"Yes, I know WE'RE not related, Sam. I guess that one went over your head. And Rynwell's."
He turns to Vin. "Alright, it's all up to you out there. You are about to become the frontman for this group. I'm proud of you for stepping up, because it can't be me. I may be popular, and no stranger to the spotlight, but that just means if I go up there then this becomes Gewyn's show. And a task force led by a bard like me won't inspire the confidence that you can bring. You are young, bright, hopeful, and you don't have a cynical edge yet. You are someone the people can believe in. So you're gonna get out there and make us look good." Gewyn slaps him on the back lightly
Before too long the door opens, letting in the noise of crowds gathering outside the building and echoing down the marble halls, coming through the door us a guard in full plate armour, finely polished and gleaming, as they close the door and turn around, you all recognise the friendly face of Over, "hey guys! I got back yesterday and after my debrief I was put on your guard detail! Cool eh?" The more perceptible of the party would see bandages still covering his torso still poking out from under his breast plate, through the half elf seems to be moving s lot more easily than he was on the trip from Hokum, he also has another stripe on his shoulder. "My sister got the time off to visit off duty, so she'll be in the crowd, but there'll be a couple more guards along with me on your detail, so stick with is yeah? How is everyone?" The smile and excitement on his face is highly apparent and infectious.
Before Gewyn joins them, Elthana gives a slight grimace, "Good, thanks Muir. But this time, maybe keep your questions to a minimum? Though he does have many short comings, Mr. Hamilton is a leader in this city, and well, I do treat Goodall with respect, I would expect the same from you."
To Sam, "No, he has not, the um, way to Griff's home is kind of broken and we're working on fixing it. We are getting closer each time."
As Gewyn steps in the room, Elthana covers her mouth with her hand to stop herself from grinning too widely at the billowing cloak behind him. She nods at his compliment and is very glad they are all back together.
"It sounds like we all have some stories we are itching to share. Some more than others I'm sure." She looks down at this. But then to Vin, "You have something for me? Can I see it now, or does it have to wait?" Then shaking her head slightly, "Griff is fine, we're just struggling getting him home, but we'll get there."
As Ivor comes in, Elthana closes up again. She's happy to see he is alright and going to be escorting them, but she falls back silent.
"I thought it was always open? What went wrong with it and how?" Sam asks, or starts to anyway, but obviously the general consensus is that it's best left to discuss at a later time.
"Iver!" Sam calls out when they enter. "Why you old son of a gun! Look at you... Not looking too shabby there. Though there's really no reason you should be guarding us and not just a part of our entourage. You played as much a role in all this nonsense as anyone else..."
"But say, if you're our guard... Can you make sure we're not stuck at this shindig for too long?" Sam asks. "I don't think a one of us really wants to be here a minute longer than neccessary..."
Vin just manages to reply to Elthana before I've shows up. "It's a book of records but... I don't know what it pertains to or what it's used for. I got it back at the house. Was hoping you could tell me what all the numbers mean beyond just records of gold. I think someone was up to no good and has been hurting folks for a long time."
Iver walks in and at first Vin is surprised. He didn't thunk Iver would be able to continue as a guard but... here he is. Then Vin smiles hearing that he's part of their guard escort and Vin realizes that despite the injuries he's recovering. A wave of relief washes over him as he smiles and says "Iver. I'm really happy to see you. I was a bit... well... quiet when I left. I couldn't think of a better escort to have then you. Lets all uave some fun today. I imagine its not often you and Helena can make it to the city."
Iver's reinstatement to the work he enjoys does far more to help Vin feel happy then anything else. The nervousness of giving such a big speech seeming more a thing to look forward to now. Which reminds Vin as he says "Oh! Iver, I'm giving a big speech. I'm going to mention you. Is it alright to name you or do you prefer I don't? Just first name. Inwasnt going to name you but since i can ask you i will if you want."
"I'm happy to see you all too!" Iver grins at Vin, "and I'd love to be mentioned, full name Iver Pepper, it'll be a great boon for the Pepper family name. right then shall we be off?", without waiting too much for a response Iver exits, bringing the group with him.
