"Killing her like this, just.... feels wrong. But if you think that is best, then we should make it fast. I just really hate going back on my word. We said she could live didn't we?"
"If I couldn't put on a convincing act. I wouldn't be in this line of work. I am not worried about being hunted by the serpents. I have protection and have taken precautions to ensure they won't find me." He says in a flat voice. "I figured you would rather run. That's fine, but i would suggest going farther than just skipping town. I'd get as far from these parts as you can. If you don't, you'll have more than one organization after you."
"As far as she knows, I might not be the leader of our group. Feel free to step in whenever you want."
Zenia pulls back a little from Kyrsa, "Hey, whoa, I thought Grig said he would pay us to leave, no offense. Uh, no coin needed, forget I said that. Um... I've told you all I know, so now what?"
After Akyan speaks, she replies, "Oh, don't worry about me, I'll get good and lost, you'll never see me again."
Tamryn says to Annika, "showing up empty-handed to a Serpent warehouse sounds like a fine way to blow our cover. When the Serpents attack us for not actually being Serpents and also having no cargo, those two might become suspicious. Do you think you could lose them if we went someplace relatively crowded? It is best if they don't follow us any further."
Annika replies, "It's going to be almost impossible to lose them while we are driving this wagon. It wouldn't be a problem if we abandon it, but then they might report that back to the Dannihyrs. Do you know where the rest of your team was headed? If we get there and convince them to act as Serpents, maybe the tails will be satisfied. Or, you know, we could kill them I guess."
(Oh, oops. I forgot Akyan offered them coin in exchange for getting lost... oh well.)
Kyrsa gives Akyan an annoyed look, "Well, he isn't in charge around here." She turns back to the Dragonborn, "Good...hmm. Good question..." She looks back up at Lyndaran, a thoughtful expression on her face, "Well, if you won't help us, I suppose the best thing for you to do would be to get lost as quickly as possible..."
She pretends to think for a moment as she says mentally to Akyan, "I know it feels wrong, but we have to consider the ramifications here. ...still, I understand that you do not want to go back on your word. I suppose it may be worth letting her go if she can convince her coworkers to leave as well...though I hate to let such scum get away. Still, we don't want to risk fighting all of them. How about we send you down with her? Just to ensure that she does what she is told. We don't need to give them any coin. She's frightened enough I think we can get rid of her without bribes. You can go down with her, and Jhaartael will stand by watch your back. Tell them to head out of the city immediately, and that they will have someone watching them to make sure that they get out. See if Jhaartael will send his raven to watch them."
Mina, having found a spot on the corner of the bed in the room, listens to the interrogation of the dragonborn. She isn't sure that letting her go is the best course of action, but she trusts Kyrsa's intuition and having not a lot of experience in this matter, decides to keep quiet.
After a bit she spends some time looking around the room as the others are engaged. If there is some furniture, she'll go through the drawers or anything to peruse. She does her best to stay away from the body so as not to draw attention in that direction. She also checks out the window from time to time while she waits to see where this is headed.
A thought pops in her head, and she asks one sentence, very direct and calm without lifting her eyes to Zenia, "How many should we expect over on Seabreeze Lane?"
Akyan detects no deception in Zenia's words. Was he looking for something specific?
Zenia replies to Kyrsa, "It's not that I object to helping you... it's just that there's, what, three of you against all of the Serpents? Those arent just long odds... that's suicide. I never figured you for a martyr, Grignar."
The dragonborn swivels her head when the sea elf speaks. "Oh, hello. Well, I've only ever been to HQ a handful of times. Grig here would know better. I'd guess 30-60 total at any one time, but Im sure you know the Seven Serpents cartel has hundreds on the payroll in various positions."
Sorry guys got sick.. still recovering... yes, while working hehe.
Lyndaran sees the exchange of looks between his comrades and understands that they are communicating. Not able to participate in the exchange without exposing them or the history Akyan is putting he remains silent. He strongly disagree with them letting the slaver go but adds.
"Tell your friends "he almost spit the word to the dragonborn " that you should go and check why the shipment is taking so long to come here. Mark my words. If I ever see you again the Serpents would be the last of your concerns. And whatever you do in the future, if you go back to slavery again I'll hunt you down. I'll hunt your friends and family. There will be no one that will ever remember that you existed."
"Alright, as much as I don't like letting them go..."she pauses in her message to Akyan. "Personally I would rather kill her and leave, but I know you don't want to do that. Perhaps they will lead us to some other friends of theirs if Jhaarteal can have his familiar follow them. We will just have to see. Let us hope that we do not regret this later."
She looks to Zenia, "Good, well then...Grignar will see you out. See that you leave exactly as you were told."
As the dragonborn leaves, Kyrsa raises a hand when Lyndaran speaks up, "No, don't bother with whatever shipment you were expecting. Just leave."
