So, everyone minus Tamryn can meditate before Spar comes out at 10 AM, unless you all want to knock on his door and bring him out earlier.
Timeline:
5:30 AM All but Tamryn arrive at safehouse
8:00 AM Tamryn arrives
10:00 AM Spar comes out unless summoned earlier
12:30 Teleport scheduled.
Whenever you speak with Spar, which details of the night's events do you share with him and/or the other dwarves? (for example, does he know about the Nightmare? The half-orcs you impersonated? The people you encountered inside the tower? Nyblond? Nyla and her entourage? The fire? The offer from Lady Dannihyr?)
((I would say that we wait for Spar and fill him, and any other dwarf that wants to be there, in all the things that transpired last night but that’s Lyndaran opinion and will respect the will of the majority of the party)
Kyrsa will wait until Spar comes out to debrief, not wanting to intrude on his personal time--especially after what Mollie said about him. She also realizes that it would be good for them to wait for Tamryn anyways, and Lyndaran as well if he isn't already back from the Nightmare.
When the time does come to debrief, she tells everything in detail. Where they went, what went right, what went wrong, how they met Nyblond and what they did for him (and the documents she painstakingly memorized on the spot), ect. The only details that she leaves out are those concerning Mina's brother, as she doesn't see that as part of their mission and doesn't want to reveal anything about that unless Mina says she is comfortable with it.
Jhaartael is absent mindedly in the library, so probably misses the disclosure to Spar unless called in for details. If this happens, he will mention the Libram they found, but will not offer more about the Nightmare in case we wanted to keep some secrecy around that as a security measure. He also will not disclose Nyblond's familiarity with his sister in front of the others. If it seems meet, he will disclose that to Spar in private.
(OK, that's everyone but Mina, we'll proceed assuming she does not mention her brother to Spar. This can be retconned in the future if desired.)
Spar comes out midmorning, and prepares some bacon and flapjacks for a late breakfast. There is enough to share, and as you sit around the table, the twins join you, as does Annika. Rigel and Duncan are out picking up some groceries and scouting a location for a raid.
You begin your tale with the pursuit of Aeric, tracking him to his ship, encountering the odd-couple ghosts, and finally interrupting the ritual where he was trying to enslave the spirit of his adopted daughter. The dwarves listen wide-eyed, and it is apparent they are uneasy and inexperienced in dealing with this sort of undead. Even Spar looks a little uncertain about a safehouse guarded by restless spirits. Jhaartael does not make an appearance, but Spar does not comment on his absence.
Jhaartael had intended to go out and join the others, but every time he thought about mentioning the Libram to Spar, he felt uneasy, his mind would become clouded and distracted, and he would become absorbed in some other book or periodical and forget his intention.
From there you describe your reconnaissance of the tower, eavesdropping on and following the half-orcs to the tavern, and Jhaartael having met another elf and bringing him along. Funny thing, though, you all seem to be having trouble remembering the elf's name. Or his face. It is as if your minds just slide right past any interaction with your new acquaintance but can gain no traction, and the scene never comes into focus as it speeds by your mind's eye. Spar arches an eyebrow at the obvious gap in details, but does not interrupt as you continue. You describe the infiltration of the tower, including the secret staircase, but are unable to recall exactly how you knew about it. Spar nods as you describe the Boss you faced on the third level, but when he asks why you went into his office instead of just setting the fire and leaving, you are unable to formulate a coherent reply to this question.
Spar frowns and sits back in his chair, arms folded, remaining silent. As he looks at each of you wordlessly, Jhaartael emerges from his quarters, and enters the common room looking for something to quench his thirst. As an aside, as he walks past toward the kitchen, he queries, "Did you all remember to tell Spar about Nyblond? What a fortuitous meeting..."
Every dwarf in the room gasps audibly, and their heads whip around to stare at Jhaartael. "What?" the wizard replies defensively.
Spar hold out his hand toward his team, waving them into continued silence. "Jhaartael, please follow me to my quarters, I have some private questions I must ask you. Now."
The dwarven fighter leads you to his private quarters that are sparsely furnished, with a cot and an oil lamp on a desk with a sturdy wooden chair. A wardrobe in a corner and a wooden chest at the foot of the cot are the only other furnishings. Spar closes the door behind him, seats himself on the chest, and waves at you to take the chair and face him.
"That name you mentioned... Nyblond. Where did you hear it? What fortuitous meeting? Please tell me your own version of tonight's events, and especially tell me about this elf you met, at the tavern perhaps? Or just before? Can you remember this?"
(Jhaartael does in fact remember the events and persons encountered during the evening with perfect clarity. You do not need to actually write out everything that happened, just indicate if you give the complete story, or if you leave anything significant out.)
Seeing Spar's concern he asks to have his raven with him. Being alone with the dwarf and his raven familiar, Jhaartael takes a moment. He then turns to his raven and relates out loud to the familiar how he came upon Nyblond's shrine, how he passed the sign/countersign, how although Jhaartael was disguised Nyblond knew him to be an elf. How the cleric seemed to know Jhaartael 's sister. He relays all the rest about Nyblond to the best of his ability.
Artaquetië listens patiently, and as the wizard finishes, he cocks his head to one side and gives a quiet squawk.
