"Elmin's right. Time is of the essence, and we should act swiftly to find Leosin and get the answers we seek. I'm ready to move." Swan says, she turns to meet the gaze of each member of their newly-formed company to see if everyone's ready as well.
"Master druid, are you sure these were the tracks of the attackers?"
"I am quite sure - they were tracks of several kobolds, who usually don't settle in these woods, and they were accompanied by a single booted person. This fits the attackers too well to be a coincidence, wouldn't you say?"
As the champions of Greenest introduced themselves, Tyto listened intently and gave every speaker a big, reassuring smile. When Nesim finished speaking, it was silent for a few seconds, before Tyto addressed him: "Your friend has done this town a great service by warning us of the incoming attack, and as far as I am concerned we owe him our thanks. And if you are still searching for him, it would be wise to accompany us. What do you say? I personally would be glad to hear more of your order and their work - perhaps we can learn from one another, for I am also in search for the wisdom that lies in nature - and fire."

"That is enough for me then."acknowledges the governor, however as Tyto addresses Nesim, the monk gets a bit pale for a moment.

Katarina doesn't have much she needs to do (at least, she doesn't think she does... there's probably something useful that she's forgetting, but she doesn't realize it right now).
"Katarina is ready to go whenever everyone else is," she says with a smile.

Unhappy that the market got rid of individual purchases for one-off subclasses, magic items, and monsters?
Fiach needs no time to be ready to leave and gathers the few belongings she has (her backpack essentially) and assembles with the rest of the group.
"Just to say that you all seem to have prior knowledge of the situation, so lead on and I can follow. But if someone could catch me up on the goings-on here recently, it would really help."
OOC: No need to actually share chapter and verse, but if someone could write that their character has, it would stop me running the risk of metagaming
Elmin is also ready to go. « I too just arrived in town, managed to kill a few kobold but I may have miss a few things. We can discuss about that on the road. ». He closes his bags and adds with a large smile « I packed up some pastries, so I’m good to go ! »
Once outside again, Tyto will take his new spear and study the ornaments that have been carved into it. While focussing on that, he also uses his Firbolg magic to cast Detect Magic on it.
OOC: I somehow forgot to write my reaction to the guard giving me this in my last post - I added it after the fact but I think you didn't see the edit. Did the guard say anything about where he got the spear?
After that, as he doesn't have much to prepare, he will go up to Katarina and strike up a conversation to pass the time until everyone is ready:
"You are a Tabaxi, aren't you? Quite rare in these woods, but I have heard tales of your folk. In fact, I have met one Tabaxi before, but he was the only one and things with him have gotten... complicated. Anyway, I have heard that the tribes of your people live in communion with nature, and that they like to collect and share tales. I'd be delighted to hear one, if you'd be willing to share."
...
Once everyone is finished with their preparations and met up, Tyto will offer to guide them to where he had found the traces.
Katarina looks up at the Druid and tugs at one of her her brown curls almost shyly.
"Well... Katarina doesn't know how all other Tabaxi live... but the Mystic Paws are not known for being especially tuned in to nature. Katarina's father, Grand Duke Proud Shadow, likes to live in luxury, and her brother and sisters live much the same way. Perhaps you could say that her family are housecats, yes? But as for Katarina, she likes to play outside."
The feline grins, thinking of all the fun times she had climbing trees and rolling in the grass. She lets out a happy sigh, then frowns.
"You already know that Katarina is Tabaxi... but Katarina has no idea what you might be. Clearly not human or Tabaxi... and Katarina is not well versed on others besides those two..."
The hunter smiled "Well, the tip is at least two hundred years old. My grandfather made it out of an old, broken blade he has found in the forest one day. It took the local blacksmith almost two days to reforge it into this..." he gave the tip a pat and it sung in low hum for a few seconds. "The blade never needed to be sharpened again from that time..." he says testing the tip with his thumb "...nor it has ever covered in rust. The handle however broke off every time we have tried to use it, so I made that one about twenty or so years ago..." He began to trace the shallow carvings that show animals and plants but you can see also a carving of a person holding a broken blade in his hand. The latest carvings show a crude castle and a giant standing in front of it and defending it against a simple dragon. "I have started to carve these, but I have still a few places to finish so I hope you can do it. My hands are old and I cannot keep my blades well enough and I have no son to pass it on to, so..." he pauses.
The Detect magic gives you no results about the spear...
OOC: Back to the present...
As you gather and leave the town, some of the townsfolk wave you goodbye - especially the young kids who chase you and tag along for a few steps laughing.
You went north, a mile away from the town, the trees have started to appear on the hills. Grasslands gave place to a forest and Tyto has led you to the area where he and the hunters have found the tracks. As before there are numbers of these to a trained eye. Broken twigs, crushed grass and foot and paw prints in various shapes and sizes in wet places.
OOC If you'd like to try to get additional information, please roll Wisdom (Survival).
Tyto, as the main "tracker", please make Wisdom (Survival) roll to follow the trail, however if anyone would like to back Tyto up, do so but please note either "Details" (if you want to get some additional information from the tracks found) or "Follow" (to follow the tracks) by your rolls.
@Toonarmy1892 - I am not sure what you mean - if you refer to inventory, please just keep track of it on your character sheet. We trust each other and unless something changes, I do not feel there is a need to be that precise. If you refer to a different situation, please let me know.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
While they are on the road, Swan explains how the group got to Greenest. They were on the same caravan and saw the dragon attack on the town and decided to stay and help. This Leosin they are looking for was the one who gave the warning to the governor about the attack the day before, and now they need to find him to see what more he knows about the attack and the cult of dragons.
As the group comes to a halt beside the tracks, Swan's amber eyes sweep over the surrounding areas, broken twigs and crushed grass, trying to get more details about the tracks.
OOC: @LiofDanzig - Fiach joined the party late and so does not know the full back-story unless someone shares it with her. This was an IC way of ensuring she could reference anything that has happened without me (the player) metagaming. If you meant the reference to the back-pack, it was as much fluff as crunch - as I would state if she left something behind on purpose. Thanks
Elmin stays with the group and try to learn the tricks in hunting down a party but all of that seems too complicated, no real rules to follow. After 15 minutes, he decides to stop trying and just follow, using this time to think about spellcrafting. (Survival: 4). Nevertheless, he ask Fluffy - his familiar - to fly above and keep an eye out for potential danger (Perception 11)
He also ask around what type of creatures they have been fighting. "I arrived when the village was already burning and saw only kobolds. Have you fought or saw soemthing else ? I need to prepare myself."

