Randall doesn’t like their positioning here. Even if they get the drop on whoever is up there, the are jumbled up on a staircase with the opponent above them. It’s bad footing.
For now he waits to see how the unseen target responds. If they seem to be taking the bait, Randall will wait with the others hoping to spring a surprise attack and just deal with the adverse footing. If it sounds like the opponent isn’t taking the bait, or may be calling for help, Randall is prepared to rush up the stairs to get on equal footing with the foe.

The door at the top of the staircase smashes open and you see Jolly, but not quite as you remember. He appears to be much more muscular and his face is one of a boar, it's muzzle and tusks red with blood.
He sees you and roars. "You! I will finish what my fools couldnt"

Slightly (okay, who am I kidding...mostly) confused about the new look for Jolly, Shrek none-the-less hurls two well aimed javelins at the boar-ing beast:
Both of Shreks javelins solidly hit Jolly, one in the torso and one in the shoulder. Sadly, neither one penetrates his skin, and they both fall harmlessly to the ground.
Shrek can see a faint red aura around Jolly and knows he should be very wary of this but doesn't really know what it means. He seems to recall a giant rat he tried to befriend once that he had to leave alone when it wanted to fight but hr couldn't hurt it
Olaerys sees this unfold and comprehends Melchior’s words. He has heard tales of such creatures, but has never seen one himself. He looks disheartened to see Shrek’s javelins fall to the ground, apparently ineffective. “My Lord Helm, guide my hand and lead us out of danger!” He seems very intent to guide them out of this alive, and if javelins and other usual weapons won’t do the trick, he would like to try magic instead.
Olaerys holds up his shield and presents an attitude and positioning of defense against the creature. For his action, he casts hold person on the wereboar, attempting to paralyze it. DC 15 wisdom save to defeat this effect. “Tie it up if it freezes! Let’s bind it!” If he has any action left, he would pull out some rope to accomplish the task.

A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
If Olaerys' spell appears to work, Randall will do his best to try to bind the creature.
Should the spell fail, Randall instead raises his shield and tries to protect himself and his allies from this dangerous monster.
[Randall's action is to dodge and he will preserve his reaction to use Protection fighting style to impose disadvantage on the first attack against an ally within 5'.]

This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Olaerys spell has no effect whatsoever on Jolly. He laughs, menacingly. "Is that all? You are WEAK."
Melchor, knowing how dangerous things are here, strains to cast a spell, clearly stretching hus current abilities: "Chromo!" and violent looking ball of energy leaps towards Jolly:
Looking again, I need that str save anyways. In the case it fails, Randall is knocked prone and the maul attack lands clean (17 was the lower of 2, and being prone negates the disadvantage)

Olaerys is undeterred, and thinks of a second option to help. He moves around Jolly to where he is behind him and flanking him. He shouts at him in an odd voice that reverberates, and he commands Jolly to drop his maul. (DC 15 wisdom save to resist this effect) If he does drop his maul, Olaerys bends down and picks it up.
As a bonus action, using his mastery of his shield, he uses it to shove Jolly and knock him off balance, forcing him prone.

Olaerys feels a nasty gouge in his abdomen as he launches over. Jolly surpringly, even to him, drops his maul, looking down at it in confusion. He's still doing so when a shield smashes him from behind, knocking him to his knees..
Ankita picks up the maul that Jolly drops before he gets a chance to grab it again and stuffs it in her bag. She then holds her palms up towards Jolly and brings them together, a flash of light streaks towards the wereboar as she casts guiding bolt towards him.
