"I think if Elthana knew that people were already dying, she would have told us that we don't have time to stop", Vin replies, looking to Elthana confident in what she will say.
"We need to give ourselves the best chance of success, because there is no option of failure. I think we should rest", he then says seriously, the weight of the burden showing on his young shoulders.
Muir has a thought "Perhaps....Perhaps my staff could provide us some shelter and comforts...." Muir checks the ground and groans "There is no fertile land here. We are sleeping outside it seems"
"He said something odd - the majority of the people have evacuated further to the new shoreline? I figure we can ask him about that once we are finished with our mission. But Vin is right, people aren't already dying, they have about 15 hours left in our plane."
Elthana nods to Serafina and Vin, "If you think that's best, we'll get some rest and hopefully this task won't take too long, we really don't want to wait to the last minute - what if they have issues on their side once we get it to them?"
"Hog mentioned that. Did I not pass that on? It was on the letter that Sergor edited... 'the seas have receded, way past tide out. I don't know what's going on...' Hog wrote.A portal opened in the sea and sucking all the water away, perhaps?" Sam chimes in.
"Um, what happens if the sea comes back in suddenly, if they are camped at the new shoreline?", Vin asks, a little worried. "I hope they know what they are doing".
As they are settling down, he moves over to Sam, "I know this might not be the time or place, but I was wondering if we could maybe work on what we were talking about before. Using my blasts of energy to move things around whilst we take watch? If you don't mind that is"
"Sure, sure," Sam agrees readily enough. Watch can be pretty boring, having something to focus on may make it go faster. "We'll not want to make too much noise but I think to begin we'll just be focusing on balance and leverage and anticipation anyway..."
Muir finishes laying out his stuff and sits....Listening to the others talk about the receding shore lines he wonders if they pay attention to him when he speaks. Instead of telling them what is happening he for once stays silent on the issue "Well if you all want to sleep first, I would be happy to stay up first"
"Theory is good, I like theory", Vin replies thinking back to all those weeks at the academy studying. He takes out his notebook from his backpack, and his ink pen, "I will be ready to start when you are", he says excitedly. "Perhaps we can take first watch?".
Seeing that Vin and Sam had the first watch, "Have fun with your training, I hope it helps."she smiles at her friends as she gets ready to meditate. "Wake me when it is my turn." Elthana rubs her eyes like a little kid and takes her spot.
"I'm not going to pretend like I couldn't desperately use some shut eye. It feels like I've been up for five days straight. My eyes are itchy."Gewyn yawns and tries to find a comfortable place to settle himself. Finally, lying down with his spare clothes folded up under his head, he begins to hum a soft lullaby to himself.
Vin wanders over to Gewyn as he is settling down, with a favour to ask of yet another one of his companions.
"When we were learning to switch our gravity, I have the fuzzy recollection that you were able to teleport a short distance", he starts. "I was just wondering, if you have the energy and if it was a spell you cast to do that, if you could cast it into my ring", he adds, moving the pen to hold in the hand with his notebook and holding his ring hand up. "I think it will be really useful for me to have in the lightning fields, if it works".
During their watch Sam does indeed beging to explain to Vin what he believes are the basics of the push/pull dynamics in a fight. "I don't know exactly how your magics work and all but if there's any force to them at all then these tips should help you in choosing where to hit for certain effects and such," Sam qualifies, not wanting the kid to get overly hopeful on just how effective his teachings will be.
Semi-trusting Serafina to oversee the safety of the group in the spotting of things coming their way, at least, Sam focuses on Vin and showing him tips on balance and momentum, and using those things against opponents. "Sometimes it is just a matter of waiting for your foe to overextend themselves," and other such gems are the bulk of Sam's teachings, along with demonstrations and such. Knowing how protective Neferox can be, Sam generally volunteers himself as the one to be knocked on their butt rather than having the kid learn through taking some lumps.
At the end of the lessons, and their watch, Sam instructs Vin to get some rest and think about what was demonstrated. "We'll go over this all again and again and add more as you have some perfected, eh?" Sam assures. "I'll awaken the next watch..."
After Vin gets settled Sam goes to Elthana and gently awakens her. "Care to sit up on watch for a bit?" Sam asks with a bit of a smile. Once she's awake Sam will explain he's taking double duty so that maybe Gewyn can sleep through the night. "He's been looking rough lately, hasn't he? Think he's ok?"
Sam waves off any concern about his own exhaustion. "I'll be fine," he assures to any complaints. "At least better than him without some sleep, eh?"
