Meanwhile Sam, not having any clue what Serafina is saying, translates to Elthana...
"He would like you to do everything you can to remember Nivara's intention in attacking. If the goal was freeing Nectyran then he is curious why she never returned to try again... Knowing why Nivara attacked but never returned could be helpful, I guess," Sam relays.
Muir listens to Sam and his eyes widen “No, no, no, that will not do. Tell him she wanted to cheat death because her brother died and the great and powerful Lumithor stopped Nivara from reaching that but not stopping her from trying. Shes up on Vox’s castle in the sky researching and causing havoc all over the realm”
Hearing Serafina's warning to Lumithor, and not hearing anyone pass that on to Elthana, Vin points in her direction and whispers, "Be careful with your decision to reclaim Nivara's memory. Serafina has argued that it could be dangerous and change who you are permanently. But then what does she know, I for one, believe you can handle it".
He then looks to Sam as he seems unsure about their knowledge of Nivara, "The scrying revealed her location".
"no no, my duty was my reasoning for stopping her" lumithor says, confused by all the back and forth, he begins leaning in closer to Sam to focus on his source of information from the group. But glances to vin nodding at his input, "grief does terrible things, that much I am aware of, especially for those who refuse the Raven Queen's teaching... I grow more concerned however and I have an idea for how we could all benefit from a little research excursion. You mentioned that you are all heroes, fighters in your fields capable of great things yes?"
Elthana wants to help, she really does in any way she can. She smiles at Vin and after the first bone goes through the bag, she sits down, the weight of the conversation heavy on her. "Remember Nivara's intentions? I don't have her feelings, her wants, thank the gods to be honest. I have what she has shown me in my dreams, my nightmares. But that is more... almost bragging of the horrors she has done? I think because she was denied entrance to Nectyran she collected these souls out of spite. But her reasoning behind it? I think it started because of her brother's death. She became obsessed with death, needing to escape it, conquer it. And I'm assuming her travels led her here? But like I said, I don't have her memories."
Sam is getting a bit lost in the translating and who he should be translating to who but the main focus does seem to be about Elthana and seeing and hearing the weight upon her Sam pays special focus to her and does his best to translate her words directly into Giant for Lumithor as she speaks...
"Yes... Yes," Sam says distractedly to the Face once he's finished with Elthana's words. "Heroes... fighters... each capable in our own ways, sure. Not invincible but we've done more good than harm..."
"I see, I see. Then if motive cannot be found without serious danger if even at all, and the fate of my mother is still little more than an educated guess. I have a way to find information for us all. Consider it a favour, a gift instead of taking your bag of animal balls, hm?
My duty is to see to it that this gate is guarded indefinitely. But if you take over, just for a few minutes, I can fly to my mother's castle, observe her fate and return as fast as lightning itself.
What do you say? Can you do me this favour, You can discuss with your group, but you have nothing else to do whilst we wait for the return of my stolen bone. It would benefit the both of us." Lumithor grins wide, happy with himself as he reveals his grand idea.
As Gewyn, Vin and Sam hear this proposition they cannot help but look toward the gate, a blue crystal arch which is filled with nothing but shadows that gently lick out into the room before dissipating like smoke, an eerie calm from a place that has been describes as such a foreboding threat.
“We’d of course be willing to stand guard for a time,” Sam answers without consulting anyone. “But… I mean… we’re just people. Heroes, sure but.., people…”
“Besides, aren’t you kind of trapped here?” Sam asks, indicating the dragons back end which seems fused with o the cave. “And hey, if you got chiseled out would you be more mobile?”
"oh my bones would stay here, they only anchor my spirit to this place, without it I would move on to the next place and leave this realm unguarded, but my spirit is only bound to this room by duty..." As Lumithor speaks this to Sam the small shards that make up the face begin to slow and separate into the vague outline of a draconic head, and through the gaps the group catch sight of a glowing yellow orb which rises from it's hiding place within the skull of the dragon. It rises up, meeting Sam in front of the now less constructed facsimile of a crystal head and continues speaking, "this is me, or I suppose what is left. Without all the pageantry and grandeur I am but a mote of consciousness in spirit form, as mobile as I've ever been, but alas, I've not had the change to leave in eons"
"Well I can only speak for myself but I promise that, until you return, nothing shall pass through the portal one way or another unchallenged by me," Sam agrees. "I doubt I can replace you but I can stand in your place... And I shall ask the same of my companions."
Switching to Common Sam does just that. He explains that Lumithor, or their spirit or whatever, wishes to fly up to his mother's castle to check the situation... But he would like us to stand guard in his place while he is gone. "I have agreed to the task for myself... But I would not pledge you all to the task without checking with you first..."
"It would certainly be a way to get answers", Vin muses. "And I couldn't exactly let you do it by yourself", he adds to Sam, but he does look a little uncertain.
