"Don't want to kill you," Sam calls out angrily. "You're taking my choice away though!" And as he says that he swings at the little shit that just stabbed him.
First Maul Attack: 19to hit, 23 magical bludgeoning damage plus 1more from Giant's Might
If the kobold still stands, Sam smashes him again. If he is down then Sam attacks the other kobold in melee with him...
Second Maul Attack: 23 to hit for 25mag bludgeoning damage...
"We just want a piece of load stone... Drangon Bone... and we'll leave!" He's not really sure if it's true or not anymore but what the hell, worth a shot.
Elthana slowly comes out of her charm as she takes in the scene she had walked into. Taking in the grandeur of the shrine and the man that aches with familiarity, she listens to Muir's words. She wasn't sure if she wanted to reveal all that he said just yet as they were basically in the middle of a fight and this man had tried to dominate her, but her heart feels the words from the Loxodon and she loves him for it.
Her movements slow and deliberate, she looks to the man and finally asks, "Are you a relative of Hector? His son perhaps? Because from what I have been told from Mori, your age does not line up from what I know." She cringes slightly as she hears Sam demolish more kobolds, "Please, call them off. Can we talk?"
Sam smashes the kobold to the south of him turning the creature into paste, as he turns to the other kobold it is already laying dead, the Mornlyf in its system having already frozen the creature solid and now is quickly thawing, its scales turning from blue back to its healthy black, but the kobold is dead.
Griff nocks one arrow after the other into his bow and let's fly more poison tipped death upon the two mages giggling on the floor, he grazes them both and their scales begin to lose colour as their giggles become sparse and their blood starts to freeze in their veins.
The disgruntled cawing of some large birds picks up once more in the other room, Muir and Elthana hear it close by.
Sam, seeing the Mornly'd kobold by him, smashes that one to paste as well. "Griff, stop with that stuff or my maul is coming for you..." he growls, not at all liking the very concept of the crap and less so now having seen it in action against those already fallen...
"relative of hector? Nivara do you no longer recognise your own brother?" The old man worries in response to Elthana's words.
As Muir explains the situation, (20 persuasion, vs a nat one) the old man drops the darkness spell and Muir sees this hooded figure with a long white beard protruding, the hooded man, Hector, stands next to Elthana and looks quizzically over to Muir knowing Muir's words to be true. Muir on the other hand now realises he is flanked by two dragonborn warriors.
"A clone? No this... This must be deception" the old man quickly attempts to grapple at Elthana, grabbing her jaw to open her mouth and look inside (nat 20 for a 24 athletics)
Griff grunts at Sam and mocks one last mornlyf'd arrow in defiance, "they are lying, they may not be worshipping Nectyran but they are worshipping Lumithor the betrayer! This is not your land, these are not your politics and if you are siding with this scourge then Akiin will be having a duty to stop you returning home, I am trying to help you." Sam feels something behind him but sees nothing.
The remaining kobolds seem confused, but remain ready to defend themselves as their attention turns more to Griff than the rest of the group.
"Screw politics, my issue is your use of this Mornlyf poison crap!" Sam hisses. "Use it in front of me evermore and you and I are going round and round..."
Seeing the two kobolds he'd peacefully incapacitated struck dead by Griff, Gewyn snaps his attention upward at him. He moves toward Griff and puts his pipes to work, weaving a song of sleep over him before moving to stand between him and any incoming attackers. He throws an understanding nod Sam's way.
Hector's black eyes go wide with realisation as he looks for somethin in Elthana's mouth, he takes a step back, "you really are her clone, this... this is wrong, this opens up so many new dangers"
Griff looks to sam with an indignant scowl before flying further up and readying his attack, but before he can make it, Gewyn's sleep spell takes hold and Griff's wings curl in as he slams down onto the crystal plug, the chime of his armour striking crystal ringing out and getting everyone's attention.
Hector looks over to the sound and his brow furrows "you brought a guard here? they cannot know of this place, he cannot be allowed to leave, amid wer shivi! lowd wer lyriki ergriff sjek lowda" he calls out in the grating draconic tongue to his counterparts who begin to move toward the fallen Aarakocra.
The dragonborn to the right of muir peels off and jumps the stalagmites opening up to the plug from the next room (AoO for Muir if wanted) the dragonborn then stabs down at Griff with a two handed longsword, glancing off of his armour both times as he tries to rush the attacks. (19 and 6 to hit, both miss)
The last sorcerer kobold inverts its gravity and runs along the ceiling to just above Gewyn to get a better view and then sends a streaking ball of warbling chromatic energy at Griff which splashes over him in a sickly sour smelling green liquid which begins to boil and sizzle on Griff's feathers (21 to hit 13 poison damage.) He wakes at the damage and begins shrinking a high pitched bird call of pain and panic.
