Muir, oddly with Sam's "help", finally getts the hang of this floor and ceiling fiasco. He quickly feints left after the last flag and then quickly lunges for the last flag on one of Griff's kids using his trunk to snag it.
Having been oriented in the same direction for more than a few seconds now, he feels more grounded and focused than before. He sees Boris coming at him, Elthana on Sam's opposite flank, Sam distracted with snatching her ribbon back, and a plan comes to mind. "Now, El!"
He vaults over Boris, taps Sam on the shoulder, snatches a strip from off his belt, and then rolls between Sam's legs before he can turn (Nat 20). Popping up in front of Elthana, he flashes her a wink, looks straight up and jumps.
Then he falls straight sideways and slams shoulder first into a side wall with a wooomph of air escaping his lungs.
Sam attempts to retrieve the ribbon from Elthana but misses.. she watches as Gewyn expertly vaults and snatches the ribbon off of Sam, then taking her chance as he is distracting Sam, she lunges for one of his other ribbons..
And with a 27 attack, she plucks it right off of Sam, lets it fly in his face before stuffing that one in her bag as well. "Thanks Gewyn!" she shouts after him.
Sam turns his head this way. He suddenly turns that way. He does a double take while spinning the other direction. Suddenly, all his ribbons are gone...
"Awww... Shucks," Sams says with a wry grin and a halfhearted shrug. "C'mon, Boris. Let's leave them to deal with the kids since we... "lost."" With that, Sam and Boris make their way back down to Ógra and "tsk tsk tsk" the lion for their poor showing. Ógra roars out in defiance! But then hangs his head in shame, turns around in a circle and lies down with their head on their paws.
As Sam is flanked and dodged around, and Boris' shoves failing, Sam watches as Elthana takes the last of his ribbons.
Muir, equally successful, leaves the one kid standing on the ball without ribbons too. The child seeing his time in the game is over flies on over to Griff and their mother they all begin chatting excitedly about the ongoing game.
Vin prepares himself on the back wall with the twirling pair of kids 'above' him, springing off of the wall he jumps with surprising accuracy and inverts his gravity so that he is falling head first across the entire room, arms outstretched he collides with the two twirling kids stopping them mid rotation and deftly taking a ribbon from one. Neferox a little slow on the uptake this round runs down the wall again and chases after vin with her paws firmly on the ground.
"Good! Good! You are all learning to let it being second nature to you, to be feeling where you need to go instead of being concentrating too hard!" Griff calls out obviously impressed with everyone's quick learning.
The two remaining kids break from their ball in the middle and fly in opposite directions landing on each side wall, the kid with one ribbon being 10ft from where Gewyn landed.
The kid with two ribbons oon the opposite wall 50ft away from Sam and Elthana and only 40ft away from where Muir and Vin are in the middle of the room
Gewyn wills his lungs to draw in breath again. He feels his ribs. Not actually that painful. He had mostly just been surprised by the fall. He eyes the kid near him, but forces himself to wait a second and regain his composure. Find his orientation.
Then he hops up and lunges at the kid's remaining ribbon (16)
Seizing it deftly, he smiles at the kid and offers him a high five.
The kid attempts a dodge but fails as Gewyn's hand is quicker than the young Aarakocra's reactions, he high fives gesy with a laugh and now without any ribbons left goes over to join his parents to watch.
The last child whoops and hollers in celebration at being the last remaining survivor.
Sam, with Boris and Ógra, starts working on this gravity thing some more. Trying to get them to help one another, somehow?, Sam tries to lead the animals from the floor to the wall to the ceiling, to the opposite wall and back to the floor... Basically a lap of the room at a slow, steady pace while ignoring the games. He figures it is best they all get used to it before competing against younglings born to it. He has no doubt those kids could run circles around them all if they really put effort into it. Specially since you can't just shoot them down or squash them... Not that Sam would ever do such a thing to a kid! Or even think about it...