He turns to Lumithor, "You are certain you can learn all you need to in just a few minutes? What if Nivara is aware you have left your post, and has means to get here before you can get back?".
Elthana looks at the portal that they are being requested to guard, "Do you think we can handle it? What if... what if we are overrun and the dragon is blamed for it? What if we make things worse? What if Nivara has a way of keeping Lumithor there and we are stuck here to perform his duty forever?" She shakes her head at all her doubt, "I'm sorry. I will do whatever the groups wants, I just..." and she trails off not wanting to say 'not myself' for fear what Serafina might make of that turn of phrase.
Muir nods "Elthana has some very valid concerns....There are a lot of unanswered questions...How do we keep things from coming through the gate? How long of a flight is it to the castle in the sky?"
"I get the sense that there's not actually a lot of attempts at the gate," Sam says and then asks in Giant "How often does someone try to use the portal anyway? Would anything know you snuck a way a moment and jump at the chance?"
"As for Lumithor being blamed, I think his reputation already took quite a hit and he sees this as his best chance to recoup it. I trust him to know what he is asking..."
"The idea that maybe the new guard could be stuck here did occur to me. I always see the worst case scenario... As for that I would propose that only I officially accept the responsibility of replacing Lumithor. No sense us all getting stuck."
"if I see anything attempting to cone here from Vox's castle I'll turn around, I promise, as for being trapped I'm Uhhh... not exactly corporeal.
The gate itself remains in a state of dormancy because of my presence, but whilst I'm gone there's no telling what will come through, but it is likely will attempt. One thing I can guarantee though, is that whatever comes through cannot be larger than say 25ft tall, they just won't fit, in all my time I have never seen it happen.
I have faith in you and your group, I will try to be quick, I hope this answers the concerns that you have." Lumithor's mote of spirit speaks out to Sam
Sam takes up a position next to where the dragon bones stand, looking in much the same direction, and stands at the ready.
"They promise to return if the see or suspect danger headed our way. He says he's not trapped here - Not really having a body and being just spirit kind of leaves him free to do what he will in that sense, but his duty keeps him here..." Sam explains. "He does warn that something may try to come through from the portal to here, with him gone. But not to worry, it'll be small. If it was too big it wouldn't fit...."
"Unless it was all squishy and squeezable like some kind of octopus kraken," Sam adds slightly to himself... And gulps.
With the rest of the party left to digest Sam's translation, (apart from Vin and Gewyn) the mote of light infront of Sam bobs momentarily as if preparing itself and then suddenly and with astounding speed it shoots upwards through the chimney like hole in this orb of an isle, left behind by the lightning strike which killed Lumithor.
It becomes instantly clear what effect Lumithor's presence had on this crystal orb. In the moment that his presence left three things happen.
First, the small floating crystals that had been hazardous to breath in and had also been used for Lumithor's facsimile jof a face, suddenly fall, clattering to the floor.
Second, the entire crystal orb begins being struck from the outside by powerful lightning strikes which shake the ground you are standing on, as it seems Lumithor's presence had been protecting the orb from the lightning fields themselves.
Lastly, the shadows which lingered and whipped about like smoke within the gateway now bubbles and pops like a blackened surface of boiling water.
Serafina unsheathes her sword in preparation, eyes locked on the gateway, "this is a bad idea, we should not have let him go..." She states loudly and nervously.
Griff, still standing atop the shrine to the Raven Queen draws his long bow and an arrow, pointing towards the gateway and shouts back, "it is being to late now... Now we guard this realm, together."
But as the gateway bubbles aggressively, lightning crashes against the outside of the orb and the ground shakes beneath you, nothing else happens.
"Not left me here," Sam answers Elthana. "Just wanted you all free to leave if need be. If some wacky curse was placed on me, I would need you all to find out how to break it..."
Then crap starts going to hell...
"Bad idea, maybe," Sam answers Serafina. "But when an undead god dragon asks for a favor... You say yes!"
And during all this answering and crap going to hell, Sam tries to look everywhere at once...

"Wait... What?" Sam asks, confused by the interruption. "Uhhh..."
"She is up on Vox's castle in the sky?" Sam repeats in Giant, looking for confirmation from Muir. "Researching and causing havoc..."
"Oh, errr..." Sam says in a mix of common and giant. Some things go across languages. Such as confusion...
"We know Nivara is up in Vox's castle?" Sam asks Muir, in common again. "When did we learn that?"
"Umm, Muir is explaining that Nivara went into a tizzy because her brother died," Sam continues, in Giant again. "That is why you had to stop her?"
Hearing Serafina's warning to Lumithor, and not hearing anyone pass that on to Elthana, Vin points in her direction and whispers, "Be careful with your decision to reclaim Nivara's memory.
