Akyan nods to Jhaartael, "I can do that, we just need to figure out who's going in and who's making the distraction. I say we send at least three of us in, if not four. What kind of distraction do we have in mind? If you can make some of us invisible, then whoever goes in may be able to simply walk past them."
After the high elf mentions his potential fire fuel, the drow adds, "I also have oil and a tinderbox, so fuel doesn't sound like a problem."
"Well, I'll volunteer then," Kyrsa offers. "If I can use my teleportation to get us up there faster, I suppose it would make sense for me to use the invisibility as well."
She nods when Akyan says that fuel doesn't seem to be an issue, "Good, at least that's covered. Now we just have to decide on the distraction, assuming we need one." She pauses, "If all we are doing is setting the place on fire. We might be able to just get away with planting some burning parchment, assuming we can do so stealthily enough to not encounter anyone." She looks to Tamryn, "Thoughts?"
“I’ve picked up oil too “ says Lyndaran “ But the distraction will put them on alert. We still do not know if they are aware of the fate of the warehouses even with our efforts to prevent it. Even causing a distraction our split should be momentary. Better to infiltrate together in here to provoque the fire..”
"That depends on the distraction." Akyan states, "We could potentially use those rings for that. Some of us can walk up to the guards then use missing credentials as the distraction...as long as they question the rings anyways. This could potentially create a distraction, while possibly getting a few more of us passed the gates." He thinks for a moment, "Although, if Kyrsa is invisible, we may not even need to send anyone else in. She can simply teleport in while invisible, set a fire or two, then teleport out. I know Tamryn was hoping to get some more Intel, which if Kyrsa happens to teleport into a room that holds such documents, we may still be able to get. However, our main objective is still to just set the place on fire."
((Are there any chimney's or vents on this tower - where does the smoke from all the fires heating the place exit?)) Investigation check if needed: 16 in log
Jhaartael looks around at the buildings, stores, people, animals, and traffic outside the tower, near the guards. ((What does he see))
The architects of this building clearly knew something about defense. There are clear sight-lines in every direction around the tower for at least 60 feet, with little to no cover. The first-floor guards are mostly occupied with screening those who seek entrance, but the guards on higher levels are constantly scanning the ground and skies on all sides for attackers. Jhaartael notices some sparksand smoke emitting from vents that protrude from just under the eaves of each level, carrying the fumes from interior fires to the outside. At this time of night there are glowing lantern-globes hanging from chains on each level that provide illumination, as well.
The sharp-eyed wizard also notes that birds and bats tend to avoid the tower, but those that fly too close seem to strike an invisible barrier of some sort, and ricochet away. The neighborhood looks middle-upper class, with some clothing and jewelry shoppes as well as nicer markets, all of which are closed. There are several taverns with hulking bouncers standing outside their doors, and loud music and happy voices coming from within. A block away from the tower, wedged between a bank and a tailor's shop is a tiny church with a single candle flickering in an alcove beside its closed door, copious tallow drippings on the sidewalk below it.
Jhaartael mentions what he notices about the potential invisible barrier about the tower to the team. "We might not find accessing the tower from above possible. It might even be anti-magic, or at the least one who teleports in might be on their own as the rest could not pass through the field."

"Interesting..." he says as he notices the church. He stops, then digs through his backpack producing 5 sheets of parchment and a couple scrolls.
"Here,"the wizard interjects handing the papers to Krysa, "Use these as we need. The 2 scrolls are scrolls of Disguise Self. I am going to go check outthat church."
When he turns back, he has changed to look like a life-worn, old human beggar. He takes an indirect path to the church after discreetly stopping at a few corners and store-fronts. Before entering he will look to see if there is any indication from outside what deity this church is to. Religion 15, investigation 7 (in log)
Mina turns to Kyrsa after Jhaartael heads off, "Are you ok with teleporting in, even if we might not be able to come in after you? That sounds a bit dangerous to me. Are you able to teleport back out if you get in danger?" a look of real concern in her eyes as she asks Kyrsa.
