Neferox seems eager to fight with Sam. Her eyes begin to glow red in anticipation. She's ready for another fight as she begins to sit up from her meal. However, Vin is not. As Sam and the avian begin to fight, slinging accusations, lies and threats Vin tries to quickly think of a way to diffuse the situation. Vin sees it spiral out of control so fast as a being from another world, confused and unsure what is happening is being accosted like an enemy. Not once but twice in their world. As Muir confronts Sam Vin heads to speak with the Avian, hoping to keep a hand of friendship out for some of them if not all. Vin will try to get their attention, either stepping into their sight or lightly tapping their shoulder but only if they have to, ideally just by getting between he two with Muir and facing Griff he can get his attention, "Griff, an accusation of theft is a very serious thing to say. Like how I asked for understanding for your culture I want to give you understanding as well. Accusing of theft is similar to saying someone is dishonorable. It is a very serious thing to say which is why our friend Sam is ready to defend our friend's honor. If you think about it would you even respect him if he didn't leap to his friend's honor? The worlds are getting weirdly mixed with these gates. I have no idea where it her horse came from. I'm sure she didn't either. It is something that can help up figure out what is going on though so she used it, unknowing of it's origin. What do you do when you go out adventuring and discover magical items that have no evidence of having an owner?"
Griff scoffs at Sam and then completely ignores him, not rising to the bait, as he looks somewhat confused toward Vin, he unsheathes a crystal longsword and then asks the boy, "if she is finding horse then I am not understanding why she dodge question when I ask if gift or not? I not accuse I ask, her answer suspicious, her answer like thief! and green man child defend honour? He not even understand situation, this escalated by girl first, but I happy to end questions, talk with blade instead"
Elthana sits in her tree working on calming down. She knows her anger isn't helping anything. But she was already mad, and then this creature called her a thief? She just had to get away before she did something she regretted. She knows she tended to act first and ask questions later, hell, that's why she sat in this tree, but also knew things were different at the moment, very strange.
She listens to Muir and can see the weight he is carrying on his shoulders as he attempts to get the group to understand. She kind of did? She looks down at Gust, sighs, then mumbles and the air horse disappears. She figures its presence was causing part of the issue. Muir's desperation finally gets through to her and she feels she is level headed enough to join the conversation. As she jumps down, she almost feels childish that she ran away in the first place.
As she joins the group, she didn't know from her perch the intensity of the situation and how close things were to blows. She holds her hands up and looks directly at Neferox. "Hang on, we just fought side by side, I'm sure we can discuss this without more bloodshed. I apologize for my action, I was angry and worried I would escalate the problem so I took myself out of it. Apparently, it happened anyways."She gives a side glance to Sam, with the twitch of a smile.
Griff looks at Elthana as she returns, and throws his hands up in the air in a kind of exasperated fashion, as if to say 'finally' "here now, if I can get answer then question can continue yes? No accuse, nothing... just question, where did you get horse? Is important to my culture, perhaps you important to my culture too, huh?"
Muir follows Elthana and stands with her nodding at her in a thankful manner "Let's start over please. We cannot go around killing everything or everyone we see that doesn't belong here. These portals opening up here are going to continue. We cannot have all the others worlds and realms coming here for vengeance. So please let's start over. Grif asked about the horse. It seems the horse is from his realm just like Gewyn's mirror has a tie to the Fae. Let's work together. I know how to get Griff home and where another portal is. Please everyone, Vin get a hold of Nef, Sam get a hold of yourself. Grif sheathe your sword. We will make camp as Iver suggested, break bread with one another and answer questions....I find that food makes cooperation easier and moods happier. What do you all say?"
Elthana sighs, glad it didn't come to blows, but still just wanting to camp and not deal with everything.
She looks to Muir, "The horse?" then turning to the birdman, she answers, "It was a gift. And as you said, apparently that is common among your folks? I did not steal it, I am not royalty, but I cherish it, and the person who gave it to me."
She turns back to Muir, "How do we get Griff home? Where is the other portal?"
“And why can’t we just go around killing all these invaders?” Sam angrily replies to Muir, not taking his eyes off the armed birdman.
“From all we’ve learned so far it seems we only get the dregs of what these other realms have to offer. Except for the geonids every one of them has been hostile and murderous. This bird brain had killed the dwarf before we arrived, for all we know they were just defending themselves from this one. Seems likely what with them killing them even after we tried to revive them.. leave no witnesses, eh?” Sam insists as he continues walking towards the feathered one.
“He’s called Elthana a thief. He’s likened me to a beast. He laid out a challenge now is trying to weasel out of fighting me by brandishing a weapon at the kid…” Sam points out, feeling his anger is quite justified.
“Our fine feathered friend here needs to drop his weapons, apologize to the lady and myself, and stop acting all aggrieved as if he’s not the one intruding into our realm… cause frankly I don’t care about these other realms or what they think. Hells, they likely won’t even know where he went when he never returns.. “
"is great gift, only given to lords of my realm, if person who gave you this got it from a Djinni, then they must cherish you too. As promised, is your turn for question" Griff says to Elthana,
As Muir tries to calm the situation, Griff lowers the sword but doesn't sheathe it, "blade goes away when green man calms emotion outburst, though is no necessary tool to put him in place.
But if you know where portal to my home is, I can go, leave this soft ground realm behind."
"Muir knows nothing and if he does it is something he should share with the rest of us before blathering to strangers," Sam says, still closing the distance between the bird man and himself.