...
"You already know that Katarina is Tabaxi... but Katarina has no idea what you might be. Clearly not human or Tabaxi... and Katarina is not well versed on others besides those two..."
"What I am..." Tyto chuckled, a sound like a rockslide in an echoing valley. "I am one of the Fir-Bolg, or Giant-Kin as some might call us. And I for one am glad to have you by our side, whether you might be a house cat or a stray."
As Tyto led the group back to the spot where he had found the tracks, he warned them not to make too much noise - "we do not know how close the attackers might still be - we don't want to draw attention."
With that, he turned back around and began following the tracks.
Cerau joins Swan in her recount of their adventure to Fiach and the others, her face bright and cheerful spare a few moments of somber acknowledgment of what the townspeople had lost. She describes the drakes and the black clothed figures in as much detail as she can muster but leaves out any mention of hearing strange voices and Arso's relationship to her.
"Many of these people have been speaking in Draconic," Cerau whispers as Tyto leads them closer to where he saw the tracks. "They don't seem to have anything nice to say."
"We do not know how close the attackers might still be - we don't want to draw attention."
Cerau quietens at Tyto's request and places a hand on his shoulder. "Guide the way," she whispers with a smile.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Fiach listens intently to Swan and Cerau as they share what has happened thus far. Her ears prick up at the mention of Draconic. Not that this is a surprise, but rather it reinforces what she already understood of the situation.
She nodded solemnly at the mention of the suffering of the townspeople but reflected that it could have been a lot worse but for the actions of the few adventurers she was now part of.
She falls into line and remains as quiet as possible – not precisely a challenge for someone of her background – but she takes nothing for granted. And, as she walks, she keeps her eyes and ears open for anything out of the ordinary.
OOC: Hi and I am sorry for the delay in my post. I am in the middle of preparations to a holiday trip and for the next two weeks I may be offline for most of the time so it may take the impact on my posting frequency - sorry.
The sun is getting closer to the horizon filling the sky and the forest with beautiful red and gold light.
The traces are quite obvious in the area. There is no problem with finding them, however when Swan has started to look to the ground for anything that caught her eye, she has noticed one particular thing...
Long, straight, double lines about five feet (c.a. 1,5 m) apart. There are two such tracks, one a bit lighter, the second one more prominent and visible. The sets are mostly destroyed by other foot prints, yet Swan was able to find those not exactly in the same place but close enough.
Tyto follows the tracks that pass a big rock and then turn east. After about twenty minutes, the places between trees get further and further apart and you clear the forest. In front of you there are hills of the Green lands.
Fiach only:
As Fiach keeps her watchful eyes on the surrounding area, she manages to spot one thing. For a second she was sure it was a fire someone has set for the incoming night, but then she has noticed it moves. It moves very fast about fifty or so yards to your left. The fire blinks as it passes behind the trees, but stops from time to time for a second or two. Fiach tries to keep track of it but it looks as it vanishes in one place just to appear a few feet to the left or to the right.
For a second she manages to fix her surprised gaze on the mysterious flames, as they jump on some rock and... just sit there? Fiach cannot believe it but it looks like a creature... A cat? No, it is something else... Long snout, pointy ears and the flames behind it look like a long tail, red and orange in the begining turning bright yellow towards the end.
The creature looks with its bright golden, almost white eyes straight to Fiach's heart and then it simply fades. No smoke, no nothing.
It looks like noone else has noticed this.
As you leave the forest, the ground gets covered with grass. In the distance you can see a series of plateaus, about a hundred to a hundred and fifty feet tall. The road will lead you through between them. That will limit your view distance for sure...
Grimnir:
Sorry to have it brought here, but I feel I need to address one thing asap to avoid any problems.
We had a wizard before who used her owl as a scout and early warning device but I just would like to let you know what we have come up with, just to make sure we are on the same page and we understand the rules the same way.
* Your familiar (an owl), although according to the rules is a celestial, fay or fiend (if I recall correctly) is by all other terms a creature. I.e. as an owl it cannot speak so it will not tell you there is a bandit sneaking behind you, but may be a bit nervous if the bandit tries to pass close to it.
* Telepathic communication works and you can give it even complex orders (e.g. Go there and sit on the third step of the ladder and look cute, or let me know if anyone walks out of that door) but the other way around it's rather ideas, due to fact owls do not use any language to communicate. In the second case, the owl would give you let's say a telepathic screech, but would it be exactly because someone has gone through the door or because someone has attacked her? 😈 That would be yours to determine.
* You may take posession of your familiar's senses but it is an action, and if you would like to do so, please declare it.
There is a familiar that has the speach ability - a pseudodragon, so if you would like to have it, we can asume you have that one instead. The pseudodragon (due to language) would be able to give you a description of anything that happens or what it sees.
I hope these are fair, but if you would like to discuss or you feel something should be interpreted in a different way, I am open to discussion. :)