Vin draws some diagrams in his notebook, along with the descriptions of the methods Sam describes, paying full attention to the teachings of the half orc. When it comes to the practical application, he follows Sam's lead, likely at first just exploring the dynamics at play as Sam does rather than with magic.
He assures Sam that there is plenty of force behind his magic, and decides to collect some objects to use for target practice. Perhaps some rocks or their crystal equivalent here.
For her part, Neferox soon becomes disinterested in the theory, choosing instead to sleep so she can watch over Vin when he eventually turns in. Which he does when Sam calls an end to the lessons. He goes to sleep content that the time spent practising has been productive, thanking Sam for helping.
With the lesson successful as it could be, vin learns a thing or two that could be of real practical use. The first watch goes by without incident, and Elthana is then woken.
Sam begins to feel the heaviness of the past few days here without sleep catching up to him (gain one exhaustion) and the two begin to speak, sitting on the edge of the break in the crystal that serves as their shelter, the tumultuous rumblings of the lightning fields flashing somewhere below their dangling feet, and the winds blowing past them obscures the noise of their conversation from those in the crevice who may be light sleepers.
Elthana stretches and shudders as she is woken up. She smiles shakily when she sees it is Sam and as she sits up, she looks over at Gewyn and nods, "Yeah, I've noticed it too." but then she frowns as she regards Sam, "I don't think it is such a good idea for you to gain exhaustion before we head into the lightning fields." She yawns again, clearly a bit shaken from her rest.
Sam stifles a yawn and does his best to hide his tiredness. "Let's face it, dodging lightning isn't going to be my strong suit whether I am tired or not, eh?" Sam says with a bit of a grin on his face. "Vin got me a potion that may help. May not. But my mindset is more to power through than to avoid. Oh, I'll try to avoid but not holding my breath on that..."
"But how's you doing with all this... stuff?" Sam asks. He supposes he's mainly asking about this clone and family business but that's Elthana's business to bring up or not. So Sam leaves the question vague and let's Elthana decide what she wants to address... If anything.
As the dream starts to resurface, she clutches at Sam's arm. Her nails dig in as she stares into his face, fear tormenting her features. She swallows, hard and tears start to well up in her eyes. She doesn't let go of his arms to wipe them away and they fall, unbidden.
"Sam... I did it. I killed them." she then frowns and shakes her head, "No... Nivara killed them, but I killed her. I did my job and I did it well as I always did and I killed that poor woman." The feelings of all that was shown to her in her dream rush forward and she falls against him, sobbing now. Sobbing for all those that have fallen, "Who was Nivara? I can't... I can't take much more of this."
"Hey... hey now, shhhhh... it's fine... It'll all be fine..." Sam says as comfortingly as he can though he's obviously uncomfortable at such an display of emotion, as well as Elthana grabbing his arms. Uncomfortable but not opposed.
Sam looks around to try to see who may be paying attention and shushes Elthana a bit more before before her a bit further away from Serafina and Griff in an attempt to be cautious.
"First thing first, eh? You are not Nirvara," Sam says soothingly, pulling Elthana closer to both offer support and comfort but also so they can keep their voices low. Sam then gets a bit more stern though keeping his voice hushed. "You. Are. Not. Nivara. Period. You are Elthana and whether you have anyone else in your head or not doesn't matter. You are you and you are a part of this team... this family. Were you somehow made from Nivara or of her or something? That weirdness is beyond me but it doesn't matter anyway. Just as a child is their own person no matter how much a parent may try to live through them, so are you your own person no matter what anyone else tries to put upon you. Don't shoulder someone else's burden. Ever. The most you should do is help them shoulder their own... And only then if they deserve it, eh? And trust me, the whole group is willing to help you with yours..."
"Well, maybe not Neferox, eh?" Sam adds with a smirk. "Never can tell about them..."
"So do you have... Memories of Nivara's? Of her doing this destruction?" Sam asks, unsure if that is what she means or not. "And ok... You killed her. No offense, dearie-o, but sounds like maybe she needed killing? But... What do you mean it was your job? Who gave you this job?"
((Of course Elthana can interrupt and add or run off or whatever at any point... But given the chance this is where Sam is going...))

Sam opens one eyelid and looks over to Elthana. "Are people actively dying while we wait or...?" If so, Sam obviously thinks we should push through.
"I think if Elthana knew that people were already dying, she would have told us that we don't have time to stop", Vin replies, looking to Elthana confident in what she will say.
