Muir turns to Griff and looks at the book shelves “Perhaps you can show me a few books on the planes and what happened 4000 years ago in the great planar war?”
"You and yours, certainly deserve praise for this great feat of marvelous mapping," Gewyn says. "And I think I could read primordial if I needed to..." He starts walking towards the wall leading up to the ceiling.
Elthana stares up at the ceiling, trying to comprehend what she is seeing. "Noo..." she says almost offhand when Akiin ask if she reads Auran or Primordial. But she can't tear her eyes away from the map. "This is quite something." She finally says, could be taken as a compliment if Akiin so chooses.
She finally tears her eyes away, and impatiently, "So your sister? Were you going to try and contact her?"
"Quite amazing and intriguing," Sam offers as praise though in truth he can't make very much out of them. Oh he sees the circles and such but a map should show you how to get to one place to another, not just that different things exist? "It's quite a feat of mapmakery. Compliments to the artist."
Sam side-eyes Elthana and gives her a shrug when Akiin isn't looking in an attempt to indicate that's he's just puffing the guy up and he really doesn't get what is being shown.
"Yes, yes... You're sister," Sam agrees. "Though I can't see how she could be more helpful than you yourself..."
As Gewyn takes a bit of time he manages to also get himself perpendicular to the group and start walking up the wall to look at the map of planar circles more closely.
Akiin's smile widens at the compliments, "AH YES SHENOH, SHE WILL BE OF HELP IF SHE HAS PASSED THE BROKEN ISLE RECENTLY. THE THING WITH ISLANDS THAT ARE ALWAYS FALLING AND MOVING AROUND IS THAT YOU CAN NEVER TELL WHERE YOU ARE IN RELATION TO SOMETHING ELSE, SHE HAS A CLOSER EYE ON THE MOVEMENTS, ONE OF HER 'NAVIGATORS' SHOULD KNOW WHERE IT IS HEADING. YES!" and he excitedly resumes the ritual he performs at his polished communication table.
Up on the wall Griff shrugs at Muir, "I am not knowing about a great planar war, when the planes were connected it was before I was being born, many many many generations ago, no one is knowing why the portals closed though, maybe Vox Tontritor is knowing. Though only the djiin are being allowed see her. I am having no doubts that Akiin will let you read the books here as much as you like, but do not be taking any, they are being old, hard to make, and expensive..." after looking around the room walking in various surfaces Griff returns to Muir with a book. "Here maybe this book will be helping"
The colours on the polished table swirl faster and faster and this time a voice rings out, another Djiin more purple than blue in colour and very much female can be seen looking at Akiin. The pair talk back and forth in giant for a short while, the group can tell that despite the pair being siblings, Shenoh seems more practical and militaristic than Akiin's happy go lucky demeanour, and she seems exasperated by the communication to say the least.
"COME GATHER ROUND!" Akiin shouts to the members of the group still on the floor, and looks back to the communication "THESE FOLK SPEAK THE TRADE LANGUAGE SISTER! TELL THEM OF YOUR FINDINGS"
As the group gather round the massive woman looking through the mirror like surface of the table audibly sighs, "hello there travellers, my navigators try to keep track of the directions and speeds of each isle, and by their best estimates the broken isles should be passing within a days travel of Gojiin within a week... Luckily for you, you should be able to get to Gojiin before that if you travel due south east in a day from now... Is this understood? This is the information you will have to provide to whatever form of transport you decide to take.." Akiin chuckles and sighs too "IT HAD TO BE GOJIIN, THATS JUST TYPICAL. OK THANK YOU SHENOH! YOU TAKE CARE NOW! PRAISE VOX TONTRITOR AND ALL THAT!" and before Shenoh can answer Akiin lifts his hands and abruptly ends the communication. The oil slick colours of the table slow to a lazy drifting and Akiin looks up to Muir and Gewyn on the wall. "HOW ARE YOU FINDING IT?"
The pair talk back and forth in giant for a short while, the group can tell that despite the pair being siblings, Shenoh seems more practical and militaristic than Akiin's happy go lucky demeanour, and she seems exasperated by the communication to say the least.
(Speaking Giant, Sam raises an eyebrow when he unexpectedly hears it being used and tries not to make it obvious he pays special attention to every word said...)
"Do we have time for this?" Sam asks turning to the others but perhaps Elthana most of all. She of the treasury should be good with numbers, how time works here compared to there should be part of that yes? "At least a week to even get to the islands and then who knows how long finding and procuring the load stone will take? Then we still must find a way home, if these moving islands even allow for such a thing..."
"Informative indeed!" Gewyn calls down. "I look forward to the enlightened conversations Muir and I may share over what we learn here. But it is not lost on me that we are here for more important matters. So one day from now is the soonest we can get to Gojin?" Gewyn taps his foot nervously. "And just how much time was it that we likely have left?"
