, and of course, she'd be welcome to any material in their treasury should she need something with just the right touch. As an added benefit to her (and friends), they'd be willing to apprentice the young artificer, perhaps even work on her larger projects while she's away... The possibilities?!
As Lilly waited patiently, Joybell would gesture to call the young halfling in for a little huddle chat. Instead, she'd sweep the wise young soul into a wide stepped dance and youthful giggles. "And yet it's still filled with love and joy worth fighting for, isn't it?" She smile a warm smile, guiding the halfling around the room. Gentle, sharing energy energy and showing grace, the old gnome would eventually lead the very prepared Lilly to the door.
Having finally let the young woman go, Joybell would wave the other awaiting adventurer's over. Lining them up, she'd check them over one last time, tucking a few last minute things into their packs. Like a fussing nan, she topped up rations and her brew, but not only that, she snuck a couple special items in. "Oh just a little jam and some cooking spirits hunny!" And when everyone, she,was ready, gnome would send you all off with a proud wave, watching out a cave entrance until you were all out of view.
Joybell was right, it was a bit of a gloomy day. The sun was hiding behind the clouds and the mist poured from the water, clinging to the mountains. But based on the map, if you follow the base of the mountains to the east you'll be able to make it to Dwarven Excavations for around lunch time.

Medicinal Herbs:3 bundles Description: Ingredients for poultices and potions
Cooking Herbs:2 bundles Description: Ingredients to spice up a meal. Adds advantage to cooking.
Tea Herbs:4 bundles Description: Ingredients to add a drink to meal. Adds 1d4 healing to meal/rations.
Wild Phandalin Berries:6 Description: A creature can use its action to eat one berry. Eating a berry restores 1 hit point, and the berry provides enough nourishment to sustain a creature for one day. The berries lose their potency if they have not been consumed within 48 hours of picking. (treating similar to Goodberry)
You carry on for several miles when the landscape begins to change. Trees start thinning out and it becomes more mountainous up ahead. Eventually, you find yourself on the eastern end of a canyon.
Arrival: The Dwarven Excavation
The canyon’s rocky walls rise to a height of eighty feet. At the end of the canyon, a twenty-foot-high wall of black stone has a broken gate carved into it, with one stone door hanging precariously by a hinge and the other door missing. Beyond this open gate, in the shadow of a great mountain to the east, lies a ruined settlement. All is quiet.
"Is it supposed to look like this?" The flyer did mention ruins, but to Lilly's eyes that looked way too ... "ruin-y", more like something modern that was destroyed rather than an excavating site. On the other hand, she never saw an archaeological dig, maybe everything was in order after all. But there were are the dwarves? She scratched her nose and asked out loud "Anyone sees any dwarves? Or are they all somewhere... digging? Guess we shall find out." And Lilly bravely moved forward to the gates.
Plants and herbs were definitely not something the paladin would consider himself well versed in, though he seemed to be proud of remembering the certain flora that Lilly had plucked during their journey. He pockets them for now, and reminds himself to give some of them (mainly the cooking herbs) to Lilly for use.
Upon their arrival to the excavation site, Demetrios gives the area a quick scan, brow quirked, looking for any signs of life (footprints, anything looking recently moved, etc).
Not sure what you'd want me to roll for so here's a 20 - 16 +3 if perception -1 if investigation!

The hairs on the back of Onu's neck prickle a feeling he's learned to trust when running a con. The sense that something was off or not going the way he expected. He falls back a bit from the group, watching and covering their backtrail, ready to respond if - or when - a threat materializes. Perception 7
As they approach the gated wall, the Monk slips through the party and touches Lily lightly on her arm. 'One moment my dear, let me make sure they haven't left anything for unwanted visitors'. With that, he glides forward staying out of sight as best he can and examining the ground, the trees and the wall carefully as he approaches.
Stealth: 13 Investigation: 14 (oh my, forgot that this isn't Onu's superpower :)
Lilly did indeed move through the gates without fear to find that (E1) the canyon floor was strewn with rubble and bereft of vegetation except for a few tough, scraggly weeds.
History/Religion Check (DC10)
All knowledge of this settlement, including its name, vanished along with its original inhabitants, who were killed by an avalanche.
Although Onu paused Lilly to carry on further ahead, the halfling would continue her tour of the place(E2). The rubble that once buried the settlement has been hauled away, leaving the outlines of stone buildings visible as collapsed walls. It was easy to see that the settlement had been thoroughly ransacked. Mostly everyone's search through the ruins only turned up a few crushed dwarf bones and signs of recent campfires. Nothing of material value.
Onu would slink further through beyond a partially collapsed, ten-foot-high wall that separates the courtyard from the settlement west of it. (E3)Three heaps of rubble are piled high in this area. Hewn from the canyon’s back wall, a thirty-foot-high temple facade features steps rising to a stone platform. Cut into this facade is a ten-foot-high open doorway flanked by crumbling, life-sized granite statues of cloaked dwarves. Evil grins can be seen on their weatherworn faces.