As the group exits with Iver in the lead, two guards who were standing at the door begin walking woth the group too, following at the rear.
the echo down the corridor is louder now and as the group step out of the council building into the overcast winter afternoon, they see a throng of people bustling about and the faint strums of a band in full swing near the gates to the council district.
As each of the council members had warned, the group is let to mingle in the crowds under the watch of Iver and his guard. You partake in the sampling sweet treats from the stalls, toffees and preserved fruits. You see smaller stages with bands playing music and also games of luck or chance where the crowds are cheering and jeering at those who would go on up and try. The smell of spiced ales and warm roasts fills the air. The general feeling from the crowd is celebratory and joyous, revelling in the festivities on display, and before too long the light begins to fade. strings of decorated paper lanterns light up the market square and the festivities continue unabated until Iver rounds you all up and leads you to the main stage.
You head up some stairs into a guarded building adjacent to the stage, there is a room with refreshments set out and most of the council and their chosen plus ones are here mingling, speaking amongst themselves and grazing. others are already seated on a large balcony outside where a gang plank woth rail is connected to the main stage. The stage sits in front of the gates to the council district, north of the market square, and is raised up above the crowds to make it easier for everyone to see. Judge Tibus takes center stage and one guard, in robes instead of their traditional plate, hurries over to him and casts a spell touching his neck, Judge Tibus' voice rings out loud, magically enhanced.
"Welcome, welcome! citizens of Northmorrah, I do hope you are enjoying the festivities for our annual winter solstice celebration! there are several performances to cone as well as a presentation in light of the recent liberation of hokum. Now as many of you know, the grand pilgrimage that the clerics of Hermes, Qui Arbitranur have undertaken, has left us without their usual ritual tidings, but alas we are not one to stand in the way of religious practice and we hope they will return shortly and grace us with their good will. But as usual we wil open this ceremony with tye lighting of the bonfire, let its warmth welcome in the turning of this cold season and help us welcome in the new year. now please welcome to the stage, the wonderful musical talents of 'Whalesong'!" as the familiar band take to the stage and begin playing, the crowd starts moving, apparently widely accepting of Tibus' comments on the clerics. A large bonfire which has been constructed in the middle of the square is ignited, amd a wave of warmth settles over the dancing festival goers. It seems and odd juxtaposition for the group, as the last time they saw a bonfire in the middle of a market square it was under much less celebratory circumstances.
Sam... strays. Not very far or anything but he can't help wonder just how short a leash these guards escorting them think they have them on. He makes it a point to say hello to anyone he recognizes from the Tangles or even anyone he recognizes as being from the Tangles. Anyone he really knows he'll spend a minute or two with and introduce to the other members of the team. "Gewyn, you really should play one night at Junip's Tavern! You would put his place on the map and I am sure he'd give you drinks for life," or "If you're looking for more dresses, Elthana, you should come see Mairlinn in her shop some day. It's a little thing, blink and you'll miss it, but she has access to all the fabrics for a fraction of the price and her hand-tailoring will put anyone to shame!" All in all Sam is selling the group to the people of the Tangles as much he can, and the Tangles to the group.
Sam is also quite generous as he mingles, buying sweets for the kids, graciously losing preposterous bets with some of the older folk and all in all spreading some coin around. ((Say about 50ish gold spent. Can't go TOO overboard and seem like one of THOSE sorts!)) Sam buys plenty of rounds for gaggles of people but none for himself. He doesn't know how long this night may be forced to go on and he promised to be on his best behavior, after all.
The gregarious nature Sam showed while mingling with the people disappears entirely once they are escorted into the room with the council and their chosen plus ones. These are not Sam's people and Sam has little to say to any of them that would allow him to keep his promise. He is not rude by ignoring anyone, he makes his social graces known and politely enough answers any greetings or question, but to most Sam looks about as comfortable as a kid allowed to sit at the grown up table for the very first time but who very much wishes to go back and sit with the other kids and have fun.
Elthana raises her eyebrow on the description of the book Vin talks about, "Alright, yeah, let's look at that when we get back. I'll see if I can help."
The crowd overwhelms Elthana just as she knew it would. She does her best to hide in the shadows when their group isn't singled out. She's glad they haven't made the supposed presentations yet and she has no idea how the kid is going to be able to speak in front of all these people. She's impressed with his bravery. Her thoughts start to turn dark, but she doesn't let them. Not today. She looks towards Sam and his steady presence helps keep her grounded.
