"...Though Katarina does think that locking his husband in their chambers was still a bit extreme,"the feline says. "Even if real the danger was. Perhaps gnome king will return to his senses now that the beast has been bested, yes?"

Unhappy that the market got rid of individual purchases for one-off subclasses, magic items, and monsters?
Dabbledob flaps her hands at Fibblestib, and he gets the hint. "Follow me!" he says and leads them out of the room and down another hallway to the north.
At the end of the hallway is an ornate door. Fibblestib walks up and raps his hand smartly on the door.
"Go away!" cries a voice from inside. "I know it's you, foul beast. I won't be deceived!"
Fibblestib shakes his head. "It's Fibblestib, your highness. I'm here with a group of adventurers. They slew the shapechanger!"
There's a pause. "Adventurers, you say? How do you know they speak the truth? I won't open the door unless you can prove it's dead!"
"We will describe the monster we slew, your highness" proposes Khessa. "And since you've never spoken to us before, you can tell us if the monster we've killed is the very shapechanger you (rightly) feared - and be sure that we are not cheating you".
"When we first encountered the shapechanger," reports the blonde arcane warrior "it looked like an ordinary barrel. It leapt up, growing kind of tentacles as feet and revealing a monstrous face with sharp fangs and a long tongue and attacked us! We fought it and destroyed it. If the description matches, open the door without fearing, your heighness, and observe the remains of the elusive predator with your own eyes - it won't give you or anyone else any more trouble".
Katarina would like to intervene here and use the Position of Privilege Noble background feature to try and get us an audience with the king/sway things in our favor a bit, if that's alright.
"Highest gnome king, Lady Katarina Spring Blossom of the Mystic Paws I am," Katarina announces, silently praying that the combined efforts of Echo and herself have made her look relatively presentable in spite the exploding barrel. "Daughter of Grand Duke Proud Shadow. On her honor as a member of the Mystic Paws, Katarina swears that the beast has been found and slain, and elf Jasper has the remains as proof that the deed has been done. Please, open the doors that Katarina and her friends may enter and speak with you."
(So... Katarina can either take the Help action here to give Khessa advantage on her Persuasion roll, or Katarina can make the Persuasion roll to get the gnome king to come out. Which would you prefer, @Painted_Beyond?)
Echo turns in surprise when Katarina announces that she is the daughter of... someone who sounds really important. Then she remembers again what they are doing, "that's right! I think the only thing left that's dangerous are your own weapons and contraptions! Which are really cool by the way. Oh, and Factore, I think, but she's being watched by somebody!"
(OOC: @Mister_Whisker I'd say up to you if you prefer Katarina give advantage to someone or try on her own. If we go purely technical, since Echo also choose to speak and she is the most charismatic, it is probably better if you give advantage to her - unless Positionof Privilege gives you good chances to succeed. But if you prefer to do an attempt yourself or give advantage to Khessa, all good all the same)
(OOC: Position of Privilege basically just says 'local nobles will hear you out,' but that probably doesn't count if said local nobles are insane. So I think I'll go with the option that gives us the best chance mechanically and assist Echo).
Katarina is using her little speech to take the Help action and grant Echo advantage on a Persuasion check.
"I...a barrel you say?" comes the voice through the door. There's another long pause and then you hear the sound of the door unlocking. It open slowly to reveal an older male gnome wearing a jagged metal crown and a patchwork cloak. He's carrying a flask of something in his hand. From further in the room you can hear an exasperated voice cry out, "Let them in already for crying out loud!"
Korboz ushers you into a well-appointed bedroom with a canopied bed, mahogany end tables, and a luxurious looking divan. Sitting on a chair is another male gnome, also wearing a jagged metal crown. He squirms around, but apparently he can't get free. His expression is one of long-suffering tolerance but also affection for Korboz. "If they killed the thing, you can let me go now, Korboz!" he exclaims.
Ignoring his husband for the moment, Korboz approaches the party. "Show me the remains," he says, still holding the flask. Fibblestib puts a hand on his forehead but is careful not to let the king see him do it.