"I don't care, I'm still free. You can't take the sky from me..."
Fiach continues to walk and then says, under her breath, so that anyone in the party nearby can hear.
"Don't react to what I'm about to say but...to our left we are bing followed. It looks like...well, it looks like a dragon - or something similar. Except it's the size of a cat and made of fire. And now it's disappeared. Maybe I'm saying dragon because of the present circumstances, but that's my best guess."
No problem, completely agree. I'll keep the owl for now and I'm happy not to do recon with it if you prefer (I know that as a DM it is annoying sometime). Otherwise we go with your rules, let's say if my owl sees enemies, she would just fly back to me - and maybe tap my hand in a certain way ?
Without turning around, Tyto stopped mid-movement and muttered under his breath:
"If that's what you saw... That sounds like a powerful primal spirit from the Feywild - a wildfire spirit. You see, these woods have a deep and... mysterious connection to the Feywild. And this particular spirit... I have seen her start forest fires that would blaze for days, burning down hundreds if not thousands of trees. I have seen the flames she controls kill battle-hardened men, just yesterday in Greenest. You are right not to underestimate her for her size, but there is one thing you need to know about her..."
Tyto made a long, dramatic pause before he turned around slowly, revealing a cheeky, almost boyish grin in his face.
"She loves belly rubs and ear scritches. If you remember that and don't get her wet, I'm sure you'll get along nicely with her. Her name is Mozilla, the Fire-Fox. She is a protector of the balance in nature and life, just like me. Whenever I am in need of counsel, her wisdom guides me. You need not be afraid of her."
With that, Tyto turned around to the direction Fiach had pointed out. "Come Mozilla, show yourself. You have scared the newcomers enough."
From behind a rock comes the flaming spirit. As you look at it, it do looks like a fox. Its tail, although made of flames, looks like that of a fox. She jumps on the rock she came behind from and sits on it. Her bright eyes study her paws as she cleans her fur or flames. For a moment she pays no attention to anyone but herself but out of a sudden she jumps down and moves closer, as if she was getting your smell. If anyone tries to reach to her she takes a small step bach but after a quick glance at Tyto, she gives in and lets to pet her. As the flames cover ones hand, they do not feel wierd or hot, but any hair on the hand are gone with distinct smell of burned hair reaching the nostrils.
Few moments later she turns around and looks both sides and starts to run and she is simply gone. She runs behind a rock and she simply does not appear on the other side.