After Tibus's welcome, Elthana turns to Sergor and Mori, "So, is there anything you request of me tonight? I truly hope this doesn't last long." Turning to Mori, "Can I get you any wine?"
Gewyn wears his showy, exuberant persona well amongst the crowd, seemingly at home lost in the noise, but he does not do his normal performing. He signs an autograph here and there, but he doesn't have any instruments visible on his person, and he neither dances nor sashays through the crowd. Between that and his less conspicuous garb, it is clear to the others that he is re-curating his public image tonight, morphing subtly from a flamboyant entertainer into a dashing adventurer. He is also careful to keep one pace behind Vin, never stepping out in front.
"Junip's Tavern?"He says, eagerly shaking the hand of the man Sam introduces him to. "You offer me free drinks, I'll play your tavern every time I get thirsty, haha."
Once in the back room, he downs a large glass of water to help keep his voice hydrated before launching into action. "Okay, Muir, just hang in there a little longer. When we are out on stage, things will just move along on their own. You have very little to worry about. Try to relax, soak in the energy of the crowd, and concern yourself with nothing except your face and posture. Don't zone out or slouch just because you are not the one speaking. If we are standing out there for a long time, shift your weight subtly, to help blood flow to your feet. As long as you stay mindful, this should be a lot easier to get through than you may think."
He turns to Elthana next, pulling a small black container out from his pocket. "El, I know you tend to blend with the shadows, but that is exactly what will make you pop if we get you forward and in the light. Speaking of... lean forward." He opens the lid on the container and scoops his finger inside, pulling out a small dollop of paste matching Elthana's skin tone. He moves to smear a bit under her eyes where the shadows are. "You look tired. Not in a bad way. Just in a tired way. And tired is something we only get to be when we are ourselves. Not when we are the people on stage. That goes for all of you,"he says to the room. Then he leans in and says quieter, "Are you okay, though? You seem... like you have something going on. Well, we can talk later." He gets up and looks to Sam.
"Sam... No notes, actually. You seem to be on your best behaviour, and you've already been working the crowd. And with your body, I'm not worried about the crowd's confidence in you. Just... Be there."
"Finally, Vin. The best for last. Remember, chin up when you are speaking. Whether or not you have your speech perfectly memorized, devote some of your active brain power to emphasis and projection. Even if that makes remembering the next line a bit slower, a strong speech with 'dramatic pauses' is far more compelling than a weak speech that comes out in a torrent. Any stress or anxiety you are feeing isn't a bad thing unless you let it be. Use it. Let that pressure push you forward. Ride it. Use it to sharpen your focus. That fear never goes away. It just gets more useful. Do you want to run your opening and closing lines with me before we get out there?"(Offering Help action and Bardic Inspiration if possible)
"And most of all, everyone, have fun out there. Remember, we are heroes. Champions of the people. The five of us in here don't have to feel it, but when we step on that stage, we become different people who very much do feel it, and who are very happy to be here."
Elthana raises an eyebrow when Gewyn pulls out a small black container and asks her to lean forward. But she trusts him and does what he asks. She jumps a bit as he touches her under the eye with concealer, but lets him finish.
As he leans in and asks if she is ok, she looks at him and he can see her face almost breaking in response, tears welling in her eyes. But after a quick second, she recomposes and nods.
Sam sees Elthana asking this Mori if he wants wine and narrows his eyes. Was she... waiting on him? Who the hell is he? ((Assuming he, insert appropriate pronoun if needed.)) Probably someone higher up in her faction, of course, but still... It annoyed Sam.
Before Sam could dwell on it long enough for it to get his dander up, Gewyn is all Gewynish and distracts him entirely. "Don't lock the knees," Sam grumbles out as Gewyn is giving everyone advice. He's not entirely sure why you're not supposed to lock your knees but it's a bit of advice he was given once upon a time when having to stand in front of a lot of people for a long time and it just stuck in his head.
The Half Orc also notes again what a delicate state Elthana seems to be in and that just doesn't fit with his image of her at all. But Gewyn was there and seemed to be propping her up and so Sam looked elsewhere and wondered when the hells this thing would start. He was eager for it to be over a day ago.