"Sure, Korboz!" Khessa invites him, speaking to him with the tranquility (and familiarity) with which she would speak to a younger brother. "Here, look" she leads him to Jasper, who is carrying the remains of the monster on his cloak. "It's not too easy to recognize, I admit it... but when it received the fatal blow, it practically exploded! Anyway, you see, those remains of splinters... mixed with those pieces of organic matter... oh, and look at that blood-red piece! If you look carefully, it must have been part of its tongue..."
Katarina extends a claw (to avoid getting more of the mess in her fur) and helps Khessa to sift through the remains of the 'evil barrel' to help put the king's mind at ease that the creature is indeed dead.
"If more proof Your Majesty needs, more remains can be found in the room across the bridge... Katarina hopes that too much of a mess was not made when dispatching the beast we were."

“Your Highness. You can see that we killed your monster and your people are safe. Now please, release your husband.” Jasper surprisingly stern. “We have urgent business from Phandalin. Townmaster Wester has requested any assistance you can provide to thwart a dragon menace that has been seen in the area. Can you help us?”
King Korboz looks slightly abashed at Jasper's stern tone. But then he looks back at Gnerkli, stuck to the chair, and his expression softens. Gnerkli gives him a very exasperated look as Korboz goes over to the chair. He pours the liquid in the flask he's been carrying on the chair and Gnerkli. Within a few minutes, the glue that has trapped Gnerkli to the chair dissolves and the other gnome king is able to stand up.
"Thank you!" he says to the party. "My husband here overreacted...badly."
"I didn't want anything to happen to you," says Korboz quietly. "That shapechanger...it could've been anyone...anything. It wasn't safe for you to go out."
Gnerkli sighs and touches Korboz's face. "I know. I understand why you did it. Just next time no glue, all right?"
Korboz nods sheepishly. He returns to the party. "I have a few items that might be of interest to your Townmaster," he says. He walks over to the bed and pulls out a chest from underneath. Unlocking it, he retrieves the items and shows the party. One is a velvet wizard's hat, and the other is an ornate wand. "Take these with our immense gratitude," says Korboz.
Khessa examines the two objects with mixed emotions. On the one hand, she is very impressed by the fact that she has at her disposal two other magical objects to use against Cryovain - who would have ever thought that she, the humble daughter of a cabbage farmer, would one day even have in her hands some enchanted items!? Yet, on the other hand, the blonde arcane warrior has by now accumulated too much experience of dangers, battles and magics not to realize that those objects, by themselves, will do little against a dragon. Will they help? In part. Maybe. But they will certainly not be decisive!
However, the tall adventuress doesn't intend to be ungrateful towards the gnomes, so she smiles openly: "Thank you Korboz! We will try to use your generous gifts to the best of our possibilities! And Gnerkli, I'm happy that you are free once more!"
Examining the two objects, Khessa is fascinated by the elegant and characteristic hat and, among other things, she realizes a fundamental detail that prevents others from being able to use it - so she puts it on her head and (imagining how strange and funny she must look like, in armor from the neck down, but with a wizard's hat on her head instead of a helmet) stands in the midst of her companions and slowly turns on herself so that they can look at her from all points of view: "Do I look fine? Cute, isn't it? And by the way, it seems that only a wizard can be able to attune to it... So it's probably better that I keep it. The wand, on the other hand, at least anyone can use it... Anyone who thinks they can put it to good use, take it".
Meanwhile, the blonde arcane warrior tries to submit to the gnomes the idea of the anti-dragon machine that she had before: "Fibblestib, Korboz, Gnerkli, my gnome friends, there is another thing that you could perhaps do, to ensure that this menace of the dragon Cryovain is eliminated forever. Would not you all also like this? Well, do you think you might be able to build a machine capable of firing a web of chains at the dragon? It shouldn't be too complicated, for ingenious inventors like you gnomes... Something like a ballista, but that fires a ball of chain that opens in the air in a wide net... If you could make such a device, Cryovain's fate would be sealed! If hit during a flight, Cryovain would find himself suddenly entangled in the net. Then he would fall to the ground. My companions and I could attack him while he is still dazed and hurt from the fall, with the net that would prevent him both from fighting at his best and (even more important) from escaping... It would be the end of him! And the credit would all go to your invention! What do you think? Is that something you might be able to build?"