((Removed the bit about always being disguised in front of Nyblond as I found the post where Jhaartael exposed himself))
((Using the raven as an intermediary to circumvent any magic preventing me to tell you.Telling the raven is almost like telling myself. ;-) ))
Akyan doesn't say much about their experience on the Nightmare, he'd be happy if he could completely forget about that experience. He doesn't blame Spar in the slightest for being skeptical about using the ship as a safehouse. The drow himself is certainly not comfortable with it, and will not be going there again unless absolutely necessary.
When it comes time to describe their mission at HQ, he does his best to try to fill in the blanks, only to frustrate himself when he finds that, for the most part, he can't. Why is it all so fuzzy? He had thought the mission had gone relatively well compared to their previous attempts, but when the dwarves start to question their actions, he starts doing so as well.
(Does Kyrsa at least remember the documents they took? Just asking since she got that 20 lol.)
Finding holes in her memory, Kyrsa grows frustrated. What had happened? Where had she and Jhaarteal been while Mina and the others went to Nyla and Tamryn left for his own mission? This doesn't make sense. Her frustration causes the blue in her hair to bleach to white, and the air around her grows a little frigid. Someone is messing with them, and she doesn't like it.
Lyndaran fights against the frustration that the gasp on his memories doesn’t allow him to complete the debriefing. Seeing the rest suffer the same thing he says “What’s going on?”
As you finish, Spar's head momentarily sinks into his hands. After a beat, he looks up at you and says, "This is unexpected and I don't know what is going on, and that worries me immensely. Nyblond is known to us, meaning the Circle, but was thought to be dead. If this really was he, and not some illusion, then this must be investigated and reported immediately. And I fear that some new attack is in the works."
Spar steps to the door and opens it. "Annika!" he shouts, "Go and retrieve Duncan and Rigel immediately. Tell Duncan to request emergency exfiltration as soon as you all can get back here. Go! Millie and Mollie! Up on the roof, watch ground and skies for approaching hostiles!"
Turning back to face Jhaartael, he says, "Someone with intimate knowledge of the Circle has caused a presumed-dead elf to reappear, and has erased the memories of everyone on your team except yours. This is beyond my ken, but we need to get to a more defensible position. This reeks of Team One's stench. I'll not be standing around waitin' for dragons to burn the place down. Get your team ready for immediate transport! And another thing... any of you may be compromised, either a traitor or be under the influence of some charm or geas. I advise you to not let anyone be alone. Watch each other, and trust no one except Aldara."
And with that, he starts to buckle on armor and weapons.
The twins immediately jump off the couch, grab their weapons and race down the hall to an upward leading ladder that ends at a ceiling trapdoor. Annika's door flies open, and she sprints for the basement exit, still pulling on her jacket, her cannon dangling by a strap as she runs to the entrance to to the tunnel under the street.
(Does Kyrsa at least remember the documents they took? Just asking since she got that 20 lol.)
Kyrsa remembers every smudge of ink, every digit in every column in that document, and could reproduce it if she had quill and ink. She remembers that it was in the safe, and that it proves (or was cleverly created to prove) Lady Viper's guilt in defrauding the rest of the Cartel. She just doesn't have a clue why she was looking for it, or what happened to the document.
Jhaartael nods gravely. Stepping through the door behind Spar, he does not hesitate to follow the aged warrior's order. He looks at his team and says, "To the teleport circle. We are moving out. Now." He stands for a moment making sure all of the team start to move towards the circle, and follows in dignified haste.
Mina let's the others recount what is going on and as they others fumble with their memory, she attempts to fill in the wholes and realizes she has them too. She was thinking about letting Spar know about her findings on Thamior, but the business with Nyblond and the memory loss pushes all that aside. Especially once Spar has his conversation with Jhaartael.
When Jhaartael says it is time to go, she takes him to the side and asks, "What was said between you and Spar? What is going on? Why are the dwarves moving like this? Are we no longer safe? Was it something we did?" Her eyes grow wider as the thought that they put the dwarves in danger crosses her mind.
(ok, I just wanted to be sure. She would have told Spar all about that so that he at least knows exactly what they retrieved, even if she doesn't know why she got it she realizes that it could potentially help them figure out what the person responsible for the memory wipe was after.)
Hearing Spar's order to Annika Kyrsa immediately snaps to attention, "Emergency exfiltration? What is going on?"
If the dwarf doesn't answer, or even if he does, as soon as he leaves Kyrsa turns to Jhaarteal, "What did he want with you? ...if you are cleared to speak of it that is. Please fill us in. Who is Nyblond and why did his name cause such a reaction from Team 2?"
Tamryn is disgusted at his memory loss. The only one allowed to play with his memories was he himself. He stops for a moment and makes sure he can still see her smile. If he can, he then springs to action. "My friends," he says, "if this safehouse is compromised, then we are endangering our friends by staying. They seem to be able to take care of themselves, let's teleport away before we bring more trouble upon them." He starts to walk toward the teleportation circle. But then he stops. He says, "Everyone, it occurs to me that if our memories have betrayed us, our possessions might as well. Before we teleport, perhaps it behooves us to go through our belongings and make sure that nothing new has attached itself to us. I would hate to be the cause of another attack on the Farm." With that, he takes off his backpack, quiver, and pouches and starts going through them looking for anything new or unknown to him. Anything he remembers acquiring here in town. If he finds nothing, he'll put them back on after checking the pockets of his trousers and vest. He also looks over the others, trying to find anything new or that he didn't remember them using before.
Akyan remains in his room until the group talks to Spar.