Elthana finds the exchange between the siblings interesting. She also feels a stab in her heart that she didn't expect. Siblings.. what's that like? Are all siblings like that? she thinks... almost in a daze until Sam pulls her out of her reverie.
"Enough time? Well let's see. We've been here for about 10 hours, and being conservative, we want to save the city before 320 hours is up. That gives us about 13 days to get the lodestone back to Marblestead. From what Shenoh is saying, we have to wait here a day but arrive at Gojiin within 3 days from now. Then one day to get to the broken isle, which is four total days from now..." she looks to Akiin, "Do we need to travel back the same way in the same amount of time after getting the lodestone or will the islands have shifted and we need another way back? If it takes us 3 days to get back, we're looking at only 5 days to figure out what the hell we're doing on the broken isles and get the lodestone."
"SOUNDS LIKE YOU'VE GOT LOADS OF TIME HAHA! THE TRIO BACK MIGHT BE LONGER BUT MAYBE NOT TOO MUCH DEPENDING ON HOW LONG YOU TAKE THERE SND HOW YOU OLAN ON ARRIVING! THERE ARE PLENTY OF TRADERS THAT WILL LIKELY BE GOING TO GOJIIN IF ITS PASSING SO CLOSE. GRIFF! YOU WILL BE JOINING THESE FOLK TO GOJIIN IS THAT OK?" Akiin grins at Griff who is still standing on the wall with Muir and Gewyn, the Aarakocra's shoulders slump in response and after a short back and forth in the chirping windy language Griff appears to agree, more out of militaristic loyalty than actually wanting to go. "Are you all being happy with me showing you around and going with you to Gojiin?"
Muir claps Griff on the back "I would be most happy. I enjoy our talks and I feel I have so much more to learn about your world."Muir leafs through the book Griff gave him to see what language it is in before calling down to the others "Master Akiin, do you mind if I borrow this book for the journey? Some light reading always helps to clear the mind"
"WHICH ONE IS IT?" Akiin calls back but sees the cover of the book and a look of realisation crosses his face "AHH, SOME HISTORY AND A LITTLE BIT OF RELIGION HAHA! SEE THAT IT IS RETURNED AND YOU CAN TAKE IT WITH YOU, THESE BOOKS TAKE AN AGE TO MAKE AND ARE RARE! OK EVERYONE IM DONE HERE AND WE NEED TO FIND YOU ALL SOME TRANSPORT FOR A DAY FROM NOW, RIGHT? YOU CAN COME BACK HERE ANY TIME, MY PEOPLE WILL LET YOU IN, ESCORT YOU AROUND AND TELL ME IF YOU NEED ME! WHO'S FOR BREAKFAST?"
Muir takes the book and puts it in his bag for later. "Breakfast sounds wonderful, perhaps we can take it to go? It seems we are under some time restraints. Oh...Before we get moving, is the loadstone heavy or big? Will it be easy to transport? That is what we came for I believe but if we don't have the means to transport it, well...." Muir stops figuring the others already know of the disaster it would cause
"I think we have to wait a day to leave, so a meal sounds grand," Sam responds. "Though we shouldn't dawdle too much before arranging our travel means... Still, plenty of time to eat and be told just how big a piece of this load stone we shall need..."
Sam then looks around to see if everyone is in agreement or not. "If nothing else, best to find some feed for Boris and Órga... They're tame enough, I guess... When not hungry."
Elthana notices Griff's reluctance and she's a little disappointed. Though she supposed he is happy to be back with his family finally and now whisked away again so soon? She can understand that. "Yes Griff, would be great if you could join us. We'll try and get back as soon as possible."
"Breakfast would be wonderful, thank you. And then if Griff isn't too busy, some flying lessons would be good I suppose, if it will help us maneuver better on the Broken Isles?"
Then turning back to Akiin, she starts twisting her hands in agitation but asks, "Would there be any books on the time that Sergor and Hector were here?"
"JOIN US GRIFF, YOU CAN TAKE THESE TO VISIT YOUR FAMILY BEFORE YOU GO, SAY YOUR FAREWELLS AND HAVE THESE ASSURE YOUR WIFE OF YOUR QUICK RETURN" Griff nods and follows along as Akiin leads the group back through the crystal courtyard and back into the main section of the building. Through halls of crystal and up some stairs to a large room in which one of the walls extend beyond the bounds of the room as a massive balcony which overlooks a city below.
The group take a fluffy cloud seat at the long crystal table and are served a familiar breakfast in this odd land. On your plates are fried eggs, though larger than usual, some kind of fried leafy green, a stringy meat that seems to have come from some kind of bird and fried mushrooms also quite large.
