"Owlbear...owlbear...owlbear" - mumbles the goblin to himself with a serious thinking face.
(Nature check if he remembers anything useful about owlbears: 20
A monstrous cross between giant owl and bear, an owlbear’s reputation for ferocity and aggression makes it one of the most feared predators of the wild.
Keen Sight and Smell. The owlbear has advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on sight or smell.
Prince Dueragn cues in on the cursed cave. A cave would be a perfect place for a monstrously huge, many headed, man and fruit consuming monster to maintain maximum concealment as it mapped out it's many morose and malicious malintented meals.
"Of course, OWL!...BEAR! You dum-dum gobbo!"- enlighten the small creature's face while placing his hands to his left side, then his right side, like he's separating the different words - "Those nasty bear-shaped creatures with owl faces...yuck, I got goosebumps even from thinking about them. If I remember well they have got very delicate senses, it's hard to hide from them...Well, sorry I got distracted a bit. You mentioned something about a cave. Is that far from here?"

“I’m not brave enough to do much exploring beyond our land, so I haven’t come across any such cave.” He motions to the two who were examining the tracks, “it seems that you have some I your company who are able to glean information from these marks made by the beast. Perhaps you could follow the tracks to see where they lead you?”
Betty blinks her bright blue eyes. She smiles cheerfully and waves her hand to the Elf rogue, clearly not understanding what she has done.

Betty tells her friends about what she has found as she follows the trail of the monster. " Just like "Sir Tristan told us, the beast is massive. It has a long dexterous tail, many heads and … this is the guards' footprints. Ah they had a tough time. And the things can spit acid, which means it might be hard to outrange it. But the good news is that the Hydra probably doesn't possess fire resistance." Betty stands up and dusts off her knees. " The trail tells a lot of things. But it doesn't say why the beast suddenly disappeared. We must go to the forest and so-called cursed caves for more investigation."
“That is all, just rumours. It could be just the other lads around town trying to scare one another. …But I have seen an adventurer or two come through these parts intending to return and never did.”
Prince Dueragn looked the young man in the eyes, "You seem plenty brave to me young man. Not many would stay on land hounded by a many headed man eating monster"
Prince Dueragn looked to the others and said, "Do we have enough to begin tracking the beast? If so then I would suggest we get a move on so that it's trail does not grow colder"
Before the party continues its journey, Snikkit looks around for a stone which is at least human-fist sized, or a bit bigger and carefully place it in his bag.

(Woah. That sounds like a great way to ring in the new year! I know I just responded to you but feel free to take it easy too. Also, I just saw your character's profile picture...and I'm kind of surprised how handsome you can make a goblin even though he has needley teeth LOL. Kind of reminds me of Beast Boy...)
Betty blinks her bright blue eyes. She smiles cheerfully and waves her hand to the Elf rogue, clearly not understanding what she has done.
Ghost rolls her eyes and motions for the party to gather around to show them some thieves' cant.
"We are going to face a creature who has several heads. Lots of eyes and ears. Or, we might be unfortunate enough to also catch an owlbear along the way, something that ALSO has delicate eyes and ears."
She looks at Urzan and smiles. "So for this...wild hunt we want to come out with the ones doing the head hunting!"
Ghost's Quick Guide to Thieves' Cant
👉👆 “Finger guns (but actually it's loosing an arrow because it's more medieval setting) there's an enemy over there.”
🫡 “Pointing to your eyes means look over here. Pointing to your ears means listen.”
✊ “A fist in the air means freeze. Stop moving and hold your fire.”
✌️ “Two fingers in the air means split up into 2 teams. We don’t ever want to all go by ourselves because we can get picked off or abducted one by one, but it could be good for us to split up our party of 5 into two groups to surround a target...or to minimize the risk of ALL of us getting hit with acid...” Ghost says the last part quietly.
🔔 Lastly she takes out a bell from her pack, takes some kindling that was stopping it from ringing and lets everyone hear its sound. “If we do need to send someone by themselves, ringing this means I am in danger, come help me. It'll be important if for some reason or another you can't scream and none of us can see you.”
"...actually," she wraps up her lecture, "I'm pretty good with stealth so if you all don't mind, I could go ahead a little bit for everyone."
Ghost shrugs, then smiles nervously at the realization that she just put her own neck on the line so she quickly tries to change the subject.
"So! Prince Dueragn, have you tried to see what Sir Tristan's sword can do? It might be useful to know what it does now instead of in the middle of battle. Grandpa used to say that the blade is an extension of your body and it's not a good idea to lose both hands for just one weapon...I mean no disrespect disrespect to Sir Tristan's weapon, but I'm just trying to say it isn't really my style..." she goes on and on.
"And the things can spit acid, which means it might be hard to outrange it."
"Alchemist's apprentice!" she calls out to Snikkit once he finishes his business with picking up stones, "You are...surprisingly handsome. Anyways! Didn't you hear the lady? There are parts of the land burnt with acid. Can you analyze it and see what we can use to protect against it? Or find a quick way to slough it off? Before it b-b-burns away our skin and b-bones...ah! Noo!"
As she talks, her voice gets more and more uneasy and at the end her teeth begin to chatter. She shakes her head and tries to start again:
"Forgive me, Mr. Sparks.. I can...hear the voices of the d-dead...sorry...but I can glean some knowledge from them! I can use that knowledge to help you out with your alchemy if you w-w-want..." her teeth start to chatter again and she crosses her arms as if trying to keep warm.
(Ghost currently has proficiency with arcana because of her class feature Whispers from the Grave, so we can both roll for it or if it makes sense, she can just give you the help action to give you advantage.)
Before the party continues its journey, Snikkit looks around for a stone which is at least human-fist sized, or a bit bigger and carefully place it in his bag.

No worries there. It’s the forest. You can find a stone you need.

I love it. How about this: everyone roll Investigation to see if you can pick it up and remember it the next time it’s used. If you don’t beat a 10 I’ll give you some sort of disadvantage on interpreting it until you spend a short rest or part of a long rest “studying” it.
