Finn goes over to investigate the hole and see if there are any distinctive tracks left by the larger rat. They seemed to be wet with some substance, and Finn attempts to identify what it was.
OOC: this is the post I assumed they were covered in something else besides faiere fire.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Sometimes a Nat 1 tells a better story than a Nat 20 ever could.
OOC: Yes, one of the rats dipped into something you could not see. :) This was after Finn's turn, before Beorro's in the last round:
Meanwhile, the rat that Lorick and Finn can see on the back barrels skitters off of them, and you all hear the sound of something splashing. As it hits the floor, something splatters down with it that's difficult to make out.
Beorro, you feel quite lucky that the inn is so busy, because if it weren't you're pretty sure that someone would have seen you trying to sneak out. In truth, though, you make it out with no one noticing you. You face a somewhat busy street, active with people finishing the last of their daytime plans as the last vestiges of sunlight disappear out to the west. What do you do with those rats?
Finn, as you go and take a proper look, you can quickly tell that the rat had dipped itself into a barrel of oil in it's haste to escape, leaving a small puddle where it thunked down onto the floor, and small footprints leading to the small hole in the wall. The lid of the oil barrel is askew, leaving it open to the air.
Finn points out the trail of oil to Lorick and Valor. "We may be able to find these tracks outside, as well. It's probably best to tell Christophus about this hole first, though."
Beorro let’s out a sigh of relief, That was easier than expected. Now what to do with you guys.... Gotta find a safe place away from the crowds and this inn.. Where’s an abandoned cheese shop when you need one? Beorro scans his surroundings for a suitable spot to release the rats.
Beorro, it is a bit of a hard thing to find - a place in the city appropriate for animals like these. All you really see around you are homes, a market square, some kind of school building, and various shops. The city is walled, so you consider that you may need to get out of the city to get these rats out into the wild. Though, you do see a storm grate not far up the street...
Hmm not a lot of great options... storm drain it is then. Beorro walks to the storm grate and, as inconspicuously as he can manage, begins unloading the rats and ushering them through the grate.
“Alright boys this is as far as I can take you. If I were you I’d just follow the water. It should take you out of the city. If you stay in the city it’s only a matter of time before someone else tries to exterminate you. Good luck and take care,” said Beorro a little doubtful as to whether the rats were smart enough to comprehend his instructions.
Valor leaves the basement and goes up stairs to fetch Christophus. She knows she needs to tell him about the freaky rat king and the hole! Hoping to find tools to repair the hole she also looks for them. Investigation 13
Beorro, the rats seem groggy, but as the tumble from your bag they shake their heads in wakefulness, and frightfully slip into the storm drain without another look back. Make a Perception check.
Valor, you take a quick look around before leaving the basement, and spot a box of tools in the collection of things under the stairs.
Upstairs, Finn and Valor, Christophus remains busy, the room elbow-to-elbow with adventuring types enjoying several rounds of drink. Now, however, there's a bard of some ilk standing atop a table playing a fairly good lute for a drunk man -- and the red-headed barmaid who came to your room tugging, frustrated, on his pantleg to get him off the table.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"Valor, you go ahead and talk with Christophus, it looks like my services are required over there," Finn says wearily, indicating towards the man atop the table. Finn pushes his way through the crowd. "Good sir, you are quite talented with that lute. Might you join me down here? We can put on a real show for this fine crowd. Miss," addressing the barmaid from before, "would you fetch us a pair of stools to settle ourselves in view of the whole bar? That is, assuming this lively entertainer would honor me with his assistance." Finn offers out a hand to help him get down from the table.
Persuasion check to get the man down and to join in a duet performance: 21
Beiro you notice a stout figure in a dark cloak exit the alley between the Mirror Moon and the building next to it.
Finn the man is a blonde human man with deep dimples and bright blue eyes. As you address him, your general presence is enough to break through the cheers and jeers of the crowd and bring his attention to you. "Ah!" He slurs somewhat, obviously well into his evening, "A bellow fard!"
He takes your hand and steps down from the table, having to take an additional few steps once hitting the floor to maintain his balance, "A performance it is then! And barmaid-- hic-- while you're at it, a drink for me and my new friend!"
The barmaid looks at you Finn, nodding at your request, and pushes through the crowd to get back to the bar. She returns two moments later with two stools, and followed by a barboy who sets two stools down for you.
" 'Oo 'ere wants to see a good show?" The man cries out, raising his arms and receiving a cheer from the crowd in return, "A competition of sorts, if you'd be up to the task, my friend?" He points at you, and sips his drink, the crowd roaring at his offer.
Finn pats the man on the back. "A friendly competition would be divine," he respond with a wink. Finn calls out, "Everyone, may I have your attention! My name is Finn Peacegrove, musician by trade. For your entertainment, my new friend and I will be putting on a little competition. It will be up to you to let us know who the better performer is!" Grandstanding a bit, he makes sure to draw attention towards himself and away from Christophus and Valor. "Now, I'll let this energetic man introduce himself, and then we'll begin. Oh, and don't forget to tip your barstaff!" he adds with a chuckle.
"Finn Peacegrove!" He recites, performing a small flourish on his lute, the neck of it pointed towards you as he does a swift circle of his stool, "Ladies and gentlemen the fool who stands before you, 'e is. For he challenges one 'oo has performed for the likes of the Gods themselves, earning for himself this most beautiful instrument--" He plays another set of chords, brandishing his instrument for all to see. "This fool does challenge the grande, and ever-blessed Dorian Fairweather! I advise you all... Make your bet true."
Finn, make a flat Charisma check to determine where the bets fall.
Beorro
Make a Stealth check.
Finn
Make an Investigation check.
Valor will aid Finn in his investigation to give him advantage.
"Whatever this is I don't think any of us should touch it," Valor gestures at the purple goo on the floor.

Finn adjusts a barrel to temporarily cover the hole, then heads upstairs after Valor.

Lorick, left alone in the basement, pulls out his book and begins reading. I'm sure they'll come back down here eventually.