As Mori accepts Elthanas kind offer, and Elthana moves to fulfill the request, Sam catches Mori's eye for the first time. The female elf is a little bit on the shorter side and is as skinny as a rake, skinny enough for Sam to wrongfully assume that the woman must have a fight on her hands every time there is a windy day. As she meets Sam's gaze she gives him an off the cuff smile and then turns to watch the stage, Sam immediately recognises a familial resemblance to Elthana and a similarity to Elthana's mannerisms.
The band "whalesong" finish their set and judge Tibus takes to the stage once more, he does this several times over the course of the next couple of hours, delivering news and welcoming acts on to the stage. During one of these intermittent speeches he introduces Master Goodall to the stage and very diplomatically introduces her as the new member of the council, there are several concerned grumbles from across the crowd, but judge tibus continues on and explains, "the keepers of the woods have a long, rich and peaceful history in Northmorrah, they have been pivotal in safeguarding our greatest resource, the natural landscape around us. With their joining in the discussions that the council undertake, i know that a druidic insight and advisement will help us council members greatly and it will reflect in our cities growth in the future to be more intrinsically attuned to nature as well as our people, i introduce to you now, Master Goodall, Keeper of the woods.",
Goodall who had been waiting anxiously at the gangplank has her throat touched by the guard in robes and walks out on to the stage, the murmurs from the crowd are concerned and undecided, but the eladrin begins speaking loudly, undeterred. "Good people of marblestead, thank you for your warm welcome. I have walked the streets of this city now for the past two weeks and have met many of you and seen the great many things you have accomplished. I am Master Goodall, I am originally from the forests of chattel where, for generations before me, the druidic community has watched over the forest, many of our communities span the far reaches of this continent, trading in the villages and towns, doing what we can to help. I am honoured to be the vessel for that help, that way of life and that ideal to now be received here in Marblestead, but I am not here to preach to you. No, I have already been in talks regarding shortages of foods and other necessities in the tangles and further, it is our aim to see that, together, with nature, none need starve. These talks have led to real actionable change in just a few days. With druidic magics and assistance from a few knowledgeable people, we have enriched a sizable parcel of land in the forest south east of the city, this land will be farmed and overseen by druids amd the folk we intend to help, together. and this is just the beginning. Again I thank you for your hospitality as I begin to make Marblestead my home and I look forward to spending time with more of you!" the crowd seems mostly oleased with some of the tangles folk cheering and whooping for a promising future, some are still unsure, and the majority of upperclass-looking folk look a little perturbed...
Judge Tibus takes to the stage once more. and as he begins speaking each council member stands and leads each of you out of the balcony, along the gangplank and up on to the stage. each council member jas their voice magically amplified as well as vin, before they leave.
The warmth and light from the bonfire grace your faces as Judge Tibus explains what happened in hokum, the invasion, the survivors heading into the forest and safe guarded by the druidic order there, the fact that the town itself amd the crops were ravaged. and then he continues, "...with the messengers and adventurers we were sending not coming back, and hearing no word ourselves, we deemed it necessary to put together a taskforce, a taskforce made up of a champion of each of our factions along with a promising young cleric, whom High Priest Holm also put forward. these champions set out with the task to find out what happened at hokum and restore it, rescuing those who needed rescuing and getting back the town that rightfully belongs to its people, they worked together and were sucessful! we introduce you to these champions now."
Tibus steps back and going from right to left each council member steps forth in turn standing you toward the front of the stage for all to see.
Jimmy Connelly, steps up, his voice magically amplified, and presents Sam who is trying not to lock his knees as he stands, "Sam Hall, A Fighter and Worker, he was there at the forefront of the assembly of the unions all those years ago. He stood with us at when we had to strike to secure The Workers Faction of Marblestead's place and our voice on the council, his ideals and his strength never waiver when it comes to the protection of the people, for those who make this city and this continent run!" there is a swell of cheers in the crowd especially from the workers faction people, which make up a large chunk of the crowd.