Akiin continues, "THE LODESTONE'S SIZE COMPLETELY DEPEND UPON WHICH PART YOU TAKE, THEY ARE BONES AFTER ALL. A KNUCKLE IS WHAT SERGOR WAS GIFTED, I ASSUME YOU SAW THE SIZE OF THAT? ABOUT TWO FOOT IN DIAMETER. YES?" he turns to Elthana and regards her previous question "SERGOR AND HECTOR ARRIVED AS THIS PLANE WAS UNDERGOING SOME CHANGES, THEIR ARRIVAL AND MISSION HERE WEREN'T OF SUCH CONSEQUENCE THAT WAS WORTH WRITING DOWN HOWEVER I CAN TELL YOU OF WHAT HAPPENED BACK THEN.
THE DRAGON LUMITHOR, SON OF THE GREAT GIANT SORCERESS VOX TONTRITOR, WAS TASKED WITH GUARDING THE GATES TO THE SHADOWFELL FOR EONS, BUT AROUND THAT TIME, SHORTLY AFTER SERGOR LEFT, LUMITHOR GREW GREEDY, YOU SEE LUMITHOR WAS BORN AFTER THE IMPRISONMENT OF NECTYRAN, AN ABHORRENT GOD OF IMMORTALITY AND IMBALANCE WHO ROAMED THE PLANES BEFORE VOX TONTRITOR PUT THEM AWAY FOR GOOD. BUT BECAUSE OF LUMITHOR'S BIRTH AFTER SUCH AN EVENT IT MEANT THAT EVEN WITH THE LIFESPAN OF A DRAGON HE WAS DESTINED TO DIE. HE MADE PLANS TO EXTRICATE NECTYRAN, AND DISRUPT THE LIFE FLOW OF THIS REALM, BUT WHEN VOX TONTRITOR HEARD OF THIS BETRAYAL, SHE STRUCK HIM DOWN FROM HER CASTLE IN THE THUNDER CLOUDS ABOVE, BOTH KILLING HER OWN SON BUT ALSO BREALING THE ISLAND THAT HELD THE GATE TO THE SHADOWFELL... THIS WAS SEEN AS HERESY FROM THE KOBOLDS OF THIS REALM WHO REVERED LUMITHOR AS THEIR GOD. THEY GATHERED AROUND HIS CORPSE AND FORMED THE CULT THAT WE ARE FACING TODAY, THEIR ONLY MISSION IS TO REPAIR THE GATE, AND RELEASE NECTYRAN SO THAT THEY MAY REVIVE LUMITHOR, BUT THEY CANNOT, AT THE TIME OUR ONLY SUCCESSFUL MISSION TO THE BROKEN ISLE RETURNED US ONE OF THE BONES OF LUMITHOR, AND AS INSTRUCTED BY VOX TONTRITOR,I HID IT AWAY IN ANOTHER PLANE, LEAVING IT IN THE HANDS OF MY FRIEND SERGOR.
AMD THATS THE STORY! WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK? COOL HUH!?
THE ONLY TOUGH THING ABOUT IT US THAT THE KOBOLD BREED LIKE NOBODY'S BUSINESS THEIR NUMBERS ARE VAST, AND ON TOP OF THAT VOX TONTRITOR WANTS AS MANY BODIES OF THESE KOBOLDS SENT TO HER, AS IN TACT AS POSSIBLE. I BELIEVE SHE IS EXTRACTING INFORMATION FROM THEIR KIND, THE WAY THAT ONLY A STORM SORCERESS WOULD KNOW HOW... BUT THAT IS ONLY A GUESS, MY SIBLINGS AND I WERE TOLD NOT TO ASSAULT TYE BROKEN ISLE ANYMORE AFTER MY FIGHTER'S ONLY SUCCESSFUL MISSION, WE ARE SIMPLY TO DEFEND OUT ISLANDS AS WE SEE FIT AGAINST THE SPIES AND THE MACHINATIONS OF THE FERALS WHO STILL DWELL ON THE BROKEN ISLE..."
Griff stays quiet for this story, eating through it but he also seems to harbour a hate for the kobolds that cannot be hidden from his face.
"So you just let these cultist Kobolds have the body of their god and the island it resides on? No attempt to curtail them so long as they stay there?" Sam asks, curious about the restraint shown.
"If you have been told not to attack them would our doing so cause trouble? Not that it is our goal but I can imagine on how our taking a part of what they worship will lead to conflict..."
"THEY ARE ALREADY IN CONFLICT WITH US, AND YOU ARE NOT MY FIGHTERS, AS FAR AS I'M CONCERNED YOU CAN GO THERE AS YOU PLEASE AND I SILL STILL BE KEEPING MY WORD TO VOX TONTRITOR... BESIDES, IF YOU BRING A LOT OF KOBOLD BODIES BACK YOU'LL BE REWARDED AND LIKELY CELEBRATED!" Akiin grins and takes a hearty bite of a chunk of meat on his plate.
Elthana listens to Akiin's story and wonders the same thing Sam asks. "Do you have a direction on the best way to find more of Lumithor's bones on the broken islands? Or will it be pretty obvious?" She tries to understand the story as best she can and asks, "This Nectyran, he is imprisoned in the Shadowfell plane?"
