Looking around you, there's not much here that could really indentify where the portal is if you wish to return later, but it does seem that the glow of the portal would be at least semi-visible from the surface
You can't maintain contentration of what Balthar is seeing for too long, but as he circles, you don't see any obvious landmasses that stick out to you. However, quite a ways off in front of the group, the water seems to dip down a bit, and you can make out what appears to be a patch of sea floor that should be underwater but is instead surrounded by 30 foot tall walls of water. Strange...
As Koric points out the patch of sea floor that appears to be dry, Jade starts swimming towards it, though as she does, she asks Liri, "How long does this spell last?"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Koric silently thanks Balthar then sends him back to his pocket dimension rather than force the poor bird to swim. He then starts to swim slowly after Jade. "Looks like the only game in town," he says, pointing at the strange formation. "But we should be wary."
As he approaches the strange rift he examines it closely. No doubt it was magical, but also likely there were still people maintaining that magic. Perhaps even the cultists who used to reside there...perhaps waiting for the missing piece of bone he now carries in his pack.
As Jade starts swimming towards the odd patch of sea floor, Liri kicks down after her to follow. "We have plenty of time, so no need to worry about that. It will last us until this time again tomorrow." She examines the walls of water curiously as they draw closer.
(( Liri has wall of water in her known spell list, but not prepared currently. Do these look similar to what that spell would create, or is it something different? (Or would she even be able to tell?) ))
As the group draws closer the the walls of water, you attempt to peer through them as best as you can into the rift in the water. While you can't make out much, you can see waht appears to be some bones laid across the sea floor...
@Liri
These walls don't look much like the magic you are familiar with. To you, it looks far more like the water has been repulsed from this area through the use of some persistant magic and the walls are a product of that
The bones on the ground do give Jade a bit of hesitation, but she continues swimming towards it. "Think this is the Mere?" once she gets to the wall, she pauses in the water and uses her Divine Sense once again....
As an action, you can detect good and evil. Until the end of your next turn, you can sense anything affected by the hallow spell or know the location of any celestial, fiend, undead within 60 ft. that is not behind total cover. You can use this feature 4 times per long rest.
Looking at what you can see through the viel of the walls of water, you begin to assemble the bones in your head, and as you move them around mentally, attempting to put together a picture of what they might be, the image of a dragon skeleton emerges...
@Jade
Activating your divine sense, you are immediately nearly physically knocked back by all the energy you are picking up. It's not neccessarily evil, but it certainly reeks of death, and you are forced to deactivate it in order to avoid the sheer amount of input overloading you and knocking you unconscious
@Koric
You attempt to summon Balthar into the space, but the moment he forms, a spike of skeletal material pierces through him, and he is is dispelled into a cloud of magical smoke. You begin to feel the bone stored in your back tug towards the wall of water...
((@DM: Did the bones actually move/attack, or was this just a really unlucky location to summon him? Or is the space so jam-packed with boned, they are impossible to avoid? ))
As the bone skewers poor Balthar, Koric screams and instinctively swims backwards a few feet. "Not good! Not good at all."
Her turns to his companions, "Did you see that?" he points in the direction of Balthar's demise, his voice has a tinge of panic audible through the odd bubbling noises. "What's worse...the bone in my pack wants to go...home."
"I had hoped to find allies. Enemy of my enemy and all, but that's such an unreliable premise, you know. And, well, an undead dragon might breath first and ask questions later.."
"Something inside is repelling that water out, rather than the walls being magically formed of water." Liri swims a little closer to the edge of the clearing to get a closer look, being careful not to breach the barrier. "I didn't see clearly. Did the bones move by themselves? Koric, are you able to tell what manner of magic affects this place?" She watches the bones warily for any signs of movement.
(( @DM: Gonna go out on a limb here and guess Koric can't cast any ritual spells while in water, correct? ))
Koric does a small double-take, and paddles slightly further away in mild panic. "It flew at him! The bone flew at him!"
After a moment he looks around at the others then allows himself to drift back to where he was. Despite his misgivings, he examines the scene from a distance, trying to understand what is going on.
Arcana: 17 Investigation: 19 (passive 23)
(( Oh Dear. I made the mistake of editing my post; I *think* the arcana was 15, and I'm sure that the investigation was less than the passive. ))
Elandra places her hand on Koric's shoulder as the tread water, her face saddened at the temporary demise of Balthar. "Perhaps if we get to teh surface we can orient ourselves and then see if there might be other ways into that space."
@Koric (I believe Arcana was 15 and Investigation was 14, so I'm going to run with those values)
You look over the scene, trying to get a better sense for what is going on, but there's not much you can see physically. However, trying to get a feel for the magic of the place, you can feel it slowly grow stronger as the bone in your pack is pulled towards it
Koric nods to Elandra, swimming up to the surface and away from the wall. "Should I..." he stares back at the massive wall and skeleton, "...should I let it have the bone?"
He asks Elandra for help and uses mage hand to try to keep his pack afloat while getting ready to retrieve the bone, then looks around for conformation from the others. "I don't want this damned thing anywhere near me."
To keep things moving since the others have not given you their opinion, I’m going to say you need to make the choice on your own.
As you sit there deliberating, the wingbone you are carrying with you manages to rip its way out of your pack and begins to fly towards the dragon skeleton on the ground. Reacting quickly, you manage to grab it before it flies out of your reach. The pull on it is not strong enough to wrench it out of your grip, and it you could pull it back towards you if you wish. Do you keep the bone or let it go?
Koric is horrified to see the bone take flight on it's own, and only his adrenaline-backed reactions allow him to grab hold of it. Moments later fear takes hold of him and he lets out a small yelp, releasing the bone and allowing it to take flight.
He watches in a mixture of fear and fascination as the bone returns to the rest of the body, all the while praying to Mystra for her protection.

Koric pauses, grimacing. "More bones," he says. As he gets within 30' of open air he re-summons Balthar into the space.

The bone that hit Balthar flew at him at a rapid speed and wasn't originally in the spot you summoned him, but where exactly it originated was unclear

(Sorry, labor day weekend and all)
Jade watches in horror as the bone starts flying towards the rest of the skeleton and attempts to catch it on it's way.
(Not sure what to roll here or if she can even catch it?)
