Smothered by darkness and partially swallowed by an unknown creature, all of Lia’s nightmares (visions? premonitions?) of her own death in the underworld seem to be coming true… Her spells don’t work, she can’t see or breath. She doesn’t even have her voice… her one true weapon… Her friends, seem unable to help her…
Her hands claw at the creature suffocating her, to no avail. She sinks to her knees on the deck of the ship, and there she pleads to her celestial guide for help. Begs for just one more chance…
And then it happens…
Shrouded in magical darkness, unseen by any of her companions, sprouting from her back emerge two glimmering, incorporeal wings. If she had breath, she would scream at the pure burning agony of the transformation…
Struggling to comprehend what’s happening to her own body, she flails these new feathered limbs around before kicking off from the ground in a sudden rush and she heads straight up as fast and hard as she can, hoping to smash whatever’s smothering her head into the cavern roof if she can(?)… ((30ft fly speed)) using her movement.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Unseen by any of the others, though perhaps those nearest her might have felt the gossamer touch of her wings and been heartened against the dark and dire circumstances, Lia leaps from the boat, flying upward, carrying her attacker with her... to thud into the ceiling above, both her and the darkmantle taking 5 bludgeoning damage. (CON: 6) Her attacker has had just about enough of this foolishness, thank you very much, and releases its grip, flapping away deeper into the cavern. Lia has a chance to try to physically attack it (at disadvantage if CON > 10) as it departs, but once it clears far enough from her, she sees the boat below her, or at least what she presumes to be the boat, it looks almost like tar bubbling up, the shifting movement of the darkmantles on and around her friends causing their spheres of inky blackness to shift and move.
Galingal, perhaps due to pulling at it, the one your grappled with doesn't manage to crush you.
Stena feels it bearing down on her head, her hearing going a bit whiney.
FOG feels the pain of his head being squeezed, being even just partially wrapped up like this is bringing back bad memories of thirty minutes ago.
Neth has a short lived reprieve as another one gloms onto his head.
((When Neth had made his opp att earlier, he feels it connect, and hears the creature hit the deck of the boat.))
Lia swipes a dagger at the departing creature, but apparently her dagger is in need of sharpening as it bludgeons the creature with an extra burst of bright light that sends it scooting on its way.
((Lia, give me an Intelligence (Perception) check please?))
Lia experiences a moment of resonance that passes. The best she can liken it to is waiting to go on with your fingers lightly resting against the body of a lute while someone else performs on stage, and the vibrations of their singing or playing ripples through the instrument as if it too wants to join in. Only in this case, she is the lute... but who is the performer?
Before she can get to embroiled in pondering the possibilities or implications, her attention is drawn back to the plight of her friends below.

Galingal jabs his fingers at the leathery skin clutching at his face again. For a moment he remembers the mask the drow had locked him in. With that memory in mind he rips with all the strength he can muster.
Strength: 21
If he manages to get enough space to speak, he will say "aiheuttaa haavoja", causing the tattoo on his face to briefly spark, radiating necrotic life sapping energy out and into the darkmantle.
Stena nearly manages to get free, her fingers breaking the seal enough for her to get a gasp of fresh air, but no more before it seals shut again.
((It is STR, so just shy of what you'd need.))
Galingal has more success, pulling his free enough that he's able to croak out an incantation, and he feels the creature go slack in his grasp, the oily inside growing damp as partially decaying fluids are released on death. He has a momentary hope that their waste excretion orifice is not in there with him as he pulls it free, but is still unable to see.
Lia, above, you can see one of the overlapping bubbles of darkness collapse, you're able to see a sliver of the roof of the cabin, but none of your companions yet.
FOG struggles, but can't get it free.
((Not sure what it rolled, it says 3, but on mouse-over it says you got an 11. Either way not enough though.))
There's the sound of a splash followed by two more splashes, muffled to those of you with creatures on your heads. Lia, you see a sphere of darkness moving away from the boat at water level.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
FOG continues the struggling, futile as it might be. Hopefully the rest of the party gets rid of their own troublemakers soon, because he's probably last on the list of "people to save" overall. One of them probably would see this as a handy excuse to tip him overboard-

(Yeah, I don't know what happened. Rolling properly now I see it should be the same roll I used (1d20da) but it shows weird for me too.)

Neth feels the next latch on to him and almost falls to the ground. He tries to breath and can't.. but where in the past he may have panicked, he keeps his composure. This is fine, he thinks.
Neth stabs up with his dagger at where this creature must be.
9 Damage 8
At the same time he wills the tentacle to attack.
9 Damage 5
If he feels the creature break away from him, Neth will dive with his back to the deck, and hold the dagger up above him, as to impale any creature that comes his way again.
((Okay I think I know what Lia would do, but I’ll need help randomising players, to choose who is effected in the dark… @Spider maybe you can select, or randomise, the players for me based on description below? Thanks))…
Lia is glad to be free, but still slightly thinks she’s in a dream or a nightmare. The darkness, the ‘things’, the wings? It must be a dream… but, if it is, it’s also sickeningly real. Her satchel suddenly feels incredibly heavy, and she’s reminded that she’s carrying around the burdensome item that likes to call itself ‘madness level 1’…
She can’t think of anything worse than diving back into that inky blackness with those nightmare creatures, but that’s exactly what she does…
Her new wings fold in slightly and she soars down into the blackness, back onto the deck of the ship, where she thinks her friends are. She calls out, trying to reassure people stuck in the dark, “Where are you?! I’m free!… You can get out too! You can do it!!…”. ((Bardic inspiration (+1d6) to first randomised player)).
Next her wings fold back and she turns, feeling around for her friends. She ‘helps/assists’ the first person she touches (with their strength check to get free or with an attack to damage the creatures) ((gives the ‘help’ action to second randomised player, giving advantage)).
Lia dives back, managing to find the deck of the boat, and gropes around in the dark, grabbing someone by the shoulders and shouting encouragement before releasing them and groping to find another and feel around until she can grab hold of the creature over their head and start to tug on it.
FOG, you hear the voice of the Light Giver... what did she say her name was? And feel something tugging at your unwelcome rider. (FOG has advantage on next STR check, so flat roll)
Neth confidently stabs at the one covering him, before beckoning his tentacle to lash out just above him too.
((It's showing nonsense to me, but assuming you did your disadvantage rolls, both hit. CON: 2, 12))