When he turns back, he has changed to look like a life-worn, old human beggar. He takes an indirect path to the church after discreetly stopping at a few corners and store-fronts. Before entering he will look to see if there is any indication from outside what deity this church is to. Religion 15, investigation 7 (in log)
It takes the wizard a few moments of study to locate any exterior symbols indicating sect or creed, but finally, stamped into the bronze door knocker, and carved into the keystone of the arch of the doorway he notes small icons of a sparrow with a beech nut in its talon, and a branch of the rowan tree clutched in its beak. With a start, he recalls this to be one of the symbols of the elvish deity his sister devoted herself to. To him, in this setting it is as striking as a comet on a moonless night, or a pearl in a pig-trough.
Kyrsa accepts the scrolls, frowning a little as Jhaarteal moves to investigate the church. Disguise self? Well perhaps these would be better then invisibility...but she still thinks it would be best to be invisible upon appearing on the second floor. Even if she has a disguise on...and the disguise is good enough to fool passers by, they would still question how she just appeared up there. What would she disguise herself as anyways?
She looks to Jhaarteal again, only to find that he has left for the church, "What does he seek to gain from investigating the church?"
Hearing Mina's question, she turns to her friend and gives her a smile, "Its alright. I'm used to such risk. But...no, once I teleport I can't do so again until I take a rest." She offers a chuckle, "Don't worry about me. I've been through hell more times then I can count. I can't promise I'll make it out again, but I can promise that I will do everything in my power to get back out safely. I am prepared to do whatever it takes to complete the mission." She goes a little more serious, but she doesn't say what she is thinking for fear of what the response would be... In battle, she learned that as long as casualties are kept to a minimum, a death or two didn't matter as long as the mission was completed. This has always bothered her, even though she knows that sometimes sacrifice is necessary. As for her, she will do whatever she can to make sure that the sacrifice will be on her part. She can't stand the thought of losing another squad.
She looks up at the wall, "I will wait until Jhaarteal returns, as I do not think these scrolls are going to be very useful if I try to disguise myself without knowing what anyone on the inside looks like. I think the best plan from here would be for me to teleport up there under an invisibility spell. Once up there, I can lower the rope to see if any of you can get in with me. Meanwhile, while the invisibility spell is in action, I can locate some guards so that we can use the disguise self scrolls to take a general form from the guards, that way any of you who manage to get up there with me can use the disguises. I would still attempt to avoid contact with the enemy, as even with the disguise the risk of discovery increases exponentially with every exposure to the enemy." She pauses, "If no one is able to climb the rope, then I will continue this part of the mission on my own. I will make use of the invisibility for as long as I can, and then use the scrolls as needed."
She looks to Akyan, "And yes, if I see any documents or overhear anything I will bring back whatever information I can find."
“I have a bad feeling about those magical barriers “ says Lyndaran “ but I would try to climb that rope. I can use that magic to disguise myself too if needed.” Lyndaran tries to take a good look on one of the entry guards just in case he needs a fast disguise.
“Yeah I will be more useful with you there is no good vantage point to use the bow from outside”
Mina frowns at Kyrsa's response. "No, this is a mission we are taking if we aren't putting ourselves in unnecessary risk. We already determined that. I do worry that the rope will not work seeing what the birds are doing. As for teleporting, does it make sense for you to teleport in, use invisibility as necessary and if you can get out the front gate with it great, but take a thumb ring and a disguise self scroll, and disguise yourself as one of the serpents and walk out the front door.
"If it makes sense for us to try and get in the front door at the same time so that some of the guards are distracted, we can do that. Either way, keep your link with Akyan and hopefully that will work. But we are not leaving you there, no matter what."
Touching the familiar symbols, a wistful smile presses Jhaartael's lips "A church of the Seldarine... Ah Corellon Larethian! Ah Angharradh, oh triple goddess..." he whispers, letting the knocker of the church fall three times.
