Zale shrugs, "I don't really care about them to be honest. I just figured it wouldn't hurt to see if we could use them to our advantage." She looks back at the others, "Since that doesn't seem to be the case, I am not opposed to disposing of them."
The dragonborn raises an eyebrow when the roper addresses them. She can't help but feel like this might be some sort of trap. Waiting for it to respond to Khessa, she tries to get a read on the beast.

The Roper seems to be open for a trade. You think that it just doesn't know enough words in Common. "Eggs" for example.
"I bring food" Khessa explains to the Roper. "You put eggs" (she points to the eggs, to show to the creature what them are) "here" (she point to a place that the roper can reach without need to exit the pit and the party can reach without coming down). "You get food. We get eggs. Yes?"
The blonde arcane warrior brings two of the feshly killed cultists corpses that are left after the battle in Frluam's room. She keep one out of Roper's reach, while tossig the other to the roper: "See? Food. Now you put eggs here. And I give more food".
Zale scratches her head. "Well... there are a bunch of Kobolds we could feed 'im. Should probably get those first, but I don't think it be a good idea to leave that cultist down there un-watched."
"Oh, well..." replies Khessa "One problem at a time. If the roper becomes friend of ours, then maybe it will be not difficult to dispose of Mr Sponge down there. We could then safely take place, send lights around then shot him down from distance. Or have him surrender".
The Roper seems to ignore Nixi. It looks at the dead Cultists that Khessa brought. Dead food-bringer food? It seems to think thing over before it adds: You food-bringer!
"Dead food-bringer can't bring food anymore". Khessa explains "So you can eat him! He is food. What's the matter? Do you eat something different, usually? Try at least a bite. Maybe tasty".
Perplexed, the blonde arcane warrior thinks: 'A predator... that does not eat a freshly killed prey? Darn... is it vegetarian?'
(@DM: there was something possibly edible in the room where we found Mr Sponge?)
"I can't see why we should look more tasty to it than the dead one! The dead is not rotting, is freshly killed. We are all humanoids..." replies Khessa "Maybe the Roper is just used to different food. If it just could explain better..."
"Didn't you notice the food he trowed down there" the dwarf address the Roper and pats Kriv's shoulder "Is living food you know, the best the house could offer, and there are big lizards as sides!" the dwarf smiles hysterically
Calvin witnesses the whole exchange between the group and the roper. It was possible that this monstrosity simply just preferred the hunt rather than just eating. Its whole appearance suggests that the must be adapted to that of an ambush predator. Similar to crocodiles, a creature that camouflages in its surroundings until an unsuspecting prey happened to enter its vicinity. That's what the roper is.
How he was going to explain all that whilst staying as a lizard, Calvin did not know.

There doesn't seem to be anything that might be edible for a Roper. With all those Guard Drakes around, and now a Roper, you think there may be a whole chamber with food somewhere in here.
"What did I tell you? It's good to eat..." Khessa smiles at the roper "Would you place the eggs up here where I asked you, now, pretty please? So I'll send you down more food?"
The Roper is too busy eating to respond, but Khessa and Eric... you 2 get the feeling that the Roper is just playing dumb. Zale, you think the Roper is just more simple than a Kobold.

You! You Dragon Dog?

Nixi will try switching to Draconic, and repeat her earlier exhortation, adding, "No Dragon Dog. I am a Nixi."

"Indeed, although taking him back to Greenest for being interrogated is preferable, but you'r right, just handle one problem at time" the dwarf nods.

The Roper suddenly lashes out with a tendril and grabs a dead Cultist. As he reels it in he says: Maybe try?
The Roper takes a bite...
Mmmmm delic... ehm... Tasty!
The Roper digs in, but something doesn't seem right. Anyone paying attention can make an Insight check.

Zale already doesn't like this. Even though the roper had seemed like it would make a deal, it is a creature of darkness...
