Muir listens and unable to contain himself asks several questions
"Master Akiin since we have some time, if I may ask several questions about the current trip and past trips?" Muir doens't wait for the affirmative to proceed "You mention Sergor and Hector, I don't know who Hector is but no matter...You say Sergor and this Hector came here and was gifted a knuckle....How long ago was this? This was not the first time Sergor visited? When was the first time? How did you become friends that he was gifted such a relic?" Muir exhales and pauses and waits for answers before continuing with questions
Gewyn stirs food idly around on his plate. Then a concerning thought strikes him and sits him upright in his seat. "This Shadowfell... is it another plane? It wouldn't happen to be this one here, would it?"Gewyn says, conjuring up an illusory image of the map they'd seen of the planes on the surface of the cloud table, and pointing to the oval that loops around Thaeir and the Mortal plane.
Elthana stabs her fork onto her plate making a very loud sound and glares at Muir. "You haven't asked me a damn thing about MY mentor when we have had time and we will have all day, when I have things to tell you, but you haven't even bothered to ask. But you ask HIM, this stranger instead. You call yourself my friend?" She throws her fork down, and storms out of the room.
As Elthana storms out Akiin gives Muir a shrug and a look as if to say, "It's not my place to say, I guess" and then he looks with interest at the image contoured by Gewyn, "AHHHH THAT'S POSSIBLE! IVE NEVER REALLY THOUGHT TO LOOK INTO IT. HAHA"
Muir blinks and looks at the others and then down at his food "It seems I have upset her. I wonder who is next... I should go talk to her, yes?" Muir gets up slowly hoping for any words of advice. Muir is not used to these social settings, and other species within those settings outside of the Keepers. Although he has been traveling with these folks, what does he know about any of them really other than what he has deduced on his own....He doesn't know them personally like Gore and the other Keepers. If Gore had a problem, he talked about it. Muir recounts this one time Gore and he....Muir stops his thoughts and refocuses....The Keepers have dealt with sick species, farming, tending to animals, etc. etc. for as long as Muir knows, but they never got involved in the feelings of others. They were not mediators or arbiters for the poor folk across Northmorrah. Calming or even understanding anyone's feelings that didn't have to deal with illness or nature is not one of Muir's strong suits....Muir walks out to the hallway looking for Elthana.
Sam rolls his eyes and sighs. When Muir starts to leave Sam would try to intercept him and gently put a restraining hand upon his arm.
"Let me," he offers instead. "I'm sure you have plenty more questions for our host. Just... try to not poke around anyone's histories until you know what you're poking at, eh?"
If Muir insists on going after her himself Sam will of course defer. Sam is eager to go back and talk about falling islands and shadow planes and other things he doesn't understand. If, however, Muir is more curious than apologetic then Sam will happily instead give chase after Elthana. At a brisk walk, at best. Up could be down at any moment so running may not be the wisest course of action. Besides, if she is actually fleeing then she doesn't want to be caught up to...
If / when Sam does catch up to Elthana he approaches slowly. He's mostly slowed down by his internal debate on whether he should clear his throat or not in oder to announce his presence. It seems a bit foolish to him but he thinks it's a thing people do in these situations? Not that he would have seen it in movies or anything. Hell, he probably never even read it in (or even a) book. But somehow he feels it is appropriate... But he also has no doubt she's heard his oafish footsteps plodding after her for several minutes now so he just cannot decide on the correct course of action...
"Thanks," Sam finally just blurts out. "I didn't want to be rude to Akiin or anything but all that talk and all was making me feel like I was a student again... And never having been one I was mighty confused."
Muir stops and looks at Sam “You are probably better at this than me but I feel like I should go…Perhaps some advice? I’m not too arrogant to think I know how to help. I humble myself before you” Muir bows and hopes for some sage advice from Sam
Sam shrugs and defers. "By all means," Sam says. "My advice would be to say less... Smile more. Let her do the talking or complaining or the yelling she feels need, you just listen and accept her point of view. Whether you agree with it or not it is hers and she has the right to have it. Listen. Accept. Don't argue or explain... At least until she asks you to."
As Sam retakes his seat at the table Akiin looks over and asks "WHAT'S ALL THAT ABOUT? EITHER WAY THAT ARMOUR YOU HAVE THERE, THATS INTERESTING, IS THAT GIANT SCRIPT ON THE SHOULDERS?"
"Shoot, I had something to ask him,"Gewyn says as Muir leaves. But he takes a moment to think. As serious of a revelation he has just had, he recognizes he'd been too caught up in his own stuff to notice Elthana's turmoil. Just so tired, he thinks to himself, quickly feeling shame at his continued self-centeredness.
"Wha... My armor?" Sam asks. "Thank you, I helped craft it myself." He is rightfully proud of it.
"Giant script?" He continues, feigning confusion. (Deception 7) "Could be... Could be. Thought the design needed a bit something and so we chose designs that we thought fit the scheme..." (lol, was thinking I would have adv on the deception... then remembered exhaustion. Grrr)
"So what were you going to ask Muir?" Sam quickly asks Gewyn trying to change the subject, knowing he was on shaky ground with his lie.
Akiin leans back in his chair and smiles at Sam, "THOSE DESIGNS? THEY'RE DELIBERATE HAHA YOU WANT TO MAKE YOURSELF LOOK LIKE A GIANT KIN RUNECARVER, YES? IT IS A GRAND TRIBUTE AND THE FOLLOWERS OF VOX TONTRITOR WILL LOOK KINDLY UPON IT." he chuckles though Sam would understand that Akiin assumes that the Sam is merely decorated as a rune knight.