As you team continues to observe those who enter and exit the tower, discussing your plans, you notice that a queue has started to form at the south entrance. It seems the time has come for many of the cartel's businesses to deliver the day's earnings and report in. A group of four half-orcs arrives at the end of the queue, and you overhear their conversation:
"Gruumsh's tusk! I'm so tired, and now we have to wait in line??"
"Well, if you had just smashed in that last guy's face instead of giving him more time to pay up, we wouldn't be late, Azar!"
"Shut yer trap. How's he gonna pay off his loan if he's eating through a straw? Don't be a moron, Buknog."
"Guys, doesn't it make you nervous to be standing out here in the open with all this money? I feel exposed, and if someone were to rob us, the cartel would flay us alive."
"Who's going to rob us here, right in front of HQ? No one has the cojones to do that. They'd have to have a death wish to steal from the cartel. Orc up, Logrum."
"All right, you three, pipe down. Looks like we've arrived at rush hour. Why don't we head over to The Flask and Sword tavern, and I'll buy you all a round, and we'll wait til the queue dies down. It's just around the corner and down that dark, deserted alley."
"Yeah, alright, thanks Nogrith, er I mean, thanks boss!"
"Yeah, woo! Thanks!"
The four half-orcs proceed across the street and head off towards the pub.
Touching the familiar symbols, a wistful smile presses Jhaartael's lips "A church of the Seldarine... Ah Corellon Larethian! Ah Angharradh, oh triple goddess..." he whispers, letting the knocker of the church fall three times.
With the third strike, the door swings silently open, revealing a dimly-lit, narrow sanctuary beyond. Flickering candles provide meager pools of light showing a flagstone floor which appears freshly swept, a few wooden benches, some small shrines to the Seldarine in the walls of the chapel, and a simple altar at the far end of the room, behind which a high-elven cleric is sitting cross-legged on a cushion, meditating. He appears of middle-age, perhaps 400 years, and wears a simple brown robe, without apparent armor or weapon.
Assuming Jhaartael enters, the cleric stands and looks at him. In Common, he says "Welcome... human... to my humble chapel. The hour is late... are you needing food, or a place to stay the night?"
As he gazes at you waiting for your reply, his eyes narrow very slightly.
Akyan catches on to Lyndaran's plan and sighs. He really didn't want to try the disguise route again, especially after the last few attempts. Unfortunately, with the barrier around the tower, bluffing their way in might be the only option. He glances at Kyrsa and Mina. "I think Lyndaran might be on to something here. With that barrier, there's no guarantee Kyrsa can teleport in. Trying it might even end in disaster. Those orcs have given us an in. I think we should take it." With that, he hurries after Lyndaran and the half-orcs.
Kyrsa nods to Mina, "That is true. Don't worry. The way I see it this shouldn't be too difficult. Especially if I can use the rope to get back down. If I can teleport in in the first place, then I think it is safe to assume that the barrier isn't keeping things from coming out, merely blocking them from coming in."
She looks to Akyan, sighing, "I'd still much rather try teleporting in, as if it works I think it is the least risky option. But..." As he hurries off after Lyndaran, Kyrsa turns to Tamryn and Mina, her mood souring just slightly. "But seems how half our team just ran off to do whatever they think is the best plan, I can't very well go in without backup ready." She turns to watch Lyndaran and Akyan leave, "I really don't think disguises are the best plan. Not after what happened the last time, but if they think they can handle it..." She pauses for a moment, "It would be better if Jhaarteal was with them. But we could...get rid of the half-orcs, and then four of us could disguise ourselves as them and enter that way." She sighs, "What do you two think? ...though I suppose we should follow them while we discuss this, lest they get to far ahead of themselves and leave us in the dust." She starts after Akyan and Lyndaran, but waits for Mina and Tamryn to follow.
