Akyan glances at Lyndaran, "I understand your argument, but I agree with Jhaartael here. If we stay any longer we will be overwhelmed. We can start another fire on our way out." His voice hisses through his gritted teeth as he continues towards the hidden stair, one hand still holding a flickering green blade, while the other grasps the bloody wound on his side. How is it that he is always the first to get hurt in these things? Growling, he mutters, "Let's hope those two die in the fire." Then glances back at the ensnared guard and throws two blades at him for good measure, before ducking behind the fireplace.
Kyrsa is outlined with a lovely violet flame. How pretty.
Round 6
Lyndaran- 25 - Takes some (much-needed) target practice on the vine-bound guard (-21)
Guard- 20- (restrained) Yelps as his thorny prison tightens around him (2 damage), and struggles to break free (STR check 4 )
Kyrsa- 16 - indulges her pyromania at the southern entrance, starting a small conflagration any Cub Scout would be proud of.
Jhaartael- 14- follows suit by lighting the down-staircase with an oil-fueled flame. Y'all need an intervention from Smokey.
Tamryn- 12- pending
Akyan 9- psychically skewers the poor, restrained guard twice more, causing him to shuffle off this mortal coil in a manner most undignified. (That means he's dead, you meanies.)
((assuming we are now headed down the secret stair))
As the party descends the secret stair, Jhaartael pours a trail of oil along the baseboard of the outer wall of the stairs. As they exit at the base, he ignites the oil sending flames racing up the walls and turning the inner staircase into a chimney.
Tamryn looks through the northern double doors. If the coast is clear, he will attempt to jam the the door to the NE office shut with his hammer and pitons. If it is not clear, he will head down the secret staircase.
Akyan pays no mind to the fact that he actually managed to kill the guard, as he pulls out his own bottle of oil. Trailing behind them, and splashing some on any door they pass so no one can follow them without having to walk through flames.
Lyndaran waits until all his companions have entered the secret stairs, covering them in case more guards came and then enters and closes it behind him, following them downstairs.
(Action ready to attack any more guards or the boss if he decides to come after us. )
Seeing the spreading of the fire he says.
"So much for us not overreaching with the fire... you are really going to impress her " he says with a smirk and avoiding to use any names on porpouse.
" Couldn´t agree more. I only hope that the flames end with that large man we fought. Will your spell keep him at the office for the smoke and fire do the trick?" he replies in whispers as they descend.
As soon as the fire is blazing, Kyrsa rushes to open the secret stairwell, realizing that the guys have no clue where to find it.
"Good work everyone," she says once they are descending the stairs. "Lets hope we can get out of here without further detection." Her mind goes to the person she and Mina had heard descending he stairs earlier. Hopefully they are no longer in the staircase, or the basement for that matter.
"He should be at it for the shorter of as long as I can keep my focus on the spell, he finishes the task I set him to, or Eight hours." Jhaartael says with a smirk.
Tamryn pounds a few pitons under the office door. Mistaking the blows for knocks, the Boss's voice booms out, "Go away! I'm busy! No, wait, bring water! Buckets of water!"
Mina and Kyrsa decide to get while the gettin's good, and head for the secret stair, followed closely by Akyan and Jhaartael, who leaves a trail of oozing oil behind him like some sort of giant snail, if, you know, the snail was running on two legs and disguised as a half-orc.
Tamryn and Lyndaran bring up the rear, slamming the secret door behind them as you all race down the stairs. Luckily for you, they seem to be currently unoccupied. The stairs, not Tamryn and Lyndaran. They do have a vacant look, though. The elves, not... well, you get it.
You reach the first floor landing. Rather than staying to check out the basement, I presume you exit the tower, as you can smell smoke even here, wafting down the stairwell. On the way out, Jhaartael empties the last dregs of his last vial of oil, and sets a magical spark to it. A flame catches, and races up the outer margin of the stairwell, a flaming stairway to heaven. Or hell. Guess it depends if you're going up or down.
Anything more you want to do before you flee the vicinity? Local time is approximately..... *beep* 4 AM.
(Apologies if I am jumping ahead of the narrative; it seemed like we were getting out of the tunnel as a next step. I'm actually putting my next planned action in spoilers now that I think about it)
To be read once we are out of the tower:
Down the stairs and out of the building, Tamryn pulls together the crew before they return to Nyblond. "My friends, I am grateful that you've taken this journey with me. I'm afraid I must quickly return to Lady Dannihyr's prior to our return to the Farm but I'll see you in a couple of hours. I have a few favors to ask. First, if you have a means, please copy those documents before you give them to Nyblond. It strikes me as rather convenient that someone arrived to help us who both knows the secrets of the Circle and the Serpents. It's just a suspicion, but be careful with him. Second, please take this money and give it to Nara. I rather suspect that the clerk saw through our disguise and asking around about the Orcs will lead to our activities at her bar. It may all be my fault, but I think she is compromised. Please give her this and ask her to, at least, leave town for a few weeks." He hands Mina 100 gp. "Finally, if I don't return in time, I'm dead. Don't come looking for me. It has been wonderful to have you as my friends and colleagues. I hope to see you soon."
With that he rushes out with his pouch of gruesome gifts and looks for a cab to take him 3/4 of the way to Lady Dannihyr's.
As you warily operate the lever that opens the secret exit from the stairwell, you hear many voices shouting. Exiting from behind the facade which hides the door, you see squads of city guards running about, many dead bodies of cartel members on the grounds, and smoke billowing out from the third floor above you. Crowds have gathered across the street, staring and pointing at the tower. Alarm bells are ringing somewhere, and voices are shouting to turn off the magical wards so that fire-fighting crews and magic-users can enter the upper levels of the building.
(You may attempt to question someone if you wish).
As you head away from the tower, no one seems to take much notice of you. Does the party go straight to Nyblond's chapel, or follow Tamryn, or somewhere else?
Also, haven't really been keeping track of time that well, but those of you with disguise self spells notice that they are visibly flickering and may shut down at any moment.
Akyan glances at Lyndaran, "I understand your argument, but I agree with Jhaartael here. If we stay any longer we will be overwhelmed. We can start another fire on our way out."
