Mal wakes up and stumbles to his feet. Seeing Bree he just runs over to her and scoops her up in a giant, his eyes are slightly glazed over.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm so sorry. I couldnt,- I tried to get you away, but you still-. Gods I should have never brought us here. Are you okay? Does anything hurt?"
Yasei wakes up, but doesn't get up. She just lays there, on the ground, facing upwards. Laughing. Laughing harder than she ever has. Laughing so hard, her voice becomes horse.
After about 60 seconds of this, she arches her back, flips her feet up in the air, completing a beautiful handspring front layover, landing on her feet. (Acrobatics: 18). A bit wobbly. She then saunters over to the rest of the group, and proudly proclaims "A GOOD day to die, INDEED!"
Bree is not among the group, Mal. You don't see her. Her corpse is not there, either.
Looking around wildly, you spot someone sitting a little ways off, staring out into the great lake of lava, steam from the river rising up. It is a tiefling woman, blue skinned, horns, black hair. She is dressed in dark, muted clothes. She turns to look back at you all, and she is stunning to look at. Her face is sad, her eyes glow white a moment, then fade to normal, purple cat slit irises. There is a purple ribbon tied to one of her horns.
"I think they killed Bumble," she says, and a tear drips off her cheek.
OOC > The Wild Surge before the one that caused the explosion said, "If you die in the next minute, come back per reincarnate." That's why I was counting rounds and death saves. This is why she had a different experience than the rest of you, too. The pic is someone's art of Jester, who I guess is a character in Critical Role now? I don't watch it.
Yasei removes her armor, and kneels before the group. In a proud voice, she recites:
“Rehearse your death every morning and night. Only when you constantly live as though already a corpse (jōjū shinimi) will you be able to find freedom in the martial Way, and fulfill your duties without fault throughout your life.”
“I have honored you, father.”
And with that, Yasei no ōkiddo, daughter of Shogun Ashikaga, removes her wakizashi from its scabbard and with one swift, well practiced move, stabs herself in the belly. With her considerable strength and fortitude, she pulls the blade horizontally across, left to right. With a sharp pull upwards at the end, thereby creating a flap so the guts could fall out, she severs her spinal column and slices her snake god, Kubazan, in half.
In a low voice, barely above a whisper, she calls out “I’m coming home....”
Last night, I went to bed full of excitement, thinking about how I wanted to develop Yasei as we go further on in this campaign. This morning, I awoke to finding a message in my inbox, complaining about how I’m playing her. This has happened time and time again with this campaign to me and others. Guys, we’re all here to have fun. No one is cheating. We’re all trying to play fairly, and learn and enjoy ourselves while doing so. Enjoy the interactions with other fellow gamers. Learn new things (I’ve spent a TON of time reading, offline, about samurai so I can play Yasei more accurately and true to form as a samurai). But all I keep seeing in this campaign is players ripping on other players or the DMs actions. Players constantly trying to bring up things they don’t like or don’t agree with. Players acting like everyone else is doing things unfairly. That just completely deflates me, and I know it takes the wind out of the DMs sails as well. I can’t stand that. I don’t enjoy hanging around people in life who constantly nit pick and complain. It’s not my definition of a fun time. Playing D&D is supposed to be FUN, and I’m at my wits end now, not have myself any fun. I thought it would be enjoyable to play a character class I knew nothing about, but apparently everyone else has their own impressions about how I should be playing her that clash with my own. So with that, I’m calling it quits with this campaign. Please, enjoy yourselves. Stay. Learn. Have fun. But most of all, let OTHERS have fun too.
I appreciate you voicing your opinion, and explaining how you feel. I'm sure that took guts. I enjoyed your characters, I admire the time you took to read up on it, and I feel like you added a lot to the campaign with a very interesting character. I will miss Yasei, but maybe i'll see her again sometime in the future.
In the meantime, I still would like to finish the campaign, because I believe the others are still having fun. Thanks again for everything.
With Yasei's death, the trickster god inside her returns to the realm it once came, leaving the Prime Material Plane. Yasei has returned home. But like all things, the show must go on, there is still much at stake, even through the loss of another character.
OOC > It's been a real pleasure, Merlin. Wind at your back. Kimini sachiare!
Bree
As the others look on with horror at Yasei's actions, the tiefling stands swiftly, dark ribbons swirling about her, magical embers showering about her, eyes glowing white again. But then she frowns a moment, and the frown smooths away as the others react to Yasei's death. Again, she looks sad, and she slowly sits down, magical illusions fading, as she was before.

