Sam sees the beast falls and takes a breath to calm his own self then turns and walks over to the tree. Sam is looking to inspect the tree, see what kind of state it is in, if anything seems off about it, is it petrified or normal wood, etc. He's also looking to see if he could figure a way into toppling the thing. He'd had a notion that perhaps the two beasts might be big enough to maybe pull it out of the ground but that option is obviously dead...
Muir sighs losing both dwarves and a beast. “I was hoping to get answers and mounts….” Muir turns to the skies and yells “Hello up there! I mean you no harm. Please come down and speak with me”
Elthana breathes easier once Gewyn puts the beast to bed and calls Gust back over to her. Stroking the air horse's nose, she looks to Sam, "The beast was trying to eat me, I wasn't about to just let it. I get it, you want to see if they can be mounts. Be my guest. I am not going to put myself or anyone in danger for you to try out a theory."
She walks over to Iver, Gust at her heels, "Are you doing alright?" she asks as she keeps her eyes to the sky, wondering what kind of creature that bird fellow is and hopes he doesn't turn on them all the sudden.
Elthana puts her hands on her hips as she glares at Sam, "What do you mean the damn mutt is leading us now? She had nothing to do with my decision to defend myself! And now, feel free, no one is stopping you!"
The anger flaring up inside of her surprises her, she doesn't usually let someone get under her skin. She tries to ignore the situation and turns back to Iver to see how he's doing.
As the hostiles are all dead or incapacitated for now, the bird creature swoops down a little to be more heard by the group, he does not put his bow away, but draws another arrow toward the sleeping beast, "you all surely collection of strange warriors, and this is strange place, soft ground... but beast only sleeps, give Griff reason to not end it? For when it wake, are you being prepared to fight once more?"
Sam observes the tree, it is quite petrified, similar to the trees he has seen in the past, used up and no longer active after something, presumably the pale dwarves and their mounts, came through.
Elthana greets Iver and sees that he has been keeping his and Muir's horse safe, as well as the spare one. Iver greets her back, happy that things have calmed but obviously still concerned and confused by the presence of the flying bird person.
Myir continuing to look up at the bird man “Griff you said your name was? I am Muir! Please if you are from the same world as this creature come down and tell us more. We are hoping to use the beast as a mount and ally. Perhaps you could tell us more and help us.”
Nodding his head in satisfaction as the beast slumps to the ground, Gewyn listens to the conversation from afar. He wheels his horse around to get a good look at the carriage next to him, in order to confirm his suspicions. "Hey guys, a beast like that'll be hard to bring through really any town we come across. You know what wouldn't be hard to ride through on?"He knocks on the wood of the carriage next to him. "Our old wheels, looking no worse for wear. Which is good, because I'm pretty sure this thing was on lease. So if we are looking for convenient and comfortable transport, we've got to get this back to Marblestead anyway. And if what we want is a volatile murder-pet, we've already-" He looks at Nef's expression and considers his wording. "-we'll make do."
He looks at the bird man. "That is not, of course, permission to kill the beast in its slumber without first weighing our options, Griff. Pleased to meet you, by the way. Do you enjoy music?"
Vin looks over to Griff as Elthana shouts a warning. He just sighs in disappointment that they couldn't save as many as they wanted. Knowing there isn't much he can do Vin turns to Griff and says " Hello, I guess now is good a time as any to introduce myself. I'm Vin. If you need a reason not to attack, the green man says he can handle it. It would be rude to deny him a chance to try. Think of it as a way to show his warrior spirit. He's also very strong. He can handle it if it gets out of hand." Vin then looks to Nef who seems to huff in response and goes back to eating the leg she torn off the other one.
As Sam voices that Nef is in charge she just huffs and seems to muse on the idea. Then takes another bite as if making a point. when Gewyn calls Nefer a volatile murder-pet she seems to think on it then nods and goes back to eating. Apparently approving of the description.
Nef if you have Speak with animals:
To Sam: "What? There's another one. It's even sleeping now. You won't tame it though. Not unless it is just a dumb beast with no sense of loyalty. I will enjoy watching you try."
To Gewyn: "....hmmm... not inaccurate. luckily for you all I'm a volitile murder-pet of Vin's."
