As Soot attempts to exit the tent where he was taken, he runs into the midst of four goblins and two hobgoblins. Two of the goblins and a hobgoblin hit for a total of 19 hp damage, and Soot falls.
Meanwhile, Bolin and Deragor run into a similar group. Vlar, Audun, and Prim are able to take a few out from a distance, but they are quickly replaced by more. Bolin takes 24 hp damage, and Deragor takes only half as much (12 hp).
Deragor feels like he's just drifting with the tide. A few moments later, they escape through the gap cut in the tent. As they tried to escape the goblin-infested place, the relatively clear open narrow corridor began to close in. A small group of goblinoids blocked the way. [We can't fight all of them.] - he thought to himself - [Must. Run.]
Deragor use his disengage action and try to run past the goblinoids, away from the command tent. He kept his orb chest under his armpit.
Vlar continues his same tactics, staying at a distance, sending blasts of fire in to help out those trying to get away from the tent. If goblins move towards him, then he would move away further, even if that means not being able to help those trying to flee. He values his own freedom more than helping the others out.
Bolin tosses the crate in the direction of the range players and flies into a frenzied rage and goes for the nearest goblins to buy some time for the others once they pass him he will start to back up and escape with the rest
(Since Deragor has done his turn and Soot is down I’m doing my turn.)
Running close to only half of a quiver remaining Audun fires one last crossbow bolt towards the goblin he hit earlier near the party, hoping to draw there attention to his bolts so that perhaps they could grab some on the way out. He then repositions, moving to within speaking distance of Vlar. “This battle is lost, let us leave while we still have unbroken legs. We should head to Freeport and get reinforcements.”
Deragor and Bolin are still in melee with the goblins. They are about 100 feet from Prim, who is hiding behind a tent. They are not yet past the outer circle of tents and have about four goblins and two hobgoblins on each of them.
Prim will not be able to get to Soot without going through several squads of goblinoids.
Prim will cast Fire Bolt at the tent nearest the guys. She's trying to hit the opposite side of the tent, like if they're on the left, she aims for the right.
7 to hit. I'll wait to roll damage till I hear it hits.
Meanwhile, thinking of next action.
The range of a Sleep is 90 ft
Can Prim move 10 ft closer to cast the spell without getting caught?
Can she hear anything in the tent she's hiding behind?
OOC: This has gone completely differently than I expected. I have nerfed the encounter quite a bit. If I had played this as written, your whole group would have been dead or captured within the first couple of rounds. I'm not sure how to get you out of this mess. Any suggestions?
Soot, roll a death save.
Tents begin to go up in flames as Prim shoots fire bolts at them. in the ensuing chaos, some of the goblins turn their attention to putting out the flames.
OOC: I assumed as much. If I were the DM I would either let the players figure it out, let some players be captured and have anyone not captured spring them, or come up with an explanation for everyone being captured. Such as more Goblins arriving. Trust your gut.
Prim was going to cast her last 2 sleeps on the gobs fighting Bolin & Deragor, but run as soon as the gobs come after her. So she might not get both shots off before she has to run. If they're now actively searching for the arsonist, she might have to dash before they're in melee range and see if she has a chance to cast sleep before she's out of range
I was wondering if you were nerfing when nobody went after her, but chalked it up to them prioritizing the balls. Which is why Prim shouted to leave them.
So Prim, Deragor & Bolin depend on how many gobs are trying to get the balls (& find the arsonist) vs trying to save the tents.
I have no idea how to help Soot. His best bet seems to be succeeding his death saves, drinking a heal & sneaking out
It looks like abject failure on the goblinball mission, but some of us may get out alive.)
(OOC: I guess it depends on if we are 'suppose to' get away or not. If this is meant to be an encounter that ends with the characters captured, then have more enemies come in from behind, to capture those of us who are likely to escape. If not meant that way, then I'd say we blundered into this, through our own choices, let it play out and see where things go from there. Some might end up captured, and we can see about freeing them, some might end up dead, and may have to create a new character to continue playing. If neither of those fits your idea for moving on, then have a secondary force attack the goblins, maybe a wild animal or some other danger of the forest, something to distract enough to give the characters time to get away.)
When soots turn comes he will cunning action disengage run then dash till I get to the rest of the group
Prim is planning to cast Fire Bolt but is waiting to see what the gobs do before choosing a target.

It looks to Prim like sniping at individual enemies isn't very effective.
She fires at the command tent to torch it as a distraction.
24 to hit and 10 fire damage to the tent
She yells "DROP THE CHESTS WHILE I TORCH THE CAMP"!
She gets ready to dash as soon as the gobs move toward her.

(OOC- trying to get an idea where we are
Soot has fallen, by a tent near the command tent.
Prim is hiding behind a tent near the command tent.
Ardun & Vlar are hiding about 100 ft (?) from the command tent & sniping
Did Deragor & Bolin make it past the outer circle of tents?
Are they 60, 90, 120 or 240 ft from Prim?
How many gobs are going after each of us, or trying to put our the fire??
And does it look like there's any chance Prim could help Soot without getting caught?)

15 and you could get us out with divine or not so divine intervention

If you think soots gone I’d like to give him one final narratives and then I will begin to create a new character
