Yes, it certainly can be for paladins. As a Speaker you’ll be looked upon by the common folk as a religious authority. In many cases your commands will be taken as divine law, to be obeyed without question… whether you’re declaring a day of mourning or sanctioning an execution. Good aligned Speakers bring messages of hope and encouragement, using their words to restore order and punish evil. There are many Speakers who abuse their power for personal gain however, subverting the law to their own ends. Whether you truly speak the words of the gods or simply tell the people what they wish to hear is for you to decide. The most zealous Speakers hear the voice of the gods in the swaying of the trees and whispered upon the breeze. They see it written in the stars and etched upon the seas. Everything can be a portent for deciphering the will of the silent gods.
Why the gods fell silent in Kamaryst is anyone’s guess, and there are many theories. They continue to grant their spells to especially devout individuals, and yet their words can no longer be heard, nor can they take on bodily form. Perhaps the Black Spire is to blame? Even the gods from beyond Kamaryst can’t seem to break through this cone of silence.
Thanks, VaronTheViolent. I select the Red Cloak Devotion! It fits best with my character and where they have come.

Have a wonderful day whether you are a peasant, noble, or the disembodied voice in my head that is constantly reminding me to do an Intelligence check. Anyway, have a good day!
I go by they/them and identify as a toaster. I enjoy Dungeon Mastering for my close friends and niece and I hope whatever I said above was helpful, funny, or insightful in some way, shape, or form.
The Red Cloaks trace their origin to the Duchy of Wesslond, where a particularly cruel duchess, the Lady Vessra, ruled her people with an iron fist. The Duchess had a particular penchant for the color red, a color she deemed only she could wear under threat of death.
One morning, with a famine ravaging the land and the duchess’s lavish cruelties reaching extravagant new heights, the people of Wesslond had had enough. When news of an insurrection reached the duchess she laughed the matter away and thought to quell it with a show of force. When she stepped out onto her balcony, her mouth dropped and her face flushed crimson. There before her was every able bodied man and woman of Wesslond, their faces concealed by hooded robes of deepest red.
It was only when the matter was finished that the true depths of Lady Vessra’s evil were revealed. It seemed that each night she bathed in the blood of young maidens in a vain effort to prolong her youth. To this day the castle of Lady Vessra is an abandoned ruin and the Red Cloak of Rebellion a symbol of those who would end the reign of tyrants.
Freedom reigns in Wesslond now. A high council chosen from among the people make the day to day decisions, a model that many in power fear will be repeated in their own lands if the Red Cloaks are allowed to continue unchecked.
Cool, can't wait until we get to start, I love how you've got a lot of lore and other things, like devotions, planned, I do want to learn more about your world. It is an interesting world.
I'll be putting a few finishing touches on homebrew content today and posting a link to the campaign tonight. We could tentatively have our first session tomorrow. I'll post a suggested time that may work for our players on either coast and we can see how many could take part from there.
You all can call me Varon (my real name), and for simplicity's sake I'll usually refer to each of you by your character's name.
So, Fartok, thank you for uploading your character sheet. I have added the "Devotion, Speaker" feat to your Feats, along with the two first level feats granted to Speakers, "Devout," and "Holy Edict" if you'd like to check those out. The Devout feat should have improved your Wisdom by +1 and your Religion by +1 if all went well (and it appears that it did on my end).
Devout also grants you an additional, once per long rest, use of an ability similar to your Paladin's Lay on Hands ability. It removes the poisoned condition or cures a disease once per day.
Holy Edict will have the greatest bearing on role-play for your character. Think of it more as a reference sheet for the many things your Speaker can get away with doing or order people to do for them (although over use of your authority could raise some red flags).
I'll be going to a barn raising in about 30 minutes. Yes, those are a thing here. I'm not putting in a full 8 hours or anything, so I should be back around 12 EST.
Anyone who would be available for a game session around 2:00 EST, let it be known here, and upload your character to the campaign.
This will be my first time DMing in this format, and my first time DMing 5e (I haven't DM'd since 2e, but I have played 5e). We will work together to feel out this format and decide what works and what doesn't together.
I will be available for a game at 2:00 PM EST - around 5:30 PM EST, but I doubt we will be playing for that long. I've got everything I need for the first session ready (Character Sheet, Notes, Idea for how my character will Roleplay, Etc.)
Also from what I've seen, as long as you've looked at the rulebooks (which seeing as you have played 5e I assume you have) it's shouldn't be extremely different, but I started in 5e so I could be wrong. Also, with this format, I've seen that combat doesn't work well unless you can organize players in 1 session all at once like you have. But if I weren't available, and everyone else were playing, I would be fine with you controlling my character in combat, or anything else with a lot of decisions.
I am also available at 2:00 pm EST. Ready to play.

I go by they/them and identify as a toaster. I enjoy Dungeon Mastering for my close friends and niece and I hope whatever I said above was helpful, funny, or insightful in some way, shape, or form.
Today went much later than I had anticipated, so I’d like to apologize to everyone. It wasn’t a typical Saturday. I hope you all won’t let it dampen your enthusiasm to play and will be ready to reconvene next week.
in the meantime I will begin learning more about 5th edition and Beyonds tool set, and will post some additional Lore about our setting

To quote VaronTheViolent, talking about the devotions: "Each faction is open to any class."

I am ready to play. Got everything ready. Whenever you are ready.
