"HAFGUFA! YES THEY ARE GREAT BEASTS THAT FLOAT THROUGH THE SKY LIKE... WELL HAFGUFA, IM NOT SURE HOW TO DESCRIBE THEM WITHOUT SHOWING YOU DIRECTLY..." Akiin chuckles, "it was being the large floating thing you were calling a jellyfish?" Griff interrupts without looking up, "the one that was escaping from the rift after you are meeting me, yes? It floated off into sky and disappeared."
As Sam looks over the magic bag given to the group by hog, it doesn't seem too fancy, a large enough sack with small embroidery around the top where drawstrings gather the top to a seal. Sam opens the bag and pops the notes in, but nothing happens. Looking at the notes in the bottom of the bag he pulls the drawstrings tightly, the bulge where the notes sat disappears and on further inspection of the bag, it is empty once again.
"Hmph," Sam hmphs. He wonders how long he need wait for a response, if indeed a response can come. He wonders even how he would know when it came. Does he need to keep checking the bag? He checks the bag but then closes the bag again not sure if the bag needs to be closed for a response to come. Then he opens and checks the bag again before closing it back up hurriedly. He's like a teen waiting for their crush to call and picking up the phone every so often just to make sure it is working but then quickly hanging up so as not to tie up the line. But bah, that was back in the time of landlines and kids today know nothing of that burden! Or... that is a future thing not yet invented? Sam Hmph's again, confused.
Muir thinks for a moment and answers Sam "The bag seems like it would make sense to be a two way bag. I feel as Hog mentioned making things and sending them to us.....I wonder if you put your head in the bag and we closed it would you pop out and be able to talk to Hog....I wonder but that's for another time I suppose....Wouldn't want you to lose your head if the bag doesn't quite work that way." Muir turns back to Akiin "How do you grow such beautiful flowers outside? Do the Hafuga have anything to do with that too?
Elthana walks to the balcony and looks to the great expanse of their territory. It was quite beautiful she had to admit, and taking it in she was able to let her mind wander a bit. She smiled at Griff as he recalled the 'jellyfish' that arrived in their plane and wondered what happened to the creature.
Turning back to Sam and the bag, she watches with slight amusement as he opens and closes the bag. She sits down by the bag and him and once he has made his last hmph, she takes his hand and places it on the bag. "Once something comes, you'll feel it."
Looking back to Griff, "Do you think it would be prudent for us to learn how to navigate your gravity for when we are fighting on the Broken Isles? If so, now would probably be a good time."
" HAFGUFA GIVE US SPORES WHICH WE CAN USE AS MOSS BEDS FOR GROWING THINGS, THEY ARE VERY USEFUL BEASTS, THE MOSS BEDS ARE A NUTRITIONAL BASE FROM WHICH WE CAN GROW WHAT WE LIKE!" Akiin brags somewhat, "GRIFF CAN SHOW YOU THE NEAREST HAFGUFA RANCH WHILST YOU'RE LEARNING HOW TO BEND YOUR GRAVITY AND FINDING SOME TRANSPORT, YES?!"
Griff nods once more and looks to Elthana, "It would be being very uhhh benefitting you to learn, we can be training you, there is a place we are using for the children to learn, we can be going there"
Sam perturbed by Muir's suggestion is not deterred from Hmph-ing at the bag and soon enough he feels the crinkle of many papers and the tug of something stone like appearing in the bag. Opening the drawstrings once more Sam finds a wad of blank papers, one page with writing on it and a vial of ink with a cork stopper.
Griff finishes up his food and stands up, giving a nod to Akiin he addresses the group, "I am being ready to leave whenever you are". In response, Vin stuffs the last of his food in his mouth as quick as possible and throws another egg into Nef's maw, before standing up and hurriedly adding "Me too, I'm ready".
Muir takes a few bites of food and follows Griff towards the door "Thank you for your hospitality Akiin. If time permits, I would like to sit and hear about the history of your lands but to be honest, I am excited to see this moss and with your permission see how it differs from moss in our world"Muir bows his head and thanks and waits for the others
Sam almost falls off his chair in alarm as the bag suddenly has items in it! It was in truth not that alarming or anything but Sam had just been so focused on it for so long with nothing happening that he had all but forgotten what he was focused on and so when it did happen it was extra alarming...