Elthana deftly jumps from her position and flips in the air, landing next to Griff's last child with ribbons. Unfortunately, in her happiness of figuring out the gravity situation, she completely whiffs grabbing the ribbon off the arakocra.
Muir continues along 30 feet trying to corner the child so one of the others can grab the ribbon. He holds his position waiting to lunge at the child if they try to get by him (Dex 9).
Gewyn looks at the last kid, and decides to take a more measured approach this time. He runs toward the floor and places his hands against, willing his world to turn on its side. Nothing happens, but Gewyn keeps concentrating. Hoping for a breakthrough. Then it happens (23). He feels the shift and quickly drops his feet from the wall to the floor before taking off at a run for the far wall where the last kid is. He calls out "Here we go! Last rush!" (Mantle of inspiration again. Movement as a reaction and 8 more temp hp.)
Vin calls Nef over and they both go running along the floor toward the last kid who is now getting swarmed. Vin tries to run up the wall but missteps and slips remaining on the floor for now, his arm going for a ribbon but missing by quite a stretch because of his slip.
Neferox on the other hand bolstered by vin's call of support, bounds up to the kid and jumps up the wall now inverting her gravity at all but using it to judge the arc of her leap perfectly, just at the zenith she is able to very gently bite the ribbon and then let her falling body weight pull it off the kid without issue.
Vin is shocked at the sudden display of skillful gentleness from his hell hound, but it doesnt stop a wide smile spreading across his face.
The kid now with only one ribbon tries to push past the group surrounding him, flapping in Muir's face but not distracting the loxodon enough for his prepared lunge to not take effect. (Acrobatics check 7, Muir's readied action goes off)
The child flaps left, flaps right, but can’t trick the Wiley loxodon who with the dexterity of a ballerina spins in the direction of the boy, rolls on the ground like a gymnast, and bursts up with the speed of an Olympian lunging for the ribbon with his trunk
With one final hurrah Muir tales the last ribbon and the game is over to much cheering and giggling from the rest of the kids.
The group doesn't get too much down time before the children want to play again, and then again, giving the ribbons to the group at one point and reversing the chase instead. The hours dwindle by and Griff keeps pointing out how to improve your gravity training, giving tips to those struggling and offering tidbits of patient advice.
Once you're all thoroughly exhausted (level 2 exhaustion everyone!) You sit down and eat the meal prepared by Griff's wife, the picnic basket provides enough sustenance to happily feed you all up with a plethora of cold cuts of uncommon meats, a chunky salad with very flavourful mushroom things in it and some kind of thick earthy fruit smoothie.
"Are you thinking you have been learning enough for the fight ahead?" Asks Griff over the meal, as his wife and kids happily listen in without understanding what is being said "there will be many kolbolds to be fighting when you are reaching the broken isles, and maybe some in gojiin too, it is being a place easily infiltrated, yes."
"I think we're as ready as we're going to be." Elthana yawns loudly, "Though I gotta say I'm glad we decided on the long ride as I am in bad need of sleep. How much longer before we board?" She eats a bit more of the fare set before her, finding it good just the texture is really hard to get over.."anything else we need to accomplish here?"
"Shoot them from a distance," Sam mumbles at the talk of fighting. "Arrows fly better than I do." So Sam has a plan even if he hasn't totally mastered this wonky gravity yet. "Besides, they're kobolds. How tough can they be?"
Muir had fallen asleep at the table wakes suddenly from his own snoring "What's this? Kobolds where?! Oh right shoot from afar is a fine idea although don't underestimate them....If Griff and the others have not been able to quell the rebellion they must be a formidable force, no?"
"foot falls and arrows will be being good for a time, but their sheer numbers will be being your biggest problem. Kobolds are being ruthless and attack in large numbers, sometimes is being impossible to get away if you cannot be flying." Griff muses as he finishes his food off and sees to his kids making sure that they're eating enough, "we can be speaking more about tactics on the journey to gojiin yes? Until then we can be going back to the foundling port, Sam was being interested in drinking yes? We are having three more hours until we are departing"