When the dragonborn is far enough away not to hear them anymore, Kyrsa turns to Mina and Lyndaran, "I don't like letting her go anymore then either of you do. You know how I felt coming in. I wish we could just wipe them all off the face of the earth. Personally I would have just killed her here and now, but Akyan promised her her life. Normally I would not take that into consideration while dealing with honorees scum like her, but if they all leave we won't have to worry about fighting them. Perhaps it would benefit us to search the building." She pauses, looking back at the door, "I've instructed Akyan to tell Jhaarteal to have his familiar follow them to make sure they don't stick around. Hopefully, if they try anything we will know. If they do try anything...well we'll know who they contacted and where we should strike next. Still, I will not pretend that there are no risks involved with this, but we will not know what the ramifications are until they happen. Let us hope they are few to none, and minor at that."
"Just to give the others a reason to leave, they are not going to leave just because she says so... " explains Lyndaran.
After her explanation he nods.
"I admire you. You all try to keep your morals even among these... filth... "he says referring to the slavers " Just don't be so naive that they will keep their word. All of them will stab you at the first chance, and rob you while you are still breathing. They trade on other's life as if they were merchandise. They deserve no mercy. They will show no mercy."
Lyndaran's words hit Akyan like a swift blow to the gut. However, he does his best to hide it. He understands the others view of the situation, but that does not change his own. He is not one to place trust blindly, he would be lying if he said he trusted that this dragonborn would keep her word, but that does not mean she shouldn't get a chance to redeem herself.
He walks over and unties Zenia, helping her up, he quickly guides her towards the door so that she doesn't have the chance to look around the room anymore. Closing the door behind them he says, "You are lucky I was there, If i wasn't, they would likely have killed you on sight. They are good people, but they have no love or mercy for people like us. I hope you use the extra time I've given you to rethink your life choices." Before she has a chance to respond he continues, "We'll tell the others that the shipment has been delayed, you all are going to go check on it while I go to HQ and explain the situation. Once you are out of the city, tell them the truth. Understood?"
(Akyan would have been out of the room at that part, just so you know Rynn. I believe he is speaking to Kyrsa there.)
"Ah, I see," Kyrsa says. "I was assuming that fear alone would encourage them to leave. The dragonborn seemed pretty sure that they are all as good as dead if the Serpents find out that we got the jump on them, but I understand what you were trying to do there."
She nods slowly at Lyndaran's words, "I must say, if I did not see opportunity in letting her go, I would have insisted we kill her here and leave the others to wonder what happened. I am well acquainted with people like this. Some scum work in the gutter, others where knots on their shoulders. Regardless, it is important to weigh the risks. That is why I am asking Jhaarael to send his raven to keep an eye on them."
"Glad you are having them followed. If you would have taken any longer... I probably would have shot her in the neck with my arrow. Sorry, I was really fighting the urge not to, this working in a team environment, well its definitely not something I'm used to and there are difficulties for me. I am concerned what the dwarves will think of what we did as well. Letting her go after she's seen our faces?" Mina shrugs and heads over to the body and checks it over.
" We found ourselves in a hard spot. It is not easy to have others people life in your hands. At least for me the lives of my companions, your lives, are the ones that carry more weight, specially against one of those. Still what is done is done. If we are able to keep an eye on them the better. We should go now, unless we want to burn this place to the ground. "
Kyrsa nods, "Valid concerns, I brought these up in my conversation with Akyan, but I didn't want to discuss it in front of the prisoner. I think it would be best to discuss as a group what we should do in situations like this. I appreciate you two showing restraint. I thought about just killing her a couple times myself...it would have been the easier thing to do." She sighs, still second guessing the decision but not wanting to show it, "Regardless, what's done is done, once Akyan and Jhaarteal return, I think we should discuss together what we should do if another situation like this arises."
While waiting, Jhaartael will watch the game. Does he have a sense of who is winning/losing? What other discourse do the players have between hands?
The blue Dragonborn, named Ovni and the male human Marcus seem to be losing badly to the duergar, Neero. Neero seems a bit bored due to the lack of skill of his opponents and keeps going the door and peering out into the night, as if he were expecting something.
Mina inspects dead Grignar while Zenia accompanies his live doppleganger down the stairs. She whispers to Akyan, "they'll take the new orders better from you than from me... you're the squad leader, after all."
The card game stops, and Ovni stands looking at Grignar/Akyan suspiciously. "You two were up there alone a long time...why?"he asks in an obviously jealous but not very intelligent voice. Marcus says nothing, disinterested, but Neero turns from the door and stares oddly at Akyan/Grignar.
Mina meanwhile finds a ring of keys in Grignar's belt-pouch, and a thumb-ring of gold fashioned into a twisting serpent with a glittering emeraldeye on his hand.
"Killing her like this, just.... feels wrong. But if you think that is best, then we should make it fast. I just really hate going back on my word. We said she could live didn't we?"