The kobold warrior in the middle of Vin and Nef also inverts it's gravity (AoO if wanted) and prepares an attack on Griff should the party start attacking once more.
The remaining two kobolds and the dragonborn next to muir all prepare readied attacks on the group, waiting to see what happens.
"You must come with me, Elthana, was it? is that what he called you?" Hector asks as he holds Elthana's arm, "if you care about the rest of your companions at all, then please.. come with me."
Muir takes a few steps around the room looking around talking "Yes you see she is not your sister as I said. She is Elthana. They cloned your sister to be her but she is not. The guard is our guide. We need him and promised to return him in one piece. Let's not kill him but instead tie him up and put him to sleep or some other spell to keep him alive but incapacitated. We have a lot to talk about. We are here for a lodestone as the treasury is sinking into the rest of the city. We do not care of the politics but you are Elthana's what should we call you Hector? May I call you Hector? As I said I am Muir. Perhaps you could help Elthana while we are here. There's so much to talk about and so little time.....Please call of the guards so we may sit and talk or walk and talk if that fits you better. I saw the Raven Queen and knew you were not followers of Nectyran but then when you called Elthana Nivara, I suspected you were Hector....possibly trying to stop your sister's ambitions? Please let us walk and talk or sit and talk whichever works for you....there's so much to say and so little time....We are wasting time fighting each other as is....." Muir stops walking and pleads with Hector hoping he will see them as allies instead of enemies.
Hearing the kerfuffle beyond the fog cloud, and then the avian shriek, Vin retreats to try and get out of the fog. He heads towards Griff, whom he assumes is the one in trouble.
As he exits the fog, he is surprised to see a dragonborn with a large long sword standing over the prone and obviously severely hurt aarokocra, and reaches a hand out and once more uses his ring looking to inflict pain on the dragonborn.
He then looks around to see where everyone else is.
"They send in the little dragons first, then the medium sized, I just hope they don't have any big ones!", he says as he moves next to Griff offering him a helping hand to get up.
Vin turn details in below spoiler:
Movement: Out of the fog cloud next to the dragonborn and by Griff, trying to leave room for Neferox as well Action: Use ring of spell storing to cast inflict wounds on the dragonborn. Inflict Wounds: To Hit: 18+8=26, Damage: 10+4+9=23 [necrotic]
Neferox then charges out of the fog, leaping at the dragonborn and trying to clamp her jaws around it and bring it to the ground.
Neferox turn details in below spoiler:
Movement: Out of the fog cloud into melee with the dragonborn by Griff Action: Multiattack on dragonborn standing over Griff Bite 1: To Hit: 17+4=21, Damage: 5+4+3=12 [piercing] - If the target is a creature, it must succeed on a DC 13 Strength saving throw or be knocked prone. Bite 2: To Hit: 2+4=6, (miss - even if prone from previous attack - second attack roll also a 2)
Sam sees Griff fall asleep and feels the tension drain as he'll no longer have to worry about the feathered fowl using the foul fluid, at least for the moment. His tension is immediately kicked into gear once again as seemingly immediately there is a dragonborn rushing in from nowhere and attacking Griff, and a magician pouring green goop all over the poor Griff. Even a kobold seems about to pile on...
Sam has no tricks up his sleeve. No animals to summon, no runes to play and even his size and stoneskin have a timer on them... Thus the only way Sam sees to defend the avian ass is to attack...
((Sam is initially attacking the Dragonborn who just came out of nowhere and attacked Griff's prone, sleeping body... It's said he jumped (over?) the stalagmites but I'm unclear if he is on ceiling or on the floor next to Griff? I would assume floor next to Griff since he made melee attacks. BUT if Sam needs to make a wisdom check or something to move into the air to be in melee vs dragonborn then let me know?))
Maul vs Dragonborn Attack: 26to hit for 17magical bludgeoning damage, plus 3 more from Giant's Might (rerolled all 4 initial damage dies due to Great Weapon Fighting) Second Maul vs Dragonborn Attack: Nat 1 for 11 to hit...
For his movement, besides moving into melee vs Dragonborn, Sam would look to place himself protectively over Griff as much as possible...
"New dangers? I don't understand." Hearing Hector's words regarding Griff, she looks at Hector with almost pleading eyes, "Please, he is our friend. We can reason with him about your location, he won't give it away."
The rest of the fighting and whatever that is going on in the other room, Elthana pays no mind. She knows her friends can handle most anything and Muir is here with her and not with them, so it can't be that bad she reasons (she should know better apparently XD).
She hears Muir prattle on and it relaxes her a bit, she doesn't try to pull away from Hector's grasp. "He called me? Do you mean Sergor? I am unsure who named me to be honest, but from what I have been told I am nothing like your sister than I resemble. I don't know how you feel about that, but I thought you should know. And Muir is right, Marblestead is in eminent danger. We need a replacement for the lodestone now or the Treasury is going to crush the city. Are you able to help with this? This is the only reason we are here."
