Pax continues shuffling past Bendrak. As he rounds the corner and sees the jelly assailing Aranor, he recoils, retreating down the western corridor a few feet on stiff, cracking joints. Holding up a wavering hand he speaks in an equally shaky voice "Leave my friends alone, foul ooze!"

Tuuli, seeing Zartan breathing fire, halts his rise, leaving him to continue his aerial attack. In the meantime, with Walt rushing down the passageway, everything but the hole is thrown into darkness. She tries not to think about what might be creeping around in there, and nearly drops Zartan when Lucky bumps into her.

"Up or down, Zartan?" Tuuli asks down the hole. She stands up and picks up Lucky with her other hand, nuzzling him to her face. "That was a lot, eh Lucky?" she murmurs. "Hey, someone please bring a light back up here?" she says quite loudly, hoping someone will hear.

Walt can read the body language of the group and he can tell that the threat is over. He walks towards the group and checks in with everyone. He looks at Pax and it's clear that he's quite injured. "Good work there, friend. You doing okay? Let's regroup up top and come up with a plan. I think our friends outside blasted the entrance!"
Walt hears Tuuli's call for light and he calls out "Be right there, Tuuli!" With that, Walt runs up to the creepy lab to provide some light.

Tuuli pulls Zartan the rest of the way up, floats him over into the laboratory side, and lets the spells go, whereupon her floats gently to the floor. "Thanks," she says, nodding at the torch. "Let's light these candles again." As Walt jogs into the room, she smiles at him, "Hey Starman. Thanks, but Zartan brought old school fire."

Pax replies to Walt "I am feeling my age Walt. My knees haven't ached this bad since I returned to the Citadel. I will be right with you." Knees creaking like pebbles are rolling in the joints, Pax walks over to the elevator shaft behind him. He carefully leans out to shine his headlights above to check if the elevator is still there, or if there is any daylight filtering through from the entrance. If there is none, it would seem Walt's supposition is true, and the entrance has been closed off. With the heavy knowledge they may now be stuck in this mine, Pax shuffles back down the passage to join the others, where he sits down heavily. "I need some time to catch my breath friends." As he sits and rests, he takes out the red amulet he took from the cultist."I believe this is a necklace imbued with evil intent and it is this which caused that woman to attack us. It does not affect me because I do not have a heart. Hmm yes, I am certain of it. Take a look for yourself if you like."He holds it out.
Arcana check on the necklace (with self-imposed disadvantage because Pax knows *nothing* about Arcana): -2 (yes, that's a minus two)
(Rolled 3 Hit Die to get 31HP back. Will also use Harness Divine Power to get one Level 1 spell slot back.)
Aranor follows his new companions up the passage way to the strange laboratory. His eyes can see quite well in the dark, but the extra light from the candles is still welcome. He sits down next to Pax, stretching out his arms and groaning softly. He can feel bruises beginning to come up under his armor where the oozes had hit him with their pseudopods, and there are a couple areas of skin burned by acid. If they have enough time to rest without being jumped by more crazy cultists and ochre jellies, he'll remove his breastplate and apply liniment to the wounds.
To Pax he says, "Glad you're in one piece, big guy."
Smiling at Tuuli, he says, "That was great work with that feather fall spell. I was sure I was about to break my neck. Thank you."
((Took a short rest in-game log, gained 5 HP from 1 hit dice.)
Pax looks into the open elevator shaft. He can dimly see the underside of the old elevator platform some thirty feet above. Below, he can see nothing but darkness. No light or movement is apparent in either direction – just darkness and silence. The necklace looks like it might be arcane, but Pax can't determine much about it.
The party begins to reconvene in the cultist's workspace – evidently a long-abandoned industrial mining station turned into some sort of gruesome makeshift laboratory. The candles are relit. The floor is slick with blood. Three tables feature restraining straps. Dozens of filthy, scrawl-covered pages are strewn about the room, evidently blown about by Walt's winds. The open chest sits in an alcove, heaped with treasure, albeit mostly copper, although silver pieces, jewelry, and trinkets are mixed in, together with combs, scraps of paper, bits of string, pocketknives, candy, and other small miscellany.
(Everyone may take the benefit of a short rest if they haven't already.)
The tunnels are dead quiet; no drafts stir. A notable change from when you arrived.
Walt sits lays down in the hallway next to the pit that swallowed up his friends and takes a little nap. Shortly after he fell asleep, his constellation fades and his luminous glow dissipates. If one were to check in on him, they might here him talking in his sleep. His muttering would be a mystery to anyone who doesn’t speak goblin, but the smile on his face would be unmistakable—he was having a very nice dream.
He wakes up, stiff as a board and hobbles over to the creepy lab. He looks over what he first thought to be a treasure chest and then it dawns upon him.
”Thi…this isn’t a treasure chest” he says in a somber tone. “This must be the belongings of all those missing people from Milpazul. Oh my. I need a moment to myself.” Walt steps, leans up against the wall and looks down at the floor trying to process this development.

Tuuli smiles at Aranor at the compliment. "Somewhere in my family tree someone got with a creature from the plane of air and generations later, whoop! Here I am! But you're welcome, of course. I don't know how much I have left in me though, working with air, especially here, especially now that the entrance is probably blocked off... I'm pretty tired."
(Which is to say, she has one spell slot left and her cantrips, but she still has her roguish skills and she's a dead shot with her crossbow.)
She's not one for piecing together laboratory notes, or investigating arcane objects, or, for that matter, digging through treasure, but she goes over to the chest and begins sifting through the coins for anything particularly interesting. "I wonder what she was doing with all this treasure? Some of it looks like personal items," she holds up the pocketknife. "Maybe she was looting the town... I wonder if our hosts out there were looking for something in particular, maybe this woman found it first?"

Digging through the chest, Tuuli estimates there are well over 2000 copper pieces here, together with nearly 1000 silver. The jewelry and valuable bits are worth less than 100 gp. (Precisely 2,500 cp, 950 sp, and jewelry and trinkets worth 90 gp for those needing exact numbers.) There is nothing of particular interest among the items among the coins, nor anything obviously arcane or helpful.
Walt still doesn’t have a good feeling about that chest of coins and ignores the counting and goes about collecting the papers. He’s paying special attention to look for anything hidden about the room while doing so.
"There is no way that Itzmin wasn't aware of what was going on in this mine. I think it's safe to assume he's in on it, whatever it is," says Aranor with disgust. "Probably had some of his workers collapse the mine entrance since they're done with the place now and it conveniently traps us inside."
Aranor joins Tuuli at the chest. "If Walt is right, perhaps this is the accumulated wealth of the town."
Walt races past the dead cultist and down the steeply-sloped corridor.
Zartan, Tuuli, Pax, Bendrak, and Aranor may act next, in any order.