Gathering himself together, Sam pulls out the contents and quickly sorts through them. The paper and ink will come in handy for the next note he writes and sends forth, one requesting perhaps a pen as well. Writing the notes with the painting supplies he picked up somewhere is not the neatest or quickest way to do things. But write a note Sam does, thanking hog and asking him for the pen and to please place the bottle in his room at home... Sam then puts the note and the bottle of fine wine he pinches from the Treasury in the bag and closes it up.
"Yes, yes!" Sam agrees with Muir. "The food and hospitality have been more than fabulous and you have proven yourself one of the most gracious hosts I have ever experienced!" Sam believes in laying the praise on thick when dealing with... Well, whatever Akiin may happen to be. "Let us be off... We have no idea how long arranging transportation could take. Nor how long it will take my stomach to accept there is more than one down...."
Elthana raises an eyebrow as she watches Sam navigate the bag. "Um, is that wine bottle from the Treasury's wine cellar? Sam!" she teasingly chastises him.
She finishes the little food she could stomach and gets up to the follow the rest, eyeing Sam like he is going to steal something from Akiin with a playful smile on her lips. Felt good to be herself a bit more.
"Wine cellar? Heavens no!" Sam insists with mock injury. "I picked that up at the celebration... from a waiter... for the, err, afterparty..." Sam then winks and gives Elthana a smile. "We deserve something nice if we make it back home after all this, no?"
"Says here on the note from Hog that he sent a mouse through the bag once but the mouse never came out... With a few alterations that man can have invented the perfect mousetrap!" Sam shares. "Though part of me wants to experiment... Like a mouse apparently disappears but what about a plant? An egg? What about a mouse inside of a sealed jar? Time enough to experiment some other time though, I suppose..."
Sam then lightly bumps his shoulder into Elthana's as he stands. "Come, let's go practice this gravity nonsense in case we have to fight on the ceiling or something..."
Griff exits and leads the group out of the palace which towers behind them. As you exit the first thing you notice is the winds, it becomes significantly more apparent that you are on a rock continually falling into the vast beyond. The second notable thing is the city, each dwelling is expertly carved into and out of the natural crystal that the landscape is made of.
Griff leads you through the streets for some time which curve around the land until you are walking against the wind and now perpendicular to the orientation that you first started. "First lesson. If the change in orientation is being slight and gradual it is requiring not so much concentration to be keeping your feet on the ground, yes? Second lesson. If ever you are feeling confused or disoriented when you are not having the big down as your base, keep low. If you are lowering your center of gravity, you are making things easier for yourself. Come, we go first to the foundling port and organise travel, then we are going to training place".
Some of the homes and likely businesses on the journey to the foundling port have spires on them which extend upward, from their bases perspective, like trees, sometimes there are flying animals perched upon them, and others have small glass like rafts tied up there.
At the base of the foundling port, which looks like one massive crystal tree, there is a buzz of activity. races of bird people, air genasi, dragonborn and elementals make up the majority of people here along with very few other races more common to the material plane, oddly enough there appears to be some folk who look to be made of crystal themselves. The people here appear to be selling and purchasing wares, shouting about sales in either common or the auran tongue that Griff speaks.
"I will go and be talking to captains of outgoing vessels, see who is going to gojiin and is having capacity for all of us yes? people are trading here in gold as sanctioned by Akiin, buy food and water for trip unless you are already having? do not be wandering too far, yes?"
"We could just have Hog send us some waterskins and rations through the bag," Sam suggests. It was true enough he never thought to worry about bringing such, either to the celebration or when things started to fall apart, but standing around in this strange land and looking at the wares for sale... Sam is a bit reluctant. He prefers the foods he is accustomed to, specially when he does not know where the nearest privy is.
Still, Sam is curious what the locals have on sale at this market. If nothing else it might be fun to find an odd knickknack or such to send to Hog with the request that he grab the essential bits of Sam's gear for him. (Investigation - 14)
Elthana smiles at Sam, "What do you mean, if? Of course we will. And yes.. it will be nice to have something to celebrate with."
Elthana looks around at the town as they traverse it, finding the whole situation very odd and it keeps her at a strange imbalance that she doesn't like. She's hoping once she's focused on something that will go away.
