"Waah?! I lost!"Zale tries to sit up but gasps and grabs her side. "That bastard, how did I bloody lose to that Rat!" She lays back down, "Thanks for keeping me alive. I do believe this is what the third r fourth time you've torn me from Death's arms?"
"I'll take care of her" says Eric to Khessa "meanwhile, you may thing about our next move. I don't think they'll let this things pass by without consequences, we must prepare ourself"
...
(OOC: But how did you still lose, Zale?! The cultist was too healthy to use your breath, so you had to try the rapier attack and got unlucky again? You can tell us, the characters saw the whole match, even if you and the DM ended it using PM...)
"This is why I tried to invite her to challenge me..." Khessa explains "I also believe that that Cultist should be eliminated. A second challenge is the easiest and quickest way to do it. If I face her alone, without anyone that helps her, while I'm being able to count on all my spells, I can kill her. If instead we find ourselves against her together with other Cultists... she is a fighter who can give us problems. Tenacious. Resistant. Cold. Skillful. Better to kill her alone, than when she can team up with others. If she doesn't challenge me tomorrow, I can try to provoke her, like she did with Zale..."
"Or we can ambush her" The blonde arcane warrior reflects. "She wants to kill Zale. Some of us hide in an agreed place (not all of us, otherwise we arouse suspicion - the others stay with Zale). Then Zale goes away, alone, towards that same place, where she finally stops. Our Cultist will try to seize the opportunity... but instead of finding Zale alone, the others will also be there - and the Cultist will disappear, never to be seen again - what a shame".
"I would advise against ambushing" the dwarf says "if our opponent disappears; it would be pretty obvious to everyone who the culprit is. And then we became the vengeful bad guys, giving to the cultist a way to attack us in mass; not least, in this way they could be able to turn the other members of the caravan against us quite easily"
"I trust you wisdom, Eric! We'll try the challenge then!" Khessa smiles at her beloved dwarf. "At the end of a day where I didn't have to use spells, obviously. If I can use them all during the fight... I can do it".
"Just be sure to warn me before getting into the fight" says he "if we prepare in advance there are ways in which I can enhance your power without getting caught"
(Sorry for the lack of explanation, I had to write that up fast! Lol If I had remembered Uncanny dodge earlier, then that fight would have been a lot different, buuuut I didn't so here we are.)
(Basically, the fight just lasted a bit longer. I thought about having her use her breath weapon, but she wouldn't have done that due to the amount of bystanders. Her lighting is a 30ft line, so it almost certainly would have hit someone in the ring of watchers. She did manage to bloody the cultist up a LOT and if her last attack would have hit, she would have won. But alas, she missed and the cultist didn't.)
Zale looks at Khessa and Eric, "No. We shouldn't act to quickly. And I don't think challengin her again would be in our favor. Even if I would like to rip her throat out." She growls flexing her claws. "That woman is convinced that I killed her friend. 'N if you go pickn fights with er, it'll only make her hate you too. I do be thinkin we should bide our time. If we kill her now, everything points at us. Maybe even try to put some blame on someone else. Hmmm. Could try to frame her for somethin. Get some folks to turn against her."
“Zale is right. It was a fair fight and hopefully they will feel a measure of justice since they won.” He pauses for a second. “If not, they may try something at night.” Kriv takes a look at Zale’s wounds. “Let’s get a bite to eat. You can rest up a bit.”
"No, Kriv... they won't" Khessa sadly pats his friend on the shoulder. "You saw the Cultist too... If I hadn't jumped into the middle of the arena almost immediately, she would have finished off Zale. Without thinking twice. I'm surprised she didn't try... I would have liked to have had the excuse to eliminate her - but her survival instinct must have stopped her - and she preferred to ask 'mom'-half-orc for advice. Maybe the half-orc is high in rank".
"Briferhew also had the same impression" the blonde arcane warrior continues. "The cultist will continue to harbor a grudge for Zale - perhaps involving the other cultists too, perhaps not - but she certainly will".
Nixi pipes up: Let's not forget what we're here for. Maybe we can figure out what's happening with the "cargo" and leave before more problems arise? Besides... I could use something to eat.
"Good thing we have a friend ready to remind us of the things that matter!" Khessa laughs heartily, patting Nixi on the shoulder "Let's eat something, then, and later we'll take a look at what's happening with the cargo".
You make for the kitchen. When you enter you notice that doubles as a common room where people gather to smoke, drink, swap stories, and keep warm. But around this time of day there aren't many people. In the back you hear a grumpy man mutterings as he works around his kitchen.
"I do be hungry." Zale groans. "I suppose it would be best for some one else to go lookin at that cargo anyway." She grins at Eric, "Oh I do want a rematch."
Khessa sits with her friends, eating with them, on the one hand happy that Zale was not killed by that Cultist so clearly superior to the others of the sect previously faced and on the other hand anxious to understand if the Cult's loot is really being hidden along with the food in the Warehouse... and why.
"Let's try not to leave Zale alone, until she has recovered..." the blonde arcane warrior advises "Nothing takes away from my mind the possibility that the Cultist who tried to kill her wants to try again - possibly by getting help, if for now she herself isn't able to".
When Gristle Pete mutters about his lack of sleep, the tall adventuress puts a hand on his shoulder and in a sympathetic tone says to him: "I'm really sorry Pete! It's obvious that you're a young man full of good will... You deserve to be recognized , not overworked. And to think that in Waterdeep there was a lawyer who just needed a trusted personal cook... But anyway, why do they let you sleep so little? Bog makes you work at night too? At night you shouldn't have many customers, here, to serve..."
Pete looks at you like you've lost your mind. What? No! I kick everyone out when I want to sleep. It's those damned rats! I don’t get no sleep from all the critters in the floors banging and knocking and hissing and whispering at all hours!
And we're done, we can continue this timeline as it has happened.

"That, would be the wisest thing to do I think" nods the dwarf "and who knows, with Moradin's assistance, Zale could be able to have her rematch"

The man (you assume it's Gristle Pete) brings you some stew, bread and ale, muttering about his lack of sleep as he does.
[Zale, you can take a short rest here if you want]
