"I will take you!! And I will make you eat rotten eggs!! You will never kiss anyone!!! EVER!!" threaten the child ghost using Lyndaran's mouth to Kyrsa.
Upon hearing Jhaartael's booming voice, the two possessed elves cease their struggling. After a moment, Barty's muffled voice floats out from underneath Mina.
"Wot's that ye say? 'Free us' from our feud? Wot do that mean?... Lorna, wot's 'e sayin'?"
The child-spirit replies with Lyndaran's lips: "I dunno Barty. After two decades, this is getting kinda boring. You're not really a challenge anymore. I've killed you like three hundred times already."
Directing herself to Jhaartael: "Alright Mr. Smarty-pants, what are you suggesting? And don't try to trick me... I know I look nine years old, but I've been nine for twenty freakin' years, so do not give us false hope or so help me, I'll haunt you every night 'til you go mad from lack of sleep."
Barty's voice mutters faintly, "It's only been two hunnerd fifty, tops..."
Jhaartael speaks slowly and carefully to the spirits, "Lorna, Barty, I am Jhaartael. You are spirits caught after your death. This usually happens when a spirit has some unfinished business. The good thing is that you are alive as spirits, so you will continue, but you should not be trapped here. Yet, I imagine you are limited in your ability to interact with the world at large. I propose the following. Give us back our compatriots and let us all work to reconcile your unfinished business. What do you think is keeping you here? Can we avenge your deaths? Help to fulfill something you were attempting? Get messages to loved ones? Anything else? Let us be your partners in ensuring your eternal freedom from this haunt."
(Temp pause to initiative order, but if someone wants to keep fighting, go ahead)
There is silence for a few seconds as the ghosts consider Jhaartael's words. Then, the two apparitions both emerge, releasing Akyan and Lyndaran from possession. Barty, still fearful that this is a trick of some kind, immediately shifts to the Ethereal plane.
Lorna, hovering in the midst of you, says, "Aeric. He's what's keeping us here. Our deaths were avenged long ago, because Barty and I killed each other on the same day. And many, many times since then. No, Aeric did some kind of ritual after we died that bound our spirits to him. In fact, he's in that room now, doing the same ritual to get a new ghost buddy. I guess someone died recently that he wants to keep around, involuntarily. Slavers! At any rate, I suspect we cannot be released until he is dead."
Lyndaran's body falls to the ground and as he kneels on one knee as he hears the ghost words.
"We came here to kill him you morons... Help us or step aside. But never... never take me as your play toy."he says looking to the children ghost.
"You alright?" he asks to his other possesed friend as he stands.
"Try to learn if killing him is enough or you need to do some magical stuff with him before I put an arrow on his chest..."he says to Jhaartael while turnign around to look for his bow. "Goodness I do hate slavers..." the rest can hear him mumbling as he looks for his bow.
Barty phases back in. "Back when I were captain, Aeric were me cabin boy. I were rather fond o' him, as I recall. Later, on one voyage we had some kinda voodoo priestess in t' hold, and he made friends wif 'er. I guess she taught 'im a thing er two."
Here's the background info I gave Frandal and Rynn to RP the ghosts if anyone is interested:
The two ghosts died as enemies on the same day, twenty years ago. They each contributed to the other's death. Their souls were somehow brought back as ghosts, and are somehow bound to Aeric, but you do not know how. For years, the ghosts fought, but could never really harm each other. Lately, they have taken to fighting by possessing intruders that wander onto the ship, and engaging in vicarious battles through them. Also, after all the years of hate, they now have a sort of begrudging friendship, but they still want to beat each other to a pulp.
Lorna is a 9 year old girl who grew up on a farm. Her mother died on the ship. She blamed Barty for her mother's death, which is why she shoved him off the ship (he couldn't swim).
Barty was a pirate captain for years after giving up his life as an actual butcher in a small town. He is not bloodthirsty by nature, but he loves dressing and talking like a pirate. As he fell off the ship, he threw a dagger at Lorna which killed her.
Lorna and Barty have really only had each other for company for the last twenty years, with Aeric occasionally forcing them to do something for him, like guarding his ship. So, while they still hate each other sort of, they're also the only person they have to talk to, so they are sort of friends too.
Jhaartael thanks the spirits for releasing his comrades, "I know that it must be frustrating. Thank you for agreeing to work with us rather than against us."
Then to Lyndaran, "I do not know what magic he is doing, but it sounds vaguely religious in nature." Turning back to Lorna and Barty he asks, "Do you know, will killing Aeric release you or is there something we need to do or have him do first?"
Finally, back to the party, "I think it best we at least interrupt his current ritual as quickly as possible. As we go in there, attack his ritual more than him. Break circles, move or unlight candles, take away totems. anything to stop his ritual. Bringing his girl back as a ghost will only hurt her."
