The guide glances nervously between you, Sindri and Lefaris.
"Erm... well yes of course." and with that they step forward and knock sharply on the door.
There is silence for a few moments and then you hear sounds from within. Loud clanks and clangs, followed by angry grumbling, muffled by the heavy oak doors. There is a heavy thud as the occupant unbars the doors from the inside and then they swing open to reveal the cleric. A crotchety looking villager in a gold trimmed purple robe. They glare at your guide and then at you all.
"Well what is it? What do you want?" the cleric asks in a clipped tone.
"Th.. these are the champions who saved us from the zombies last night." explains the Guide.
"Saved us did they? hmmf.." the cleric glares at you all again, "Well then what in the name of the bald ones backside do you all want with me?"
The Guide is clearly intimidated by this moody cleric and gives you all an embarrassed look.
"Friend huh?" the cleric points at your guide, "You have not been to chapel in months, not one emerald in the offering box!"
The Guide hangs their head in shame. "Sorry."
The cleric softens... slightly at the apology and at your words Chonk. "Yes well.. you all better come inside."
The cleric leads you through a small entrance hall and into a large room of worship. You note two things of interest in here. Firstly, the injured villager from last night is lying on a cot near a small fireplace sleeping. They look pale and clammy. They groan softly and shift in their blankets. You also notice the large statue at the front of the chapel that closely resembles Notch. The beard and bald head are quite distinctive. The granite statue stands half again as tall as you all and is reaching up toward the ceiling with a golden apple in its cupped hands. The apple gleams warmly in the lamplight.
The cleric leads you through a door to a small office area where they take a seat behind a large oak desk.
"I apologise for my abrupt welcome." the cleric growls after a moment of silence, "I am not a morning person."
They offer a weak smile and shuffle some papers on the table, "I do indeed have a job for you if you are capable. The undead you fought last night are a growing problem. There seem to be more of them with each passing evening. I have reason to believe they are coming from the old mine north west of town." They push forward a map showing the location.
"There was a cave-in some years ago and many villagers were lost. If dark magics have taken hold within the mine it would be an excellent source for... bodies. I would like you to investigate the mine and clear out any undead you find. I will pay 100 emeralds for this and a further 100 emeralds for any evidence of what has caused this undead scourge."
The half-orc notices the likeness to Notch, and golden fruit he holds. But questions can come later...
"Hmm," Guroz folds his arms, looks to his comrades then back at this cleric. Speaking aloud his thoughts, "firstly, I'm sorry to hear the loss of so many people. And I think we need to get back at supplying this place with resources; access to things mean happy folk. And we can look into arming ourselves better to help more; not that these wooden things haven't done a bad job, really." He taps the weapons on his waist.
"That does sound like an issue that needs to be resolved." Lefaris says after listening to the cleric tell them about the mine and undead. "We are also going to look into a farm that does not seem to be sending in the resources the town needs so badly." She looks around at her companions and then back to the cleric. "We were hoping you might have some information on where we might aquire better gear and supplies for this work." She taps the wooden blade at her side. "This is less than useless to me as it is too bulky and too heavy for me to use well. Something smaller, and lighter, would be of better use to me." She glances to their guide. "I did see the smith as we walked here, do they have weapons there for sale?"
The cleric appears to appreciate your straightforward approach Guroz and Lefaris and nods in agreement.
"Indeed, solving the supply issue should take priority, but the offer of work remains when you return. As to your need for equipment, the smithy is adequate and may be able to provide a few essentials and the leather worker can fashion some light armour that may benefit a few of you. I also may be of assistance here. One moment."
The cleric stands and makes their way into an adjoining room and you hear soft mumbling and the sound of boxes and sacks being moved around. At last they re-emerge with a small chest and a couple of vials containing a shimmering blue liquid.
"The potions of healing I can sell you for 50 emeralds each, and the contents of the box you can take in exchange for a modest donation to the chapel. They are a few adventuring items we have picked up and stored over the years and are of little use to me."
Chonk scratches his chin as he looks at the contents of the box. Those wood carvers tools could come in handy. They appear similar to the set he left behind at the pool to bathe.
"Well team, I'm willing to go all in for the lot." Without revealing to the cleric how much that added up to. "I don't require much, but if what I have can benefit you all, then know, what I have is yours."
"Well, I can donate what I have to the cause, including my emerald from the egg." she hands what she has over to Chonk and lets them figure things out. Other than the mysterious cloak and of course the healing potions, the rest do not interest her. She then pipes up as the rest figure out what to donate, "Why do you have a statue of Notch in the main room?"