"I'll repeat one last time for the hollow of mind as well as of bone... Drop the weapon, apologize to the woman and apologize to me... Or you and me, little birdie? We're going to dance..." Sam walks right up into the bird man. They would be nose to nose (assuming birdman doesn't move) if Sam didn't (presumably) tower over them. As it is Sam steps right up into bumping the other creature and stands there up against them, leaning over so that he can talk down to them. And then Sam waits... In as intimidating and looming manner as he can. ((Intimidation roll just in case you want it: 7 - Sam is not that intimidating? lol, or I just cannot roll for the sake of whatever...))
Intimidating or not, Sam waits. And looms. But he is not unaware of the entreaties of the others. Sam wants this fight by this point, but he doesn't want to be the one who technically threw the first punch...
Griff doesn't flinch as Sam approaches and attempts to intimidate him, "you are being fighting with words, but it seem you are as unskilled at that as you are being with understanding, I not apologising for your stupidity, so dancing with me if you dare, but you should know first how to properly insult hmm?" Griff then spouts some words that are in a language no one here understands, full of 'shh' and thh' sounds it is reminiscent of the wind, Griff's words seem to be laced with magic and rock through Sam's mind, though it doesn't take hold as Sams rage won't let him hear it, with that Griff jumps up into the air stretching his wings wide he flaps once and raises himself to 50ft into the air.
Gewyn looks down disappointedly from his perch on the carriage and declares firmly, "I tried to give you benefit of the doubt Sam. But now, I suggest you remember your position as a representative for Marblestead. Our actions here can be perceived a direct diplomatic response. So I strongly encourage you to put your duty and your people ahead of your personal anger and stand down from this fight."
Action: Suggestion (Sam must make a DC 16 Wisdom save)
Reaction: If Sam saves, Gewyn will cast silvery barbs to make him reroll the save, and he will give the advantage to Muir.
Sam releases the bird. Sam then turns his head towards Gewyn and... growls? It is apparent he is not happy.
((Or Sam does this when his turn comes up? Not sure Suggestion gives Sam the ability to do anything out of turn... However DM wishes to play it is cool.))
Neferox quickly got up and looked ready to tear the birdman into multiple bite sized pieces as soon as they drew their weapon on Vin. As she makes her way over Elthana gets in the hound's way to stop them. The black hound growling menacingly her red eyes glaring at the bird and then at Elthana. She growls more but this time directed at Elthana as if warning her.
Nef:
"I will tear that bird apart! It'll taste like chicken I bet. Huh? What? Elthana move! I will not be kept from protecting Vin. I will tear you apart as well. So, MOVE!"
Vin seeing Nef about to charge this prompts Vin to start backing away from the situation. He just backs away from the birdman. He doesn't want to fight so he backs up a bit in an attempt to get out of danger allowing Nef to relax as weapons start to get drawn. Those who know Vin would know he is likely communicating with the angry hound. This gives Sam the opportunity to move up and intimidate the birdman.
More Nef:
"Only because Sam can be trusted."
"Sam will kill them if they try anything."
As they fly off into the sky. Vin just lets them. If they fly off that is better then getting into another pointless fight. Neferox just eyes the birdman like a hungry predator. As Griff and Sam get into a tussle the big man suddenly grapples the aracokra preventing their escape. Vin is very relieved when Gewyn seems to be able to to at least deescalate Sam. To be safe, Vin gathers within him that new power ready to react and protect the next person attacked. He will try to prevent damage to the next person attacked. Vin looks to Griff as they are undoubtedly, and rightly so, upset "This isn't the time to fight. We should be making allies not enemies. We all need to understand why these portals are appearing. As such I apologize for things getting so out of hand. We do not seek to make enemies of your world. Enough blood was spilled already. I plan to continue to answer your questions if you want them answered. I understand you may not want to stay. If you want to, go and at least let us part on neutral terms."
Held action to cast barrier on next person attacked if any.
Griff, still caught in Sam's grasp for now, places a hand on Sam's shoulder and sends lightning dancing over Sam's rune inscribed armour, Vin's spell provokes and keeps the Half orc free from harm, all the while Griff continues his cawing laugh, readying himself to move up into the air the moment he is free. "Where is dance hm?"
Elthana glares at Griff when he shoots lighting to Sam, "Was that really necessary? I mean, do you want to fight? Is that it? Killing those dwarves wasn't enough to fulfill your bloodlust?"
Turning her back towards the annoying birdman, she looks at Sam, placing a hand on the arm that is outstretched to Griff, "I do not need an apology, he did not outright call me a thief, and even if he did, as Vin has mentioned we need to give leniency on the ways of culture. You don't know if he is the dreg of another realm or not, and it is not our right to dole out judgement."
She pauses, hoping her words are making an effect, "The dwarves were attacking us as well, this man,"she nods towards Griff, "Frustrating as he might be, didn't do the same as the dwarves, so why are you treating him the same? Take a breath, none of us are in danger, please stop."
And she turns to Griff, the softness in her eyes gone when she does, "That goes for you as well. You are not helping the situation. I came back to answer your questions, not to get into another fight."
Muir exasperated with Sam and his unwillingness to hear Muir out steps back towards a tree and removes himself from the situation. "If the two of you want to kill each other I will take no part in it. When you are ready to act like civilized members of society and this group then I will share with you what I know. However, if either of you dies, you can forget it."
Sam releases his grip on the birdman's neck. He then steps back one step and stands down from the fight. Having completed the [spell[]Suggestion[/spell] his turn is over.
Gewyn hops down off of the carriage and walks over to stand between Sam and Griff, holding his arms out. Locking eyes with Sam, he says "Let this be an opportunity for us to call this little squabble concluded and move on. Don't make me wrestle with you. It will not go well. For me, obviously. What little muscle I have is all for show. But..." Gewyn sighs. "If you are that determined to throw down with every planar interloper who disagrees with you, I've been around longer, so I should be the next in line."
Prepared action: If Sam tries to move around Gewyn to get to Griff, Gewyn will attempt to grapple.
