Give me just a tic and I'll see if I can find out anything." She mutters a few words and holds her holy symbol up to her forehead before waving it in the four cardinal directions and casts Detect Good and Evil, then concentrates on what she feels of the world around her. If it seems like the island might be close enough to be within range she will cautiously move up to the water's edge without stepping in or disturbing it.
Celeste rocks up and down on the balls of her feet at the back of the group. She was so tempted to skip some pebbles… Curious, her big eyes become entranced by Jane’s movements and she tip toes closer. Her ears twitch and she sniffs at the air to see if she could smell what magics Jane was putting out. While she smelled many things, she didn’t know what, or if, magic could smell. So, the blonde did what any normal person would do… right? When she was done huffing the air she drops to the ground at the waters edge to sniff at it before laying her head down to listen. While Jane listens to magic, she listens to the sound of the ground and waters nearby.

Do you think those kids made it across?" He reached into his belt at his waist and pulled out a hidden flask. He took a long pull and stuffed it back. He quickly caught himself, "Sorry, I'm working on being nicer. Would anyone like some whiskey? It takes like crap but it gets the job done." He holds out the flask and shakes it a little.
Jane's divine energy flows through her and washes over the cavern, penetrating the water and seeking the deepest shadows. Celeste leans down and sniffs at the edge of the water.

As Jane and Celeste turn to look at each other and compare notes, a single small stone is knocked loose and drops into the pond, ripples spreading quickly and evenly across the still water.
A single tentacle shoots out of the dark water and lances out at the space along the shore where the pebble came loose.
Bree's tiny halfing form is completely enveloped by the black tentacle, which wraps entirely around here and pulls her under the water, disappearing into the depths.
The last thing Jane sees is the look of terror in Bree's eyes as the thief struggles in vain to break loose.
As the tentacle shoots out of the water at Bree, the rune on Hoghead's shield flares. Anyone watching could swear that the creature was attacking Bree, but at the last moment, it went after Hoghead himself. Con save 20

"But when I remember, I'll keep ya posted." She'd grin apologetically. "Maybe I just need something to jog my memory-"

Celeste's eyes light up, her mouth opens wide, then curves into a mischievous smile. "Oh ho ho! It'sa biggun!" She hops up into the air when she comes down, she goes all the way and slaps the ground. Then the blonde stands upright, rears back as if she's casting a line, then gives it a good tug to see if she can pull it forward into the shallows. "Come to Momma!" A long vine-like thorny whip comes from the ground at her feet and lashes out at the tentacle.

Bree makes her way toward the water's edge to help in the investigation and knocks a small pebble loose, triggering the tentacle strike. Hogshead moved with reckless abandon and preternatural speed to interpose himself and was promptly pulled under the black waters.
Zerexius grabbed for the heavily armored dwarf, but found himself caught flatfooted, his hands clasping at empty air.
The party's newest addition saw the creature for what it was - simply another fish waiting to be caught - and reached out with her magic to pull it onto shore.

Hogshead is restrained but mostly out of the water.
The creature has been pulled to within 10ft of the shoreline - it appears the pond has a 'shelf' that goes about 5 feet out and is about 2 feet deep before falling off dramatically. The monster is right at the edge of that ledge struggling against Celeste's Thorn Whip.

Hoghead is Berserk
Whenever a hostile creature damages you while the axe is in your possession, you must succeed on a DC 15 Wisdom saving throw or go berserk. While berserk, you must use your action each round to attack the creature nearest to you with the axe. The searing anger and hurt exploded from him and he roared, "EVERYTHING DIES!!" He begins to grow to just over twice his size. He struggles to break free from the tentacles STR 21 21 in case it messes up
He will drop his shield and grab his battleaxe with with both ands and takes two swings 8 (if he fails his str check he will have disadvantage) or 9 for 7 + 3 damage
