OOC: "It's not that bad! Well, I'm not saying I'd like to build a summer home here, but the trees are actually quite lovely." -- Westley
Yasei: "I suggest we make haste towards Hrakhamar, skipping the towns on the way, and follow the path laid out for us by Musharib via boat."
OOC: They'll probably be enough encounters to wear us down along the river....no need to get killed in a town (unless they have some sweet swag to kit up with!).
"Speak to the wise guardian of Orolunga, east of Mbala. She can direct you to that which you seek!"
"A ruined city lies up the River Tath, past Kahakla Gorge. Supposedly, no one's explored past the gorge, but that's not true. It's just that the few who made it out alive mostly keep quiet about what they found there. I have it on good authority that the ruins are guarded by a naga who is both wise and generous."
"One must purchase a charter of exploration at Fort Beluarian before undertaking any jungle expedition. The Flaming Fist punishes explorers who don't have the required paperwork!"
"It's okay, Tundro, sometimes people call people by other names, and they don't mean anything by it." She covers Mal with a light blanket, then curls up next to him.
In the morning, she supervises the loading of their pack (and everyone else's stuff) onto Bumble, with assistance from Musharib, then she settles on his back just behind the frill. She has dressed more practically today (no reason to get your cape caught in a jet engine, amiright?) but still colorfully, with study boots, a practical hat, and a small daypack with her essential supplies. And her daggers. And her quarter (eighth?) staff.
She does some whooping and hollering as they get Bumble settled on the boat, but then climbs down to find Mal and hang with him on board.

"So, Musharib," she approaches the dwarf as the boat gets going. "Up the river, to Camp Vengeance, across past Mbala to the River Tath, then to Hrakhamar? Do we need a charter of exploration or something to travel the jungle? Have you been to Mbala? We were told to speak to someone at Orolunga. Is it on the way? Why are you white? I made my hair red on purpose, it didn't come this way."
"No charter of exploration is needed out in the wild. You are friends of Port Nyanzaru. Fort Beluarian is run by the Flaming Fist. They are a vicious mercenary company that is headquartered in Baldur's Gate. If you visit the Fort, they won't let you leave or explore Chult unless you have one of their permits. They scour the land and steal it's treasures. They hire people to work for them, hence why you need a permit. It's best if we avoid that area. Hopefully, we will not run into one of their patrols." Musharib explains.
"Look." He points to the sun. "It is barely morning and the sun is up, and hot. Let us sail, and begin our journey. I will guide us to Hrakhamar."
As he sails the boat, he turns to Bree. "You ask many questions, little one." He chuckles. "I am an albino dwarf, and no. I have never been to Mbala. My ancestors have lived in caves and mountains for millenia, hiding from the sun. I have lived in Hrakhamar all of my life, and my ancestors before me. When we arrive in Hrakhamar, my clanmates will tell you about Orolunga. If I remember correctly, a wise sage lives there and may be able to help us on your quest. You will find we know much about the jungle." He winks.
The jungle foliage thickens greatly as the last evidence of civilization fades away heading south on the Soshenstar. You are truly now entering the primal jungle.

DAY 3
There is definitely life in this jungle. We hear it during the day, and at night. Luckily, we have not had any encounters so far. Could the Gods be smiling upon us? It's hot. Muggy. The raincatchers, thankfully, work. No one is thirsty.
It's now the fourth day down the River Soshenstar. Last night, we thought we heard gurgling and moaning coming from the river banks, from the jungle. It was probably our imagination. Musharib thought he heard a dinosaur?

DAY 5
Is that..? We can see...? From the river banks, up on a clearing through the jungle...the remains of a....large fort? It seems ransacked. Pillaged? Musharib is wary. We believe it is Camp Righteous. Or what's left of it. It rained all day today. All of our clothes are soggy.
Encounter: 6
Thankfully, nothing attacked us today. We just heard from the jungle all day. Many sounds. Nothing moving.
Musharib had both eyes on his food today. Can't say I blame him. We saw another fortified camp on the right on the river, we almost missed it. This one seem populated. Musharib believe it is Camp Vengeance. Again, he was very wary. Did not recommend we stop.
Encounter: 14
Musharib got to eat today. Nothing stole his food.
We spent four days on the most massive lake we've ever seen. Simply immense. We stayed close to the lake shore the whole time. The lake was so large we could not see the other ends. We were treated to many animal noises. Some sounded very hungry. And dangerous. We prayed to our own gods they left us alone. Musharib doesn't sleep much. Maybe he is nervous?
Day 8 Encounter: 11
Day 9 Encounter: 3
Day 10 Encounter: 9
Day 11 Encounter: 15
The Gods smiled on us the whole length of the lake. We now enter the River Tath, and whatever mysteries it holds.
The River Tath was very calm. During the day, we would exchange stories and at night we'd take turns taking watch on the boat. On the 14th day we approached what Musharib called Ataaz Kahakla. It's a massive, truly massive river wall on each side of the river. It was beautiful. It was completely filled, on each side, with every square inch, of coral and sea creature skeletons. I think we saw Musharib take a few corals for good luck.
Day 12 Encounter: 2
Day 13 Encounter: 4
Day 14 Encounter: 6
The days went by without incident. Truly, Musharib believes we are being watched by a force of good we cannot comprehend.

DAY 15 - 17
Musharib is getting more and more excited as the days pass. We are about 3 days from Hrakhamar. He describes to us what firenewts are: humanoid salamanders that are everburning. Cunning and vile. Hrakhamar used to be a great forge. Soon, he hopes, his home will be taken back. He casts an arcane spell that looks like a communication beacon. We hear the voices of other dwarves. We are almost there.
Day 15 Encounter: 5
Day 16 Encounter: 20
Day 17 Encounter: 16
We reached Hrakhamar on the 17th day, as Musharib, more or less, expected. The fact that the journey was uneventful was nothing short of a miracle.
Nearby volcanic eruptions forced the dwarves to abandon Hrakhamar. They always intended to reoccupy and reactivate the forge when it was deemed safe, but that day never came. Firenewts moved in and put the forge to work crafting armor and weapons for themselves. A small group of albino dwarves greet you at the entrance of the mine, and are very happy to see you and Musharib. But, their numbers are too low to challenge the firenewts. Four albino dwarves appear from hiding spots. An attractive (even to human standards), muscular dwarf steps up and introduces herself as Sithi Vinecutter, friend of Musharib. Her handshake nearly breaks your hand. She thanks you all for coming, and tells you that in exchange for the deaths of the firenewts, she will provide information, and some of the adamantine ingots in the cave.
WHAT'S INSIDE: Firenewts, the forge, the adamantine ingots, and the Gauntlets. Musharib wants the firenewts dead, and the Gauntlets.
I have provided a map of Hrakhamar in the DM Notes section. If you enter, you will enter on the right railroad track, the one by area 8.
Also, you are all level 2, now. You have hit a campaign milestone. Good job!
OOC: Let’s get moving! Pirates vs Cowboys vs... I think Mushrabi said Firenewts???

“Agreed. Worst case scenario, we stop when needed, but for the most part we should cut back on delays.”

The boat sets sail down the River Soshenstar south, moving two hexes down the river away from Port Nyanzaru.

The Soshenstar was rough today, Musharib had a challenging steer. We have plenty of food to eat. Who knew dinosaur jerky tasted so good?
Encounter: 20 ENCOUNTER! Rolling: 18
We noticed today Musharib had his daily ration of jerky stolen. In it's place was a small pile of beautiful seashells. How....?
If only we were so lucky. I have the feeling we were today.