Sergor Hamilton steps up next."I present Elthana. A dedicated and skilled monk of the treasury's order, because of her talent and motivation she rose quickly in the ranks, protecting the wealth and amenities that this city depend upon. Her tenacity and decisiveness have seen to it that this city progress and expand, she is an exemplary monk as well as an exemplary person." Another roar from the crowd though a little less convincing, it appears that the treasury itself is not well liked by the majority of citizens but a crowd that has already begun applauding is caught up int the entropy of the moment, and the news of the success of this team in hokum.
Lord Unvale Hemiran, steps forward, "This young man is Vin, but do not let his age fool you. Vin is a scholar and a brave warrior, within him lies the potential for magics beyond the scope of what we know today. He graduated the Cavalcade academy quickly and with honours and recommendations from each of his mentors. His heart is loyal and kind, and that compassion and consideration is a boon to this group and to those he meets." more cheering, more whooping and applauses.
Vance Meldane has no need to usher Gewyn forward, as once he steps up Gewyn is already there, cloak billowing dramatically, "This is Gewyn the Melodic, and as many of you know, his enthusiasm and charisma are infectious. He began on the small stages dazzling and entertaining, before working his way up to bigger and bigger crowds, Catching the attention of the Jasmina Free-Associates. He has a gift that only very rare bards ever attain, a magical gift that can spread a wonderful happiness across this land, to those who need it most." the crowd roars and whalesong, who are now mingling in the crowd, seem to all unhook their instruments and simultaneously play a joyous riff to emphasize Gewyn's grandeur.
Master Goodall steps up and addressed the elephant on the stage, "I present Muir,a Keeper of the woods and a Masterful druid of the art, his thoughtfulness and generosity led him to oversee the protection and oversight of many many towns and villages in the south near chattel, he has always shown a compassion for the people and nature together, his patience and adaptability lend him great strengths in all situations making him a perfect fit for this group." the crowd are on a roll and cannot stop themselves from crescendoing louder and louder.
Tibus steps forward once more and quiets the crowd, "Young vin has prepared a speech to inform you on the success of this group in hokum, then we will close out this ceremony in time for the lunar eclipse."
Suddenly with the crowd near silent, all eyes are on Vin. Neferox whines from back at the balcony, standing to put her paws up on the railing she mentally connects with Vin, "you can do this, they are just fleshy people... just know if anyone boos you, I will feast upon their faces"
About damn time, Sam thinks to himself as Jimmy Connelly steps up and Sam is almost too eager to follow him just to get this all over and done with. There is a small moment of worry for Sam after the guard taps Jimmy's throat when Sam thinks they are going to do the same for him, but thankfully they do not. Don't have to speak, Sam thinks with relief.
Not allowed to speak, the more suspicious corners of his mind point out.
Sam stands next to Jimmy largely indifferently. He has no desire to rouse up the crowd of seek attention. Sam would have been happier if they did this without him. But it is what it is so he ignores it all the best he can. When Jimmy mentions "The Workers Faction" for the first time, however, Sam instinctively lifts his maul high into the air for a moment while eliciting a cheer and a similar rising of a fist from many, if not most, of those from the Tangles who are in the crowd. Once the moment is over it is over and Sam returns back to being mostly indifferent and bored besides Jimmy until his man's little speech is complete and they can step to the side.
While the others are introduced Sam does his best to pay a bit more attention and to join in the applause at the appropriate times. He does not seek to boost the crowds response but at a couple moments when wiseasses in the crowd yell out inappropriately Sam does look out threateningly or point a finger at the offender in order to signal them to shut their maws. Sam relaxes his vigilance once Goodall is introduced, she is not part of the team and she should be able to take care of herself... But once Vin is introduced it it clear to any from the Tangles that Sam is scanning the crowd and looking to mark and remember any trouble makers...
As Gewyn walks out, he claps each of the other members on the shoulder in passing to show unity and friendliness among the group. Upon his introduction, he sweeps his cloak back with one arm and gives a deep bow of appreciation before soaking in the praise. He waves and points out at the members of Whalesong and the loudest of his fans from the audience. He then claps along when Muir is introduced, very much trying to boost the crowd's response.
Then he stands still and relaxed, feet apart and hands clasped before him for Vin's speech.
Elthana gives a warm smile to Gewyn as he claps his hand on her shoulder as he passes. She was sure this was all some sort of torture. How others sought the limelight? Was beyond her.
As she is introduced, she does a little bow, bending over at the waist slightly as she is acknowledged.
