Dark points to a smaller lock on the gate. “I think this little lock is what we need to deal with first. Does anyone know how to pick locks?” As he pauses to listen to the group, he pulls out his hammer preparing to strike the lock.

Beyond the bars of the gate, there are some pieces of shattered bone on the ground of the cave tunnel. They are just on the edge of the torchlight, so perhaps that suggested mage hand could bring the bone shards over to be used as improvised thieves' tools.
Rumble grumbles and moves forward. "Much as I'm sure folk would love to try and handle things delicately on account of what we just ran from....*sighs* We ain't got time for this."He states before brushing aside folk, and attempting to take hold of the aforementioned padlock to rip it off.
After seeing that breaking the gate with physical force is out. Killian will use mage hand to gather the bones and give them to Darnell to try and pick the lock, while darnell works on the lock he will keep an eye out for anything that may be coming down the hallway, holding his action to cast firebolt if need be.

"Bigmaa--mmm! Wheeewww! Yep. Definitely.. *winces*… Okay that stung." Rumble states, still shaking his hand in the ear as he moved towards the back of the group.
With the bone shards taken, they are all chipped of pieces of a larger bone and can work potentially as a very poor thieves' tools. If you want to attempt to use them (if you're proficient) you may attempt to (I'm assuming very carefully).
(Yeah, I was just putting the proficiency note to say that those who aren't proficient would have a bad time trying to use such primitive tools)
Darnell takes the slips of bone, taking one slightly thicker piece and a thinner piece and begins to work on the lock. It may take a couple of minutes.
In the meantime, the faint echo of the thudding noise can be heard again, getting slightly louder each time.
It takes a few moments, but Rumble eventually shrugs off the pain long enough to notice the noise and look back down into the passage. As a hand starts to tremble, he quickly latches onto it with his free hand, and takes a deep but slow breath. "... Right then, guess it's my turn." He mutters to himself, and then says quietly to the others, "Hope ya'll ready fer another scuffle. 'Cept you, Mr. Darnell. Keep up the good work, eh?"He grins uneasily, but readies his club all the same.

Mara sighs to herself and readies herself even if she has begun to feel fatigued due to having to stop and go since they had split up from their guide. She will watch the others but will keep herself prepared as she knows the need to cast and offensive spell could be useful at any second.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
As Darnell catches the third lock pin (of four), being exceedingly careful not to touch it, the THUD... THUD... THUD... comes ever closer. Turning around the corner is a humanoid shape around ten feet tall, made of a dark brown marble. Where one would have a face, an eerie whispy white smoke seems to inhabit the front of the creature's anatomy. It is around 80 feet away and advancing.

Mara will begin to cast a spell as she sees the strange thing, hoping to help everyone out as she casts her only non cantrip spell. As she mutters and moves her hand a light begin to form in her hand. As she aims at the creature the light flies from her hands.

Mara pants as she does her best to keep running with the rest of the group, hating that they had no idea where they were going.

Oh another thing of note for Darkwing:
Beyond the bars of the gate, there are some pieces of shattered bone on the ground of the cave tunnel. They are just on the edge of the torchlight, so perhaps that suggested mage hand could bring the bone shards over to be used as improvised thieves' tools.

"Uhh… On second thought, maybe we do?"

Rumble attempts to rip the padlock off of the gate. As he does, he feels a surge of energy sting his arms the nerves in his upper body begin to burn.
Rumble: please make a DC 15 Constitution Saving Throw, taking 8 lightning damage on a failure, or half as much on a success.

Darnell takes the bones, picking out an especially broken and pointy one.
"This may work," he says, before Rumble suddenly attempts to rip the padlock off, and is shocked by a burst of electricity.
"Whoa!" exclaims Darnell, eyes wide.
"Maybe I shouldn't touch that lock..."
But he starts over there, not quite sure that he'll do this.
And that's all I have to say about that.

Darnell is proficient, yes.
"Ah well. We need to get through, so I'll try..." Darnell says, not looking very happy about this.
Darnell very carefully walks over to the lock, holds the bone shards carefully, and begins to work, trying not to touch it with his bare hands.
