After Ankita had done the best on actually making the bars move a bit, she looks at Olaerys with a bit of a perturbed huff when he says Shrek has the best chance on breaking through.
Shrek bows to the adoring (!) crowd gathered around, watching him break open the gate. Pulling on the now-loose chain, he yanks it off and opens the gate, whilst winking to Ankita (he secretly knows that Ankita did all the hard work...he just opened the pickle jar after the lid had already been loosened, as it were).
Peering down the well worn steps, he pauses and strains to hear if any noises are emanating from down below:
Randall walks back to the group and holds up his spearpoint, covered in the strange glowing fungus. "Hey,"he asks. "The cavern or mine back that way is covered in this stuff? Is it anything dangerous?"

The passage leads to a subterranean chasm spanned by a zigzagging, ten-foot-wide stone bridge without railings. The bridge links tunnels leading north (where glimmer is coming from) and south. The chasm floor is fifty feet below the bridge and consists of a jumbled mass of boulders. To the west, the chasm narrows and continues for some distance. ‘The way ahead may be guarded by more of those gargoyles we saw earlier. There’s also a chasm under a bridge, so that may be trapped, or at least offers a choke point if the gargoyles animate again…’
Melchor sighs, and then continues ‘In short, be careful and expect trouble when we reach the bridge…’
Olaerys nods and says "That appears to be the way forward. I wonder what else is on this level though, but the stone statues sound interesting. Are there any other doors or options here? If not, down we go..."

A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
‘We go down for now. On this level we risk angering the Lich, on the level above guards are already being posted…’ says Melchor ‘We just need to be prepared for traps and more animated statues…’
Ankita is happy someone has made a decision on where to go. With all the options and all the foes and the fact they were dealing with a lich, she was feeling very overwhelmed. Nodding to Melchor, she follows Shrek down the stairs, keeping her eyes peeled for anything else that might jump out of the shadows.
The stairs are old, ancient even. Shrek can tell this is fine, expert craftsmanship despite being weathered.
You approach the bridge without incident, and knowing to look for them, you can see the gargoyles in the chasm. Several skeletons lie broken or half-buried on the chasm floor. Most are dwarves and orcs in badly rusted armor. You also make out a stone statue of a running dwarf on the other side of the bridge.
As the group collects at the base of the stairs, Shrek points out the gargoyles guarding the bridge. "Bird statues will attack us as soon as we try to cross. Looks like birds shove raider like us over bridge to death below. Not good. Friends should only attack from far, not close. Any friend have way to distract birdies so we run across to safety, like" and he points to the running dwarf statue on the other side "little dwarf over yonder?"
Randall looks back longingly toward the southern mine tunnel with the already-known-to-be-safe lichen and no other obvious threats... and then sighs and follows his allies down the deadly staircase of death.

With Melchor's and Olaerys' help, Shrek attempts to bend the bars/chain open a second time...
Athletics: 17
(NOTE: Shrek still has one level of exhaustion, so his skill rolls are normally at disadvantge...however, the Help removes that disadvantage)

Randall is able to collect some of the fungus fairly easily. It is slightly glowing, emitting a faint light.
Shrek leans into the chain and it breaks, leaving the lock useless.

Melchor takes a careful look at the fungus, without touching it, wracking his brain to see if it is recognisable…
Nature: 10
It just seems like relatively normal underground lichen.
Listening carefully, Shrek is unable to hear anything that gives alarm. The steps seem to descend about 250 feet.
With a gesture Melchor sends Glimmer gliding down the stone stairs, eyes and ears alert to any dangers…
(Glimmer Perception: 23)
Glimmer glides down and sees a passage open up.

Shrek points into the darkness down the stairs, turns to the rest of the team, and grunts "Want Shrek go down dere?"

(There is a tunnel south, then east, and an unexplored door in the crypt room. Also, some unexplored areas upstairs)