She can't help but grin at Gewyn's new cloak as it billows of it's own freewill and she waits as Vin gets ready to speak.
Muir follows the others examples, bowing and waving to the crowd as he’s introduced. He performs a few magic tricks with water, turning water into flying birds and other city animals before returning back to his spot tsking into account Gewyn’s advice.
As Vin steps up to deliver his speech he looks around and surveys the people here. He takes notes of the variety of folks that all come to witness the festival. He smiles as young, old, poor, rich, races of all varieties and more all look at the young man that stands up to speak. Vin can feel the pressure. Can feel the weight of thousands of eyes on him. He stands here though, ready to speak. Wluld he of been able to do this before Hokum? Before he met Elthana, Sam, Gewyn and Muir? Nef seems to be staying back. Allowing him the spotlight. Its clear she wants this for him. The fame. It was Vin's time to step up and be noticed.
First step. Get their attention. Undoubtedly word of Hokum has spread. Survivors that left, soldiers that came home, stories of the horror, and also tales of a group of five folks and maybe a big black dog that came to rescue them. They were getting answers and now they werre getting to meet the group that did this feat.
"People of Northmorrah. You all come today for fun, dance and joy. A time of celebration and jubilation. I can't think of a better time for us all. This is when we are most united. This is what our group is all about. Unity.
You all know what happened to Hokum and doubtless many of you wonder how five individuals managed to overcome such ferocious odds stacked against them. How can five individuals defeat an entire army? The fact is our group was a test. A test to find out, What is the limit of our power when we work together?
Sam, Elthana, Muir, Gewyn, my dog Neferox and myself were unknown to each other when this began. With all the inner turmoil and politics these day it wasn't even known if we could work together. In fact, there was mistrust at first. There was even a bit of hostility we had towards each other but we stuck together. We learned more about each other. We didnt give up trying to work together becasue people were counting on us. The people of Hokum.
As this happened... something began to change with us. It was subtle. A level of trust was being built. When our first hurdle was encountered we were able to overcome. Given it was barely managed. Though, i remember how disjointed our ability to work together was back in that first encounter, i also remember thinking... we survived it. How?
As we continued on our way to Hokum it became clear we all had a lot to learn. I grew up in an orphanage right here in Marblestead. I'm also the youngest member of our group. To work side by side with folks from the Treasury, the workers faction, the keepers of the woods and the jasmina free-associates was quite the eye opener for me. I knew the differences we had but what i didnt realize was the similarities we had. I didnt realize the skills and talents they could offer.
Each of us represents the strengths of the group we are from. Sam and a strength of purpose with hard work and dedication. He showed us the power, determination and sheer stubborness that comes from being part of the workers faction. He stood face to face against mutated giants, spell infused giant spiders, twisted abominations created from blood and more. Each time being that steadfast wall that protecred those around him. He showed us what it means to be decisive and to always stand up to face your challenges.
Elthana with her grace, subtlety, and precision. She seemed unable to fail. A person that is talented in every way. She has a talent to focus on what is important. To target what is the real problem and focus it down. We came to learn of the Treasury and how it shaped Elthana and she in turn brought that unique perspective. We would of been lost when shape shifters attacked, distracted and attempted to control us if not for her. She also helps scout out the enemy as she and I stealthed out way to scoop the dangers ahead. She helped us focus our cause as she identified what needed to happen first. She showed us what it means to be focused and to always stay true to your goal.
Gewyn radiates flexibility, presence and support. Wherever we needed aid Gewyn seemed able to fill that gap. He was able to find ways to help us all, often in unexpected ways. His life with the Jasmina Free-associates showing how he can help a bit in any situation. Without him the survivors would of been panicked. He was able to bring a reassuring tone to them. Helping us unite many of the surviving folks to organize a strike force against the army of blood soaked redcaps that occupied Hokum and rescue many more folks held captive. He showed us what it means to stand up and help wherever you can.
Muir brought his knowledge, wisdom and selflessness. When we first met up with him he was too eager to help figure out what was going on. He wanted to help despite not knowing anything other then the forest and the people of hokum were in danger. He quickly showed us how skilled his healing eas, saving both us and many surviving folks of hokum with his amazing healing magic. With his aid and the fee members of the Keeepr of the woods we were able to save many more lives then would of been possibel without him. I don't think I'd be standing here if not for him. He showed us its never too late to help and to be through in learning.
