As Syd pulls the book from the shelf and turns to hand it to Cerlinde, a loud click is heard and the set of shelves from which he pulled it recedes into the wall and slides away to the right. You can see a dimly lit staircase descending to a lower level.
There is no effect as Cerlinde reads the unknown language from the recently discovered book.
" Cool!" Ollezall says. Pulling out 3 copper pieces Ollezall continues " Can everyone here see in darkness without torches? I can create light in these coins otherwise. You can carry or throw them to cast bright light, or stow them in your pocket of you want to snuff it; and no heat or smoke like a torch"
Do I see anything down the stairs? I have dark vision. Perception 22
"Awesome!" says Syd. "I love secret hiding places! Let's go!"
Hearing Ollezall, he turns and replies, "I can see a little in the dark, but could you magickify my eyes so that they will shoot out beams of light like keyhole lanterns??"
Cerlinde, realizing the book might have just been moved a lot due to it being the opening for the secret door, tucks it into her pack. “I can see fine in the dark, but am not opposed to using your light coins. Colors are nice to see. I do want to spend some more time here in the library but that can wait. Let’s go!”

" Haha, well yes I could touch your eyeballs... But here is 2 coins, if we need to hide, having beams shooting out of them any time you opened your eyes might be a give away. A hilarious give away; however I think a senior member of the guard still has a standing snuff order out on me if I let someone die..... Cerlinde you can have one too." Ollezall casts light on 3 coins and hands them to Syd and Cerlinde. He casts light on a 4th coin and holds it in an open palm; " Plenty of coins left if anyone else wants one, or has another item they want me to enchant with light. "
Mohdrak exits the study, in search of the kitchen. Standing in the hallway, he can detect a faint smell of food drifting from the east. It appears that the next door in that direction, just past the staircase, is also slightly ajar. As he ponders whether to head that direction or to explore elsewhere, Mohdrak hears a meow as the black cat rubs against his legs as it passes by, heading in the direction of the presumptive kitchen. It heads into the open door that Mohdrak just saw.
Mohdrak stifled a chuckle. 'Well, he would know better than I where the kitchen is.' He followed the cat into the open door.
Mohdrak stifled a chuckle. 'Well, he would know better than I where the kitchen is.' He followed the cat into the open door.
Following the cat, you fully open the door to enter and find that you are most definitely in the kitchen. The aromas of cooking permeate this room. A large iron stove takes up one wall, and the rest of the room is filled with large tables and racks lined with hanging pots, pans, and cooking utensils. Everything is sparkling clean. As you study your surroundings, you hear a flapping of wings and two small forms land on the nearest table. They bow low before you and ask in squeaky voices, “More honoured guests?! To what do we owe this special surprise? I hope you have more sense than your friend in the gray robe. And how can we be of help to you? Cooking? Cleaning? Mending your clothes, perhaps?”
Cerlinde, Syd, and Ollezall (and maybe Dyumi), glowing coins in hand, stand at the top of the hidden staircase. Between your glowing coins and the dim lamp , you can easily make out a door facing you along with what appears to be an opening to the right at the bottom of the stairs. The staircase is narrow enough that the party (especially Syd) must descend single file. Ollezall notices that on the wall in front of the party at the top of the stairs is a switch, which he can deduce is for opening the hidden door. There does not appear to be anything unusual otherwise.
Cerlinde calls back to Mohdrak in the direction Of the other room —“Mohdrak, we’re heading downstairs.” She then starts going down the stairs, right behind Syd if Syd is ok with that.
Ollezall will bring up the tail if it is just the three, or second to last is Dyumi is in attendance.
(If Dyumi is here) " I never did get from you how you like to fight/where you like to be during a conflict. Firbolg have magic, right? Can you do any healing?
"Young man, When you get to be my age, you learn many a healing spell, as well as other useful ones for defense."
As he rambles on about "the good 'ol days", you notice that Dyumi appears less wrinkled than the last time you saw him.

"Heh heh you must indeed be among the ancients for me to be considered young; I wear 82 well I suppose, an added benefit of celestial heritage..." Ollezall smiles. "I'll be glad to have another defensive combatant beside me. I knew a dwarf recently who could fling a mean fireball, but had trouble taking a hit. I'm glad he didn't die; it would have put me in a very awkward position if he had..."
Holding out the glowing coin in his palm; " do you need this to see?"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Syd obediently heads down the stairs, trying to be alert for traps, tripwires, pits, spikes, arrow slits, spinning blades, or the release of noxious gases. And, you know, clues.

When Ollezall holds up the glowing coin to Dyumi, he has the feeling that he's looking a slightly different version of the druid. Maybe he's feeling invigorated by the adventure? Something of a youthful energy about him that he can't quite put his finger on.
Armed with an exhaustive knowledge of traps and Ollezall's divine assistance, Syd ever so carefully leads the party down the stairs. With all of his caution, Syd finds... nothing. Apparently Fistandia was not particularly interested in safeguarding this staircase. The party reaches the bottom of the staircase and is faced with a closed door directly in front of them, and an open hallway to their right. The hallway is narrow and dimly lit as well, but you can see that it looks to be about twenty feet long, with a door on the right side.

Syd will try the door directly in front of him. If unlocked, he will open it. Unless he sees something horrifically dangerous, he will walk through the open door. He's reckless that way.

Ollezall will follow, perhaps stopping at the door and peering at an angle inside to give half or three quarter cover in case there is a foe. If there is nothing there Ollezall will continue inside. " You really shouldn't walk into rooms willy nilly like that you know, it's great for setting off traps". Ollezall shudders thinking about all the traps set by the kobolds out in the wild.
Having apparently exhausted all of his caution while descending the staircase, Syd barges ahead, opening the door and passing into another small hallway. Fifteen feet ahead, there is yet another door, and there is also a door almost immediately to their right.
(This seems like a good time to post a map of the lower level! If you want to speed things up and just specify which room you'd like to enter, that's fine. I've also added this map to the campaign notes.)

(Wow- those campaign notes are great! You are setting a high standard for DMing)
Cerlinde says- “Let’s keep going straight and check the door at the end! Don’t forget to be careful Syd. There may be some traps about.”
