Galben notices Goblin 1 & 3 with their hands on the hilts of what are most certainly scimitars. Though Goblin 2 & 4 are further from your line of sight, you can just make out the curve of shortbows and arrows being nocked.
Bearkiller moves on Goblin 3, sword in hand, a weapon used many times before. But he underestimated the Goblins quickness, as it dodged the blade and left Bearkiller open to a counterattack. (1d20+2, rolled a 3)
Jake closes his eyes, channeling the divine light of Ilmater, his blessing successfully radiating out to Galben, Regula, and Bearkiller, providing them each with a d4 to be added to any attack roll or saving throw while Jake maintains concentration.
Goblin 2 moves 30 feet away from the closest party member, hugging the edge of the road. It draws its shortbow and looses an arrow at Regula, taking a perfect path and striking directly in the chest between Regula's chainmail (nat 20, 8 points of piercing damage). Regula stumbles back several steps, struggling to maintain an upright posture as blood begins to quickly pour from the wound.
Goblin 3 draws his scimitar back and brings it crashing toward Bearkiller, but causes merely a glancing blow as the scimitar bounces off Bearkiller's armor (6 to hit, attack fails).
Goblin 4 also moves away from the party and into the road, takes clear aim toward Galben, letting the arrow sail gracefully through the air only to fall several feet short of its intended target (6 to hit, attack fails).
I yell to the group that goblins 2 and 4 have short bows and goblin 3 has a scimitar. I then proceed to nock an arrow and draw back with my sight on goblin 2. I release the arrow and the shot is deadly (rolled a 10+5+4(blessed)=19) 9 piercing damage. Striking him right in the chest. Blood flowing out everywhere, It falls to the ground screaming and then lies motionless.
The line was true that time OldMan, lets see what you can do!
OldMan takes aim at Goblin 4, muttering the incantation for Fire Bolt; however, in the haste of battle, he utters the spell a bit too fast and mere sparks shoot from his fingers causing some of the goblin's hair to singe slightly but otherwise leaving it unharmed (13 to hit; attack fails).
Seeing the ineffectiveness of the fire bolt causes me to swell with anger and I rush toward Goblin 4, my sword drawn back ready to cut down these horrid creatures once and for all. I rush immediately toward the front of the goblin, but in my weakened state, the best I can muster is a large slashing arch which the goblin sees coming a mile away - it easily leans to the side so as to avoid being struck. My sword hits the ground, causing the gravel of the road to crunch under the impact of my swing. (12 to hit + 2 from blessing; attack fails).
Jake strides confidently towards the fallen horses, stopping just short of the nearest. Drawing on the divine presence of Ilmater, I motion my hands and ignite a flame on the goblin in the distance. (cast sacred flame on goblin 4) (apparently I don't know how to use die rolls in dndbeyond, rolled 5 times, but the first was 8 damage if goblin fails his save)
Bearkiller stands toe to toe with Goblin 3 as he counters yet another blow by the tiny creature. At last he sees his opening - the goblins right trunk is left open with each strike. Bearkiller waits for his moment. As the goblin raises his scimitar Bearkiller swings his his sword into the creatures torso. The goblins pain is too great to overcome. Bearkiller readjusts, and pierces the goblin right in the heart. He falls down without a sound.
As Goblin 4 sees the last of his horde fall, he immediately disengages from battle and attempts to flee to the north side of the road, heading toward the forest edge to the northwest. At that same moment, an unknown human figure emerges from the Triboar Trail, approaching the battle scene from the east with haste.
It is Galben's turn, with the unknown human on deck, followed then by our previously established initiative order as needed.
I get the goblin in my sight and look the deliver a decisive blow. I nock an arrow and draw. When I let go the arrow flies towards the goblin (rolled 5,miss) and hits a tree 10 ft behind it.
You got lucky this time creature. The next time will be different if I get another chance!
(Galben looks to the east to see the actions of the unknown human, preparing to counter his measures if needed.)
OldMan is also curious about the human and therefore is keeping a side eye in his direction. More importantly OldMan knows the Goblin must not escape. He may find and gather a bigger pack to come hunt our small band of tired and wounded adventures. Once again raising his hands to cast firebolt OldMan begins chanting the words of the spell. hit (10 +6) with 7 damage just enough.
The bolt of fire shoots out of OldMan's hand with force enough that Galben's hair moves as the bolt flies up the ridge striking the Goblin in the lower back where his armor isn't covering. The bolt burns right through his greasy flesh exposing his kidneys and entrails. He screams as the contents of his torso spill out onto the ground. He looks back briefly as if to say you gutless wizard but crumples to the ground before any words can escape.
OldMan instead utters the phrase. "you gutless turd" Galben being the only one near enough to hear, chuckles at the pun.
As the final goblin crumples to the ground, the party looks around in anticipation, waiting what feels like an eternity, straining against the sounds of the forest to hear if any other goblins are coming. After several minutes, the party begins relaxing its stance from their combat footing, and proceeds to regather near the downed horses to discuss next steps having survived and cleared their first battle. The newcomer tentatively walks toward the gathering party, sensing their apprehension at his emergence from the east.
Regula sheaths his sword, limping slightly as he walks back toward the scene of the amubsh. Finding a downed log along the side of the road, he sits to wait for the party to regather.
Galben collects the weapons from the beaten goblins (2 shortbows, 2 quivers, 32 arrows and 2 scimitar) and throws them in the back of the wagon. Then checks on the wagon and horses, "Everything looks good". "Bearkiller will you help me move these horses off of the trail?"(while waiting for a response he starts taking the saddles off the dead horses)
There are a few options the party can take at this moment: (1) you could conduct a search of the area by rolling an investigation check, (2) you can greet and interact with the newcomer, (3) you could take a short rest for an hour to regain some health (only applies to Regula by the looks of it), or (4) you can prepare the wagons for continuing your trip to Phandelver. Feel free to share what your character is doing and decide next steps as a party.
Galben finished taking the saddles off the horses and puts them in the wagon along with the other arrows he had taken from them before the combat (4). While in the back of the wagon he looks to see what the group is hauling and he sees...
As Galben searches the wagon, he notices that it is packed full of an assortment of mining supplies and food. This includes a dozen sacks of flour, several casks of salted pork, two kegs of strong ale, shovels, picks, and crowbars (about a dozen each), and five lanterns with a small barrel of oil (about fifty flasks in volume). He estimates that the total value of the cargo is 100 gp.
I look to see if I can tell what weapons these goblins have. (Perception roll d20 +4) rolled a 15+4=19.

OldMan assumes there isn't any spellbooks in the carnage of the battle so he walks over to the newcomer and offers a greeting in common tongue.
"Hello stranger, what is your name, what is your quest, what is your favorite colour?"