We also had aid from an amazing man known as Iver Pepper. A guard from Tundlesten that stood up and held off many threats until we could arrive. He was sent to findout what happened and i think it would be a shame not to mention his bravey, dedication, and resolve to help. He did his sister and his family name proud keeping the survivors of Hokum alive until help could arrive. He showed us to never give up in the face of adversity and even if you make mistskes... you can always recover.
With all of these amazing people around me. I began to wonder, what do i bring to this group? When problems were solved and I didnt need to add much to solving it i began to doubt my usefulness. What did i bring to this group? What do i show the others?
It's odd, aiming to be a heroic adventurer like the founding members of the Cavalcade I dont often reflect on what i bring as much as i think, "how can i help?", it took these amazing people to show me I am far more then just an adventurer. That to be like the founding members is far more then just doing good deeds. Its working with others. Its accepting that you can't always have a big impact. It's taking the little victories you contribute that all add up into something large.
Sam showed me to be confident in myself. His direct approach cutting through my own inner thoughts. Elthana helped me realize i was more skilled then i thought. She was talented and to be able to keep up with her is amazing in itself. Gewyn allowed me to trust the others. He always had a kind approach that put me at ease. Muir wisely advised me when I was conflicted with choice. He helped me organize my thoughts. Iver gave me hope it would all be okay. Always positive despite the situation.
I am quite young, barely an adult. I have knowledge, magic and skills but I lacked experience. How far would i of made it without their skills and knowledge? I was able to fight off the corrupted witch that occupied hokum with her army of redcaps. I was able to stand before the survivors and give them hope. I was able to Im not sure what i showed the rest of my friends like they showed me. Im not experienced enough for that yet. However, i know i was important. I know I was needed. I will continue to be better becsuww of them and i look foreard to it.
Where before it was just me and Neferox my dog. She protects me and keeps me safe as i learn now that others can help with that too. I feel both Neferox and myself have grown a lot. Changed a lot. Learned to work with others better. Now there is a group. A group that is more then the individuals. We represent an idea that working together we can achieve more. We found ourselves growing in ways unthought of before. Where we striggled with our first fight together we now found ourselves saving a city from an army led by a powerful witch.
Unity.
I mentioned it before. I also mentioned a question. What is the limit of our power when we work together? We are 5 people. All from different parts of this amazing city. The 5 of us defeated giants, witches, armies, shapeshifters. The five of us liberated Hokum and saved the survivors. The five of us stood united and did the impossible.
Imagine what this city could achieve united.
We are the Peacekeepers of Northmorrah. An idea of unity.
Now lets us celebrate. Let us be united today. Talk to others, not just people of your group but people from other groups. Today ask members of the Cavalcade about their time in the school. Ask the jasmina free-associates who their favorite artist is. Check in with folks from the workers faction and ask what they've been doing. Talk to members of the Treasury and ask how they are fairing. Reach out to the keepers of the woods and learn what they want to do. Take this time and celebrte we are together. Use this time to be more united.
You might just find that we all have a lot more to offer each other together then apart."
With that Vin waves and then steps back. He hopes the speech wss good. He only had a short time to put it together but he felt honest about it. He wanted to give his friends credit for what they taught him. He looks to Iver and nods having given him credit for what he did. Neferox moves up next to Vin and seems uncertain as she looks at the crowd. The hound clearly not expecting to be called out a few times in that speech. Then the hound looks back at the group. Clearly deep in thought to Vin's words.
Vin having finished looks relieved that the speech was made and he hopes folks take his words to heart.
Muir looks at Elthana and then back to the group "Perhaps we talk about this back home...."
Muir nods in agreement "I am most uncomfortable"
"Junip's Tavern?" He says, eagerly shaking the hand of the man Sam introduces him to.
That goes for all of you," he says to the room.
Do you want to run your opening and closing lines with me before we get out there?" (Offering Help action and Bardic Inspiration if possible)
Muir nods to Gewyn and repeats “Don't zone out or slouch, shift your weight subtly, to help blood flow to your feet, and stay mindful”
