With the guard there, she's even less inclined to try this alone. She continues to walk past the thief and his guard, giving the tall human a friendly nod as she does so. She makes a show of examining the area around the caravan, as she pretends to be patrolling the current camp. She circles back around to her friends after a few moments, irritated scowl back on her face. Either she's going to have to wait until dark to enact revenge, or she's going to have to get help. She glances back at Losvius before speaking, "Any of ye be up for helpin me collect some payment? I was hopin to just be able to sneak in there and grab somthin of equal or grater value, but that don't be possible with the big guy out there."
Khessa asks Zale to explain what happened better and when she learns of the theft suffered by her friend, she is indignant: "That dishonest worm mustn't get away with it! Of course I'm with you!"
"We could try several things..." reflects the blonde arcane warrior "We could publicly accuse him of the theft. I doubt that the caravan would like to know that they have a thief with them! If discovered, the worm would - I hope - be abandoned and forced to give the dagger back and go away and travel alone. And I know a ritual for sensing emanations of magic... I should be able to sense your dagger. The spell can penetrate most barriers; it is blocked by 1' of stone or common metal, a thin sheet of lead, or 3 ' of wood. But I doubt the worm has a wagon with walls thicker than 3'... So I guess the only way for me not to perceive the object, would be if he had covered it with a sheet of lead. But he could have thought of that only if he knew how this spell works, though".
"Or" suggests the tall adventuress "today I could study a sleep spell... and tonight try it on Mr Pole. I have no idea how tough he is... if he wasn't too tough, he could fall asleep. And you could freely search for what you want. The disadvantage is that you would have to hurry, because the spell only lasts a minute. But the advantage is that we could not be accused of anything - the evidence would only be that the guard fell asleep instead of doing his duty".
"Or if you prefer," Khessa hesitates a little before proposing the last solution "I can try to distract Mr Pole, so that you can sneak in (perhaps made invisible by a spell from Nixi). I could try to challenge him to arm wrestling. .. and/or flirting with him. Of course, in this case we absolutely have to let Eric know the plan first! I would never want him to believe... I mean, that I... well you understand... ehm..." she expresses herself in an uncharacteristically confused and embarrassed way than her usual... "Anyway, you agree, don't you? It's much better if we warn him too, in this latter case".
"Which option do you prefer, my friend?" ask the tall adventuress "Or had you already thought of something different?"
However, while Zale decides, Khessa retreats to a place where she can't be seen (perhaps in Samardag's wagon, for a moment?) and casts Detect Magic as ritual. When she is done, she exits Samardag's wagon and manages to pass within 30' (hardly a distance to arouse suspicion!) of the worm's wagon. Does she perceive the presence of magic?
"Well," Calvin adds. "There is always me. If I have been any use to anyone so far it's been moving stealthily. Do you think a tiny lizard would be noticed? The only thing is that I would have to transform twice."

Easy enough. Passing by Losvius’s wagon... no magic...

Hmm... Keeping concentration (spell duration is up to 10 minutes) Khessa casually also passes by Mr Shady's wagon... Magic there? Or no magic either?

Oh yes, multiple sources of magic there! Most probably from the stolen treasure. But the dagger could be there.
"there is another, I say more diplomatic, option we have" says the dwarf "as you may know, there is a spell thanks to which you can prevent someone to lie. In this way we could be able to make them to admit their theft. If we make them to do so in front of other witnesses it's going to be hard for them not giving you back what has been stolen"
Khessa comes back just in time to hear what the dwarf cleric proposes and she smiles: "Your idea is quite wise, as usual! But we might discover that the thief is someone else... I discretely scanned Losvius's wagon and detected no magic aura there; so either he understands of magic shielding more than I think... or maybe Mr Shady is the thief. He could have stolen the dagger to add it to the cult's loot (lots of magic I detected there) in hope that we suspected Losvius (as we are in fact doing)".
"Maybe you're right" answers he "besides, we probably should just continuing to keep an eye on them and on that wagon, waiting for a better time for Zale to get back what they stole. I think that creating tensions in the caravan can't be of any benefit, until we know the situation better, what do you think?"
"and what's you're opinion Zale? do you think you can hold your pride and waiting for a better occasion in the following days?" Eric says to the Dragonborn
(Sorry for holding things up, it's dead week for me so I'm busier than normal)
Zale listens to the others thoughtfully, and smiles at her friends' willingness to help her. Then she patiently waits for Khessa's return. Once the tall woman does, the dragonborn replies to her companions. "Well, I do trust Khessa's magics. So I suppose that shady fellow is the more likely thief. If that do be the case, then Losvius likely has no idea it be missin."She pauses for a moment smiling, this cult guy is a far better nemesis then that fool of a merchant. He clearly had a plan, and it had even worked on her for a short while. She'd been to caught up in her anger to even think about the possibility that the thief was someone else. To bad he hadn't thought of planting an item in Losvius's wagon. That would have been the smart thing. To think, a magic user didn't even account for other mages....Very well, she'll play his game. She'll let him think he got away with it, then steal his crown right off his head. "Heheh, I can wait. And I'll be making it obvious that I be suspectin Losvius. That's what the guy wants after all." She cracks her knuckles, "Then when he be least expectin it, we'll get me dagger back with interest. Heheh."

"Plus, if we don't report that the dagger has been stolen," Khessa suggests to Zale "try to pay attention to how Losvius behaves... Until today he was so insistent with his requests to buy it for a few silver pieces... if he doesn't know that it has been stolen from you and he has nothing to do with it, then he will probably go on to pester you into selling the dagger to him... and that will confirm our hypothesis that probably Mr Shady did it instead".
By now Losvius has finished his breakfast and is on his way to "negotiate" with Zale, leaving the Pole with his wagon. When he's close enough he says: "Well, how about 45 silver?"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Zale shakes her head. She can't very well keep up the charade of thinking this guy is the culprit when he continuously pesters her like this. Well, that answers that question....She gives Losvius a long suffering look, "Still no. I told ye, she be worth her weight in gold. I won't be takin no silver."
As she responds to him, she glances around to see if she notices Mr Shady anywhere.
So, if nothing happens during the day, the caravan will arrive at an crossroad by evening. There is already a camp of a number of wagons here that will probably continue with your caravan. Perhaps some travelers of the caravan will follow a different route here. In any case, it is decided to spend the night here.
Khessa wonders whether the new wagons may be of the Cult as well... out of curiosity, she does as she had done before: she withdraws (maybe in The Hoper's wagon?), casts Detect Magic as ritual, then moves discreetly to a useful distance...
Do emanations of magic come from the new wagons?
Regardless of that, the blonde arcane warrior instructs Anator to watch over the Cultists at night - possibly flying by and listening, if they start talking to the newcomers.
Following Khessa's example, Eric retires briefly in prey, unseen he cast Detect evil and good as well his usual artisan blessing. "Sometimes" he says "ritual objects that are not magical themself can harbor traces of the magical power that has used during ceremonies, both sacred or fiendish ones, those practices should be common among cultists" he says when wandering around the camp with Khessa, looking for magic vibes.