She then leans into Hector and whispers in his ear if he allows.
Hector listens to Muir's logical pleading, but the intricacies of the situation seem to rise above Muir's call for calm. Especially after Vin attacks the dragonborn, then all of the held actions from the kobolds go off.
The two kobolds near Neferox strike out at her through the fog as she tries to dart away, (15 & 14, both miss) then the kobold on the ceiling throws its spear at the wailing Griff but the spear bounces off of the Aarakocra's armour weakly.
The dragonborn near Muir moves to strike and slashes across the loxodon. (20 to hit, 11 slashing damage + 16 radiant damage from divine smite.)
Then Sam, Vin and Neferox all attack the dragon born looming over Griff, each of their first attacks hitting and bringing the dragonborn to a bloodied stance though it remains standing despite Neferox's efforts to knock it prone.
As Elthana's whisper reaches the ear of hector his face softens. He whispers something back and then calls out to his draconic group, "Cease! Bind or incapacitate the guard! Collect our dead." Hector then repeats this order in draconic and each kobold evaporates into shadow and mist, leaving only the dragonborn and Hector remaining.
The dragonborn over Griff does not lower his weapon moving instead to a guarded stance, he cautiously and slowly pulls a rope from his belt and throws it toward Sam's feet, pointing down toward Griff in silent request.
"Damn right you're not putting your hands on him," Sam says as the rope lands at his feet. Sam then indeed binds Griff. Securely enough but not overly tight or anything. While he is doing so he also removed Griff's sword and bow... though if there is a dagger not obvious or such on Griff's person that Sam could reasonably overlook then he does so. What he does not overlook is any and all Mornlyf that the bird-dude may have on him - though removing this he will do as subtly and sneakily as possible, attempting to his it from Griff as well as the others. ((Sleight of Hand: 15))
"It must be," Sam whispers to Griff as he does this. "We needed a rest before taking on this many. We needed to stay as a group... We'll play this out and heal up as we do before counter, eh? But I swear to you, these shits will not be the death of you while I live... I may be but they won't."
Muir yells as he surprsingly gets mauled and smited. He falls to his knees bludgeoned and in pain. He holds his head and feels the warm stickyness of the blood dripping from there. He takes ou a cloth and begins to hold it to his head. "Well that didn't go how I had hoped...." He gets up a little woozy and waits trying to gather his senses
Gewyn rushes over to Griff's side while Sam begins to bind him, casting a vile scowl at all who'd tried to attack him while he slept. "Griff, listen to me. We're going to get you home to your kids. I swear it. But the situation is complicated, and this is one of the few things we can do to uncomplicate it for now. You're just going to have to trust us, okay?"
Hector regards Elthana with a smile, "dangers is right but for right now you aren't her... It's like you're her but before the incident.
You've been with sergor too? How is the old bastard, is he still treating you righ.. oh, I suppose it wouldn't be you... wait, did he take you as his wife? Ooh this is strange"
Griff struggles against his bindings, his cries of pain muffled as his beak is wound shit with rope, his eyes are wide as Gewyn talks him down but it seems to work.
The dragonborn who just slashed at Muir sheathes his sword at Hector's order and extends a hand to the loxodon to help him up.
As people start convening in the next room with Muir and Elthana they see Hector, an old elf with alabaster skin, black eyes and a long white beard, his hair still has remnants of a time when it was jet black like Elthana's, but it seems age has taken root in his har too.
On the back wall of this room is a grand crystal shrine to the raven queen, which has seen better days, though it seems to be the only thing in these rooms that is completely and utterly devoid of moss or mould growth. The shrine depicts a raven in flight, shadows surround it and it's head and ribs are lined with a metal of some kind highlighting the head and body. There is also a guilded fan behind the bird depicting light of the soul.
Vin moves so that Neferox is between himself and the dragonborn, not taking his eyes off the creature that he was until a moment ago in mortal combat with. Neferox for her part simply growls at the dragonborn in warning. The tension still palpable.
Once Griff is on his feet and bound, seemingly willingly after Gewyn's chat, Vin moves into the other room with Neferox padding along beside him.
He is pretty certain that the kobolds who had disappeared had not gone far, and as he spots the old elf talking with Elthana he can't help but ask, "Ok, is someone going to explain what is going on? Did the old guy surrender?".
"Gods forbid they say hello and offer a proper greeting," Sam grumbles mostly to himself. "Always with the coming out and attacking, never just a 'How ya do?"
When he moves to the next room and see Elthana is alright some of the tension leaves him. "So we all friends now or what?" he asks her, not expecting a real answer but opening the floor up for her to hopefully explain just what the hell is going on.