Vin then looks to Elthana and says "They are an arakocra and I don't believe they will attack us. They are a warrior race but not known to just attack randomly. I am unsure what they are doing here though." He looks back to Griff and ask, "I'm sorry, I've only read of your amazing people so I'm not very familiar with your customs. If we make a mistake or accidently do something offensive please let us know so we can learn. For now, may I ask what happened to bring you to blows with the dwarves?"
"Gewyn has a point. Not sure what to do with it now? Sam? Muir?" Elthana looks to see what Gewyn is talking about with carriages and is shocked to see their old one! "Is it.. is it road worthy? Hasn't been beaten all the hell like the rest?"
She leaves Iver's side when she sees he is alright to go check out the carriage with Gewyn.
When Vin calls down to her, "Interesting, well, not attacking us is good. Why you both come down to the ground so we can all meet them properly."
Sam wanders over to the subdued beast and, with a large sigh, swings his maul with the intention of putting it out of its misery. He’s aiming for a skull shot between the eyes, hoping yo stun it if he doesn’t kill it on the first shot. Perhaps the idea was impractical from the get go but having two of these beasts to carry Muir and himself may have made the effort worthwhile… but to be practical, they had places to be and didn’t have time to be spending days trying to retrain the one remaining beast.
Just before Sam takes his swing, Griff responds to the slew of questions he is getting,
"I not from this place, I not from place with such odd beast either, or little mens. I was flying patrol, called to investigate strange light off land from my home, is not normal, before I know what is happening, I cannot stop fly through light, like light pull me through, then am here.
I fly around try find out what happen, when I find beast and little men, they hostile and attack, but I prepared, I kill little man, I injure strange beast, they cannot attack, Griff is too fast and skilled, also they cannot fly, great disadvantage for stupid beast. Then you come here and fight, is impressive but strange.
I like music, yes, there is much music where I from."
As Vin suggests Griff gives Sam the chance to prove his warrior skills, this seems to relax the Aarakocra, he nods to vin and then flaps down landing near Muir, shuddering slightly as his taloned feet touch snow.
Muir takes not that different creatures have come through Sam's trees each from a different Kingdom. He then shouts above "Perhaps you can fly down so I don't have to shout...We can take a seat and chat?! If not can you tell me the name of the realm you came from?"
After inspecting the tree and resigning himself to putting this beast down fully, Sam moves his way around to the head of the beast where he can deliver the most damage. With a full swing Sam's maul comes crashing down splitting the beasts beak like face and sending shard and bloody globules flying out from the point of impact. Instantly the injured beast opens its eyes, Gewyn's spell broken. It roars out in pain and rage, preparing itself to attack to its last breath.
Griff already standing next to Muir, and scratching the snow off the ground like a chicken answers, "I from Thaeir, specifically Akiin kingdom, I senior guard at arms, what call you this realm? With it mass of giant soft land, where is edge? Where is wind?"
With a roar dying down, the beast seems to succumb to the wound inflicted upon it by Sam, and it crumbles as the half orc doesn't flinch at its last dying cry.
Vin follows Griff down as the both fly and land near Muir. Vin looks sadly at the dead dwarf but tries not to dwell on it and focuses back on the birdfolk. The sudden impact and death of the last creature seems to confuse Vin as he looks over to see Sam suddenly change his mind and he kills the defenseless creature. Vin seems like he's going to ask why but Nef seems to look in his direction when Sam kills it and seems to say something to Vin. Vin just closes his eyes a moment seeming to be struggling internally. Not mad but just breaths deeply, opens his eyes, and turns back to Griff as the birdman begins to explain where he is from. Vin nods to the warrior and says "I believe you are not in your world anymore. This is Northmorrah. Everything will probably be quite different here and not what you expect. I... don't know if you've been struggling with what has been happening in our world but recently gates have been opening up into other worlds like yours and connecting here. We don't know why. It's a recent development."
Nef words to Vin:
To Vin: "He decided to kill it. It was his choice. Leave him be."
there seems to be a reply that can't be heard and then Nef says
"I not know this Northmorrah" Griff begins as he watches the last beast succumb to its wounds with a certain level of satisfaction. "Maybe light was gate and I fly through, are you knowing how to get back?" Curiously, as the bird observes the group, his beady eyes linger on Elthana and her summoned horse, with a keen interest.
Elthana notices the birdman's eyes upon her and her horse. She hangs back as the others chat with Griff. She isn't sure what to think of him and she has no idea how to get him back. She looks around the area as she waits to see what is going to happen next.
