"Ach, that did the trick, but at what cost!", Cainneach remarks and looks down at the pile of ash at his feet, all that remains of the useful, yet dangerous, wand. "I guess magic and a simple woodsman are not the best partners. Thanks, Twiggy, for the insight there. Now let's see what that bear was guarding!"
A large pile of broken quartz lies where the bear once stood, beyond it is a somewhat rickety wood and rope bridge over a deep cleft in which rushes a subterranean river. on the other side is a short stairway like the one you descended on the south bank leading up to a small black laquered door.

"Indeed, I hope we won't need that later. I find myself distrustful of such magic, but I am a pragmatist." He shrugs, "It served a purpose at least, even if it wasn't its intended purpose."

Thatch turns his head from the wand’s heat and watches the bear crumble from the corner of his vision. He gingerly moves forward, picking over the rubble and looking for one of the flinty claws or anything of potential value before moving toward the bridge.
He looks the bridge over carefully before testing it so see if it will hold his weight “I wonder how long this has been down here, maybe we should tie a safety rope before we cross?”

Thatch kicks through the rubble and is suprised to find an oiled leather bundle that was somehow secreted in the very centre of the statue. Opening it he finds it contains a beautifully detailed leaf-bladed short sword with a sculpted grip and a pommel formed in the shape of a bears head. It seems iron in construction but of a quality surpassing most steel blades he has seen. Its sheath is inscribed with oak leaves and bear cubs.
The bridge appears flimsy and aged but the only one he thinks might have issues is Sir Dayne.

"I am of the same mind, or at least I was. Having used that wand, I feel as though my opinion of magic might be improving! Hopefully this dungeon will continue to provide us with what we need to continue progressing."
He looks the bridge over carefully before testing it so see if it will hold his weight “I wonder how long this has been down here, maybe we should tie a safety rope before we cross?”
"Oh Thatch, I wish I could be of more help there, but ...", and Cainneach holds up the pitiful remainder of his rope. "I do think that a rope would be wise, and I wish that we'd tried the wand first!"
Tana looks slightly saddened by the bear's demise but shakes herself to stride over to Thatch. She casts a glance over at Dob's rope before rummaging through her own pack, pulling out a coil of rope.
"I know a little bit of rope magic," smiles Hotspur. "Behold!" he takes the two cut ends of Dob's rope and ties them together in a square not. "And Voila! Rope mended!"
Thatch pulls the leather bundle out of the wreckage of the statue and looks at the sword with a measure of awe. Turning to Sir Dayne and the others, he shares his find “A magnificent piece of work Sir. Perhaps one of our new companions from the forest would appreciate the workmanship and the ties to the bear. Or perhaps you, milord?”
As he hands the sword off to the others, he turns his attention to the bridge. He accepts one end of Tana’s rope and moves carefully across the bridge, securing the rope on the other side as a safety rope or guideline for the others to follow. "Be careful Sir Dayne, I believe you are the heaviest with your armor."

"Very clever, bard, however I think if you look more closely, you'll see that there are quite a few more of those pieces to work through. I don't mind waiting if you'd do the honours, although it sounds like the lady Tana has it covered", Cainneach jokes glumly and gestures at the dozen or so scraps that constitute the remainder of the shredded half of his rope. "Although on second thought, they might come in handy at some point."Cainneach then starts to pick them all up and place them in his backpack.

Cainneach regards the sword with clear admiration, but knows it should go to Dru. After finishing his rope collection, he nudges her with his elbow and gives her a meaningful look. "Thatch, perhaps either you or I should cross first, then the other can stay behind so that the two of us might secure the rope while Sir Dayne crosses."
Drufrowns at the sword. "I'm sure that such a stylish weapon doesn't suit me at all. It should go to someone prettier, like Hotspur."
Cainneach frowns back, with both the shame of his apparently misguided idea and the contemplation of Hotspur getting to swing the handsome blade contributing. He whispers to his woodland mentor, "I'm sorry Dru, but I think you deserve to wield a fine sword such as that. Perhaps though, Sir Dayne at least should have it?"
Bretwald heads towards the bridge and tests it gently with his foot, " A good idea, Cainneach."
( Make an Acrobatics check to cross safely. DC 6.)
Cainneach then steps forward toward the bridge and the old man. "All right Bretwald, I'll take the first pass. Tana, the rope if you would. And hold tight to the other end, please!" He holds out his hand and (presumably) accepts one end of it from Tana, then steps carefully onto the aged bridge.
Dru sighs. It is truly hard for her to accept gifts. At Cainneach's words, she looks him in the eyes and nods. "Thank you, pup." She whispers. " You'll make me gracious yet." She takes the sword.
Once the rope is secured it is simple for the others to carefully make their way across, Sir Dayne is secured to the rope and despite some ominous creaking from the timbers makes it safely across as well.
Climbing a short stairway like the one on the south bank of the river the companions are standing in front of a small black door. There is a strong feeling of peace and serenity here.

Thatch, following closely behind Cainneach, moves nimbly across the bridge. He helps the others cross as needed, wincing as the bridge creaks and sways under the weight of Sir Dayne’s armor. The party safely across, Thatch bounds up to the door and, as the feeling of peace settles over him, looks the door over closely for any markings or signs of traps.

Thatch is 100% sure that the door is perfectly safe and will simply push open.
"Thatch, did you find anything with the door? You seem hesitant ... it's hard to imagine any danger in this tranquil place."Cainneach almost immediately feels foolish saying this, given the dangers they've faced in the dungeon thus far, yet he somehow feels transported from that darkness by the serenity of the room.