Lefaris glances to the others with a frown. "I do not believe a modest donation means for us to spend all the money we have here and now." She points out, glancing to the cleric. "We have to have some funds to pay for food and lodging, as I doubt if our guide here is going to talk the barkeep at the inn into just alowing us to eat and stay for free forever. Plus we may have other needs down the road." She considers and glances to the others. "We should all keep 5 emeralds from what the barkeep gave us. Give 20 emeralds to the cleric here, which will end up being 80 emeralds, fifty for the healing potions and 30 for the chest and its content." She looks to the cleric. "Will that suit?"
Chonk nods at Lefaris. He did intentionally NOT state how much was available. He also very much appreciates that there are those in the party that understand the value of money more than he, and are much more skilled in how to handle it.
The clerics eyebrows raise. "The potions are 50 emeralds each my dear, but otherwise the offer is sufficient. You may take one potion and the contents of the box for 80 emeralds. It is a meagre donation but I trust you will support this modest chapel further once you are established."
Sindri, your question about Notch causes a chuckle, "This is a chapel devoted to the service of the great Notch. The creator of all!"
"They.. they say they have met him." the Guide explains.
"Truly? You have met the great Notch. A blessing indeed. How did you come to meet him?"
OOC: If you accept the offer please deduct 20 Gold/Emeralds each from your character sheets and divvy up the items between you. Nice Persuasion rolls, keep this up and you'll bankrupt the village lol
Sindri doesn't pay attention to what is going on with the items and emeralds, though she will gladly take back her 21 emeralds if that is the direction it goes. She is enjoying playing with Little Pwok (kinda like letting the grown-ups talk) and as she hears the cleric ask about Notch, she replies, "Yep, we met him. He was very polite and the first person we met when we all arrived." she looks to the others to make sure she isn't saying too much. "What do you mean he created all?"
Chonk will proffer his 20 emeralds to the kitty and, barring objection, will step forward to secure the Woodcarver’s Tools in his backpack. He will let the others haggle over who carries what else. Mentally noting that we may need to discuss who will be the designated medic to carry the Potion of Healing later.
“Do you have any information on these items, like what special properties they may have?” Chonk will ask the cleric as he backs away from the box.
"That is marvellous." the cleric says as you describe your meeting with Notch. When you ask about him creating all Sindri, they open a book that is sitting on the table and turn it around for you to read.
"In the beginning Notch created the world... Notch said let there be light and there was light. Notch saw that the light was good and he named it Day...." and so on and so on. It would appear that according to this book you were summoned here by a god. The looks of awe you were getting from the locals suddenly seem to make a little more sense. You wandered into town and casually told everyone you had just met their god!?
As you read Sindri the Cleric shares what they know of the items in the box.
"The crossbow we took from a Pillager who tried to attack the village last year. It is mundane. The dagger, tools and cape were found on the remains of an outlander like yourselves who was unfortunate enough to meet a creeper in the southern meadows. The cape I believe to be enchanted as it escaped the blast unscathed. Though I am no expert."
You do see now what look like scorch marks on the hilt of the dagger and the leather covering of the wood carvers tools, while the cloak looks to be as good as new.
Sindri and Lefaris either of you can make an arcane roll to identify this item on a DC 20. Failing that it will take a short rest to get your head around it.
“Notch warned us against a ‘creeper’ but failed to give us a description. Can you tell us what one looks like so we will recognize it? Also, does it cast some sort of blasting spell?” Chonk seeks clarity from the Cleric.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.

Sindri checks out the book and the dawning of understanding slowly comes over her. She turns to her friends, "I wonder who Notch was talking to when he said he had to go?" she takes a hold of cloak and looks it over. As she does she asks, "Yes, creepers. More information would be good." she turns to the cleric, "Also, are there others that we should watch out for? Other than creepers and zombies?"
She continues to look through the book, looking for any other answers that might help them out.
The Cleric flips some of the pages in their holy book until it displays an image of a strange green creature with four legs and an odd frowning face. It reads;
"Beware the Creeper! It is a volatile enemy and silent in its approach. It does not bite, it does not claw. No dear traveller the Creeper explodes! Giving itself entirely to your demise."
The Cleric explains, "It is thought that they are a mutation of some sort. They multiply by spreading their spores and are attracted to living creatures. If you stand too close for too long they literally explode in an attempt to seed their spores into the victims flesh. You need to be quick to fight them. Either that or take them out from a distance. Your best bet is to run."
"I can make use of the crossbow, the dagger, or the cape." Lefaris says, looking to the other two who have not claimed an item from the trunk yet. "What items works best for you two?"
Hearing about the creeper Lefaris winces. "Let us hope we don't come across one of those then." She says.