Vin clears his throat hesitantly, he has been quiet most of the morning on account of the embarrassment and sadness still evident in him from Neferox's attack the night before. Neferox herself is curled up under the table by vin's chair, alert but more docile than usual, giving the odd sneer every so often toward Orga. "Um, I uhh, I've been thinking about the time crunch that we are on... I think I have an idea but I'm not sure it will work. The bag that hog gave us, we still have it right, Sam? If we are able to send things through that bag between planes then I think when we find this dragons bones uhh Lumithor was it? We just need to pick one as big as possible that will still fit in the bag. If we send it to hog he can get it to Mister Hamilton and we won't need to worry about rushing back... Right? I know that's a lot of 'Ifs' but I could work."
"Hmm? Oh I was just wondering if Muir thought the Shadowfell might work in parallel to the ethereal plane that our home appears to border on. I was going through a thought experiment in my head to better understand how all of this works."Gewyn says, making very direct and meaningful eye contact with Sam as he says his next line. "Say, for example, someone had the ability to poke their head through to the ethereal realm and take a look about when they were in the Mortal plane. I would imagine that, by doing the same thing here, one may, to their surprise, find themselves looking into the Shadowfell instead."
He looks back to Akiin. "It's hard to say of course, since I'm really no great mind in these matters, but just a hypothetical I thought of."
"Magic," Sam replies to Gewyn and gives him a shrug. "In my experience it has a lot more to do with how it was made than the logic of it. Maybe one would peek out the same no matter which plane, perhaps whatever plane is closest or whichever has the same moon phase... It's why I find hitting things so much simpler."
"Oh sure, sure," Sam replies to Akiin. "Copied designs, didn't mean to say it was accidental. Just that I don't understand them, just thought they would look good..."
Sam nods thoughtfully as Vin talks. "I believe Muir has the bag... We should test it once he's back. Could include a note to Hog explaining what is going on and what we would need him to do." Looking to the animals all but littering the place Sam adds "We should also ask him about moving living creatures through it."
"that's a good idea!" Vin smiles, happy to be helpful. Turning to Gewyn's topic of conversation he thinks for a moment, "what is the ethereal plane like? From your best guess Gewyn... I think the way to see if this shadowfell place is similar would be to compare the two." With a nervous glance to Akiin he adds, "theoretically of course, we won't be opening any prison gates for immortal gods."
Akiin himself seems happy with Sam's explanation and gets back to finishing off his breakfast, when he is done he gets up and walks on over to the massive balcony and looks out over the descending city before him.
"Come to think of it, I think it is a two-way portal, isn't it?" Sam asks to Vin, though he is kind of just thinking aloud. "It is a shame it isn't bigger. Imagine Neferox sneaking into a place and then dropping the bag so we could all crawl out of it... Heh, that would be handy indeed!"
"we could test it with hootie if you're willing" Vin offers excitedly to Sam.
At this point Muir and Elthana wander back into the dining room to finish breakfast. Elthana's eyes are slightly reddened but other than that they both appear very normal and composed.
Akiin leans on the balcony and gestures for those finished with their meals to join him. "COME, SEE MY CITY AND MY LANDS, SEE HOW THE LIGHT FROM THE VAST GLEAMS THROUGH THE LAND ITSELF, CRYSTALLINE AS IT IS. WE GET POWER AND LEATHERS AND SPORES FROM CAPTURED HAFGUFA, WE FARM THE VAPOR STREAMS FOR WATER AND AGRICULTURE. WE TRADE WITH THE OTHER LANDS WHEN WE CAN AND WE THRIVE MORE THAN OTHERS, THIS IS A PRIVILEGED AND HONOURED LAND."
Muir smiles at the notion of agriculture and seeing how they grow things in the sky "Hafgufa? I saw that you had beautiful Hellebores like flowers outside, are they Hellebores or a variation to your world? I must know, how do you grow such flowers in the, well what would be the sky for us, in your lands?" For those with any sort of perceptive ability, they would notice that Muir doesn't ask anymore questions about portals, Sergor, Vincent's questionable lineage and demon dog
"We could... IF I knew I would draw Hootie next," Sam agrees with Vin. "Normally it would be worth a gamble but I'm not sure if it's a good idea here. They normally disappear at dawn and that is when I can summon more. This... land? Does it even have a dawn? I don't know if Órga and Boris even will disappear. If the next I draw is the last I will draw while we are here I don't know if I should draw now to experiment or wait til perhaps we have a real need..."
Sam is considering this when Muir and Elthana return. Sam's eyes narrow upon seeing Elthana's eyes are red and he almost... but doesn't. If the two hadn't sorted things out then certainly they wouldn't have returned together. Sam isn't entirely sure Muir would have returned at all. But before Muir can get to the inevitable questioning he inevitably will start up with again, Sam grabs his attention and asks of he can have the magic bag for a minute or three. "We want to send through a message or two... Give Hog a heads up that we may send a load stone his way and what to do with it..." Sam also asks if Muir knows if the portal of the bag goes both ways or not... And if he knows exactly how the objects come out the other end. (Phrasing?) In particular, if they appear resting on a solid surface, fall from a height or it it depends where the other end is positioned or...?
If Muir has no objection then Sam will take the bag, write up a note to Hog and then send the note through. The note explains the desire to send a load stone through and for Hog then to rush the item directly to the Treasury and Sergor and Sigrid specifically... "Hey, Elthana! Any special code word or anything Hog would need to gain entrance?" Sam asks and adds any such relevant information. Sam also inquires (if Muir doesn't know) about the questions above. "I suppose if we get no answer then it is just sending items one way... Or you're just not watching..." Sam also stresses the importance of Hog to keep watch on the other end, the delivery of this load stone must happen as soon as possible for everyone's sake...
Busy writing the note, and not being the best with letters and writing to begin with, Sam ignores Akiin bragging about his territory and their accomplishments as well as what Muir is questioning, or not questioning, now...