Lorna snickers at Lyndaran's anger. "Oh, is the big bad elf scared of a little girl?... or just embarassed that he succumbed to her so easily?"
To Jhaartael, she answers, "I'm not sure how we could help you. We are compelled to obey any direct commands he gives us. If he tells us to attack you, we will have no choice. I don't know for sure if his death will send us to the afterlife, but at least he won't be able to boss us around anymore."
Barty, now bored by the conversation, is amusing himself by floating down through the floor and back up again behind random party members and tapping them on the shoulder, startling them.
Mina turns to slap Barty as he taps her on the shoulder, frustration boiling inside of her as everything is discussed. Realizing that now was the time to attack.. she starts heading towards the door where Aeric is.
“Just angry that you had fallen into the same pit as the salvers that kidnapped and killed you, making others do your bidding.” Lyndaran sighs “but I guess you didn’t had the chance to know better. “
He listens to what she says to Jhaartael. “Then make sure to be as far of him as you can so he cannot command you anything. If killing him doesnt free you we will se how to do it.”
Lyndaran notches and arrow on his shortbow.
“Let’s kill this bastard before he bonds the woman you killed to him”
Akyan pushes himself up off the floor. Then glares at Barty, "If you're not going to be any help, then I'd suggest that you get as far away from here as possible. We don't want you interfering with our mission any more than you already have."
Standing up, he flexes his hands as if making sure that he's really back in control of his body, then picks up his rapier, sheaths it then angrily brushes past the ghost to follow Mina. He's clearly trying to act collected and ignore the ghosts farther, but his motions are a bit stiff as if anticipating something. That experience was even worse than when Duncan had searched his memories. He's not sure what he would have done if the ghost had been successful in making him kill Lyndaran. Frown deepening as he continues to try to forget about what just transpired (and not rub his nose), and focus on the task at hand.
If this is the same room we were trying to get too, Akyan will warn Mina of the traps. Assuming Lyndaran didn't set them all off. Then he will avoid them, and try to investigate the door. (I think Tamryn already did this but Akyan doesn't know that.)
The only trap you detected previously, the pressure plate, triggered a large fishing net to drop down. The net is now on the floor, there do not appear to be any more traps.
The door to the area where Aeric is supposedly located has a handle, but no lock. It is barred shut from the other side. The door is made from thick wooden planking reinforced with iron bands. It would take a lot of damage before it came down by brute force.
Barty phases back into the Ethereal as Mina's slap passes through him, cackling gleefully. When Akyan scolds him he mutters to himself, and floats off, disappearing through the wall on the far side of the hold.
Clearly frustrated Lyndaran thinks a little bit and says
"Maybe we ca go back up use our ropes and try to enter that section of the ship by using the gun ports at the side of the ship. Unless you have a way to open this quickly.."
After Lyndaran is un-possessed, Kyrsa loosens her hold on him but makes sure that he is able to stand before fully releasing him. She lets out a quiet sigh of relief, silently thanking the gods that Jhaarteal was able to think of a way to fix the situation. The gods know she hadn't had a clue as to what to do.
When the ghosts tell them that Aeric is conducting another ritual, her eyes widen. More then likely Lyndaran was correct in assuming that the slaver was trying to bring back that girl...she must have meant a lot to him. Yet, Kyrsa couldn't help but be angry about it. If she had a way to bring back all the people she'd lost, she would do anything to bring them back...yet this seemed so wrong. Binding her to him? As if that was anything for the girl to look forward to. This was just so wrong and twisted.
"Yes, lets hurry up and get in there," she growls. Looking down at Lorna, she says, "Don't assume I've forgiven you for what you just tried to do. But, I am sorry for whatever you have gone through. Rest assured that we will give this slaver exactly what he deserves. If killing him doesn't release you, we will find someone who can."
She nods to Lyndaran, "I doubt we can get through this door with any sort of efficiency. So lets try your plan." She looks to the trap door, "Does anyone have extra rope? We used mine to hold that door open. ...Though there might not be any reason to keep it that way if we can't get into that room from here."
As they prepare to enter the room, she approaches Akyan, "Are you alright?"
“We can’t get in fast enough through there,” Kyrsa explains. “We are going to try and get through the gun ports on the sides…unless you think that won’t work.” She realizes that the ghosts know the ship just as well as Aeric does…if not better. “Do you know of another, quicker and more sure, option?”
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Lorna winks and says, "All you had to do was ask...." She floats through the door, and you hear the bar being released on the other side. She floats back through, quickly, with her fingers plugging her ears. "I don't think he noticed me, but I didn't want to risk him telling me to do something," she says. "Good Luck!" She then rushes to the opposite end of the ship to join Barty.
"I will take you!! And I will make you eat rotten eggs!! You will never kiss anyone!!! EVER!!" threaten the child ghost using Lyndaran's mouth to Kyrsa.
