"Oh, thank you for pointing it out to me!" Khessa exclaims, realizing that just looking at the walls (and not at the floor) wasn't a good method of investigation. "I did not see it! In fact, I was about to put my foot in..."
The blonde arcane warrior, while her beloved dwarf examines the Circle with experience and observation, ritual-casts Detect Magic in order to integrate the information (if the portal is still open and usable, it should radiate magic...)

You get a conjuration vibe from the circle. It's not open at the moment, but you've read about these permanent teleportation circles. To travel through the gate, a command word must be spoken aloud (a whisper will do).
Zale's eyes bulge when she realizes that she's standing in the circle. HOW THE HECK IS SHE SO BLIND! Fast as lightning, she jumps out of it, then looks herself over as if to make sure she's still there. "ARRRG! How in the bloody seas did I not see that bloody thing?! I ain't cursed now am I?!" She looks at Khessa then Eric then immediately feels like an idiot when the word portal finally registers. "Oh...heh, a portal. Like a teleportation thing. Well, unless ye magic folks know how to activate this thing, I don't be knowin how we're supposed to follow em."
"Actually, we know how to activate it..." Khessa reveals to her friends "It's not open at the moment, but I've read about these permanent teleportation circles! To travel through the gate, a command word must be spoken aloud. Well, aloud... a whisper will do, in fact. And we know the word, we found it in Rezmir's notes describing the portal beneath the castle and how to operate it" she shows the notes... notes that include the command word to use for the activation: 'Draezir'.
"Perhaps before we chase the leaders through the portal though, we should finish securing the Castle?" the blonde arcane warrior reasons with the party "And also take the remaining hours of the night to rest after we're done? By chasing them now, we'd have a better chance of catching them... but I don't know how much chance we'd have of beating them".
"Yes, I don't believe we have the strength in case we face Rezmir. You're right my dear. We should secure the castle and regain our strength before pursuing them into the portal"
"Also, by spending some time to rest, I could be able to deliver a message to the Order about where we are and what we have done here"
"They will be pleased to know that the Cult has lost an important base!" Khessa smiles at her beloved dwarf.
Therefore concentrating on the task of 'securing the Castle', the blonde arcane warrior proposes: "Good; we have explored this northwest path... Shall we now try the one immediately in front, the southeast path?"
And if no one has any other preferences, the tall adventuress leads the way along that path... She continues to send Anator ahead of her, keeping him a little ahead of the party, scouting.
Calvin watches as the rest of the group investigate the teleportation circle or portal, or whatever it was. He had only heard of such magic and knew that druids were not capable of such spells.
He agrees that is good that the cult has lost an important base to their deeds. A small victory in their defeat.

Ok, so the party follows the path SE. They stumble on a large underground lake, as far as their light reaches. The ceiling arches 30 feet overhead in this water-filled cavern. There's a strip of dry land along the wall going SE.
Eric: you can make out a little island in the middle of the lake. Actually, make a Perception check for me.
[[ OOC: @DM: Anator was scouting ahed of the party - see post 4872... and he has Blindsight in 60' range... Should he also roll for Percpetion? Or just Eric? ]]

Perception checks please!

[[ Khessa tries but... hey... it's Perception... In Zale we trust! 😉 ]]
Khessa's Perception: 6
Perception: 17
Eric's one is 21
Despite the mist you 2 notice a teleportation circle carved into the floor.

(haha....ha... well I doubt Zale will notice anything more then Khessa but here goes nothing.)
Perception: 19
(Lol well that's slightly better....but still baaaaad XD)
"Look at this" Eric indicates the circle "this must be the portal"
Eric inspect the portal to understand if it is still open and usable.

Before you continue, remind me again: what lightsource did you have and what was the range?
Player: Any Good Alignment // DM: Lawful Evil
Eric has darkvision but he is used to can cast light on Khessa's ring (sheds bright light in a 20-foot radius)
Khessa also can cast Light. Definitely, this should be our usual lightsource.