Gewyn observes the scenery around him as they travel, and feels something long-dormant stirring inside of him. "I want to write a song about this place..." he says. "It is simply wonderous." Then a thought sobers him up.
Moving over to Muir, Elthana, Vin, and Sam, he says quietly, "I have a confession to make. Well, I've got several, but time now for only one. When we got here, I tried using this..." He gestures to his hand mirror. "I saw only blackness, heard a voice say 'interesting,' and then I was repelled. I think I may have crossed over into the Shadowfell just for a moment, and someone powerful there was observing me."
Muir raises a brow if he had one and whispers back “Shadowfell….This reference…is outside of the seven planes? Is it a connection between this world and ours? Is that a different name for one of the planes that have opened? More research will be needed”
"Way I understand it, we have to go to Gojiin first and then Gojiin will get us within a days travel to the broken isles?" Sam answers Elthana. "I'm guessing there is no direct route since the broken isles are the kobolds territory?" Sam then looks to Griff for confirmation that he was at least close to understanding the travel plans...
When pulled away by Gewyn Sam listens a his brows furrow. "Is that new? Something on the other end knowing of your looking? Perhaps it targets not a specific plana but just one closest or something?"
Griff nods to Sam confirming his suspicions about how travel will take place and then leaves to go speak to the captains, leaving the group by themselves to poke around the market.
Sam sees a veritable smörgåsbord of items and goods for sale. Fried meats on spikes boiled in some liquid which is heated using one of those lightning heat lamps particularly catch his nose, as well as someone selling medium crystal armour which isn't quite as nice or as complete as Griff's military gear, but nice nonetheless. Others are selling thick leathers, and finer cloth that seems to be made of very thin weaved straw and vegetation all in patterns and some embroidered with small crystals and spun gold.
The meat smells good but then again Sam thought the Dwarven jerky was a good idea too... That did not turn out so well. Sam would much prefer eats from home. The crystal armor is interesting but he just upgraded his armor and still hasn't even put it through it's paces yet. Sam is more looking for a small crystal carving or ring or some other small-ish but unique looking kind of thing to send back to Hog along with a request for the rations Sam keeps packed with the rest of his Go Gear. Something Sam figures would look good in the little magic shop Hog is setting up...
"Should we get something for Adda and Edda too?" Sam asks Elthana.
"Right... I thought we were training before we headed off to Gojiin?" (Or did we already do that with a handwave of sorts?)
As Gewyn pulls off to the side, "That doesn't sound good, is it something we should be worried about? This thing watching you? Should you keep your mirror covered up? Or has it shown you anything in this plane so far? As for secrets, yeah, when we have some down time, I have some things I'd like to share as well." She looks down at this, not able to meet anyones eyes.
Elthana peruses the crystal items for sale as well, and when Sam asks about getting something for Adda and Edda, she elbows him and with a smile remarks, "You softie."
Sam smirks... Almost blushes... But coughs to cover it up and goes back to looking at the wares for sale. "Hog did want us sending things back for him to tinker with. Just seems wrong not to send the twins something too, yes?"
In his browsing and shopping, often asking Elthana for her opinion and which she likes better, Sam ends up buying an ornate bracelet, an amulet, four rings in total, a bolt of cloth and a variety of cuts of the leather like material. "I'll just send it all back and let them sort out who gets what," Sam says with a bit of a shrug. "Easier to let them pick since I really don't know who likes what..."
When he gets a moment Sam then finds a spot to sit down and pull out writing materials to prepare a note to send along with the items. "Hog, your bag does indeed work across places. We're on the sky or air or whatever they call it one right now. It is weird. Every direction is up if you choose it to be. May be here a week or more, our time. That may be different your time. Once we get the load stone we are sending to you by the bag for you to get to the treasury. In the meantime, here's some trinkets I bought here, though you and the twins could sort out who gets what yourselves... And in return, could you gather up the rations I keep in my room in my backpack? The foodstuffs here seem good but... I like what I know. Would prefer food from home..." Once the note is prepared he folds it up, puts it with the rest of the stuff, and sends it back home via the bag,,,

"Ahhhh, why I oughta!!" Sam says, shaking a fist at Muir, after finally getting it.
Sam blushes at his foolishness and smiles at Elthana when she sits with him. "I'm sure you're right... if it's big enough to notice."