Along with Yasei's dead body, there are completely mutilated yuan-ti bits everywhere. Ras Nsi is nowhere to be found, and an eerie silence hangs over the immediate area.
Musharib emerges from a nook nearby, pale as an albino dwarf can get, and a shocked look on his face as if he witnessed a horrific event. The chwinga on his shoulder walks over to Yasei, and it bows its head in sadness - a connection lost, but soon it raises it's head and returns to Musharib - somehow knowing that Yasei is in a better place now.
"What in the Hells happened..." Musharib whispers. "I thought you were all...dead...? Ach...Yasei...."
He looks over at Bree2. "Who...are you...? The light in yer eyes.."
OCC:My sister is a teifling now, I'm crying this is so perfect. Goodbye Merlin I'll miss you and the little samurai.
Changing Mal's earlier action.
He stumbles to his feet and begins looking for his sister. When he sees everyone but her, he begins calling out for her, growing more frantic and running back and forth between the others. In his worry he doesn't see Yasei pull out the sword and can't stop her from taking her own life.He stands still, in shock, before he removes the makeshift cloak from around his shoulder and uses it to cover Yasei's limp body, making sure to tuck in the sides.
"Oh princess, you didn't have to do that." He sighs sadly. He stands back up and looks around again only this time noticing the other teifling.
"I'm... I..." and her eyes flash again, and she stands, again, tall and proud, as she speaks her voice crackles, the ground shakes a little. "El sou so Brikka si worlds. Scursh si Aabalon! Destini pet ca cahaya op! Chantine si sa hwith hwith beatte, el sou fleem ou el sou can, el sou set ou el sou senn..." and suddenly the light dies in her eyes, and she crumples back to sitting.
"I am... lost." She looks up at Mal, eyes filled with tears. "I think... I think I'm Bree."
Clayton shakes his head, taking in everything that just happened. He bows his hat toward Yasei’s body, “I’m sorry, miss. Hope you find peace.” He turns to Breefling, “Oh really? If you’re Bree, what’s my name?”

Shariel lays splayed on the ground, hand over her head, where she fell. The feeling of death was...enrapturing. As enthralling as a combative death proved, ressurection was an even more glorious feeling. Basking in the wonder of it all, Shariel turned her head at the commotion of her comrades in time to see Yasei's death. She felt a pang of muted sorrow at the scene as her mind was still in a euphoric haze.
When she saw blood flow from her comrade, clarity returned and Shariel blinked across the field in an instant. It was too late and the blow was too final. In solemn memory, Shariel drew the wakizashi from the body's hands, wiped the blade clean, and secured the scabbard at her hip, "There is no Life without Death's embrace, no Death without a Life. Pass now from Light to Shadow, and know you have served well."

It is possible that Acererak is a bit stronger this day because of Yasei's death. But that remains to be seen, for none of you would know at this moment in time.
The Oracle has saved you all. One of you even lived a hundred lifetimes. It is now time to provide Ras Nsi the vengeance and retribution he deserves. And then, as you face Acererak, your very souls will be at stake - and the world.
You reluctantly leave the immediate area - and the harrowing thoughts and memories it gave you. It's not everyday you get a second chance, and you have the feeling you won't be as lucky again.
Somehow, you know where Ras Nsi could be hiding, and steel yourself for the journey ahead.
