Augustin would like to explain to everyone to keep an eye out on those in line for anything specific. He grabs a handful of copper and wait until Marigold ushers in her next guess. He would like to push through, but offer those at front some copper for their time and keep some for Marigold.
When he does get to speak to her he shows her the mark they just found (as privately as possibly)
”perhaps you misunderstood, I need information. Now.” it’s not trying to be threatening but it’s direct and to the point, hoping to skip any misunderstanding
She smiles, used to difficult customers.
"Then ask", she says.
Augustin finds out the following:
The amulet Augustin shows her is the same that she saw on Grin Rosebelly, a tiefling alchemist, who once was a valued member in town. He usually created compounds for the tannery as well as fertilizers for farmers. Grin's partner, Winnette Smallbrook, went missing on a trip to Fallcrest last year. Rumour has it that Winnette chose not to come back, but no one is sure. Grin changed during his grief and became bitter with the world and with Albridge in particular. People started leaving him alone. He started coming to see Marigold about six months ago, and was always rough and angry.
Augustin confirms the following and relates it to the group. He makes sure there is no further information before suggesting they go get the guy in town. If they can’t find him, we’ll damn. If they do he would like to press for further spy information asap
Augustin goes to the alchemist's house. It is dark and empty.
A search of Grin's house reveals:
A lots of empty chemical bins with different substances (lime, phosphorous, pine resin, oil, others unidentified) recently put together, and a few empty clay bottles, same as the ones in the crate.
A sheaf of small blank scrolls and a sliver of slate (used as a pencil).
An empty aviary.
All personal effects gone - as if he does not expect to come back.
Asking around people say they saw Grin heading north with a backpack and a crate of bottles. No one spoke to him because he is cantankerous. They thought he might be bailing on the town.
Augustin self esteem plummets as he realises the mistakes he made may have cost the town countless lives. He swears to bring this bloke to justice and snuff out his light.
he lets those in the war room know if their recent acquisitions (silver and fire) and that he needs to speak to others for the goods.

Grimbald puts a hand in the neck of the Alchemist head like a puppet and turns the head to look back and forth between him and Augustin.
If anyone wanted to do anything beforehand let me know, can do it retrospectively.
When Grimbald is on shift, he hears a soft tread behind him. He turns to see Israfen the captain of the Woodsinger elves walking on the roof towards him, holding a bow in one hand and something else in the other. He tosses the something else to Grimbald and it lands and rolls perfectly to show him the face of the assassin.
"She fell into your trap," he smiles. "She was hurt but not dead, so we quickly finished her off. She refused to surrender, but could not avoid our arrows in the pit. And seeing as you seem to be collecting heads for some reason, I brought you one more."
The elf nods and walks back into the night.
His voice carries faintly across the night air. "I wish you all well tomorrow. I am glad to have known you."
Party get 180xp each as part of their share of the xp for the death of the Assassin. I could give it all to Grimbald, but maybe better if you all are on the same xp.
Esa, who doesn't follow Augustin in, scowls at his determination to get in ahead of all the... eager... people waiting for their time with Marigold. She scoffs and mutters to herself "Well, he sure doesn't get his power from THAT," and turns her attention elsewhere
Esa finds time to gather the others and tells them of the Rod. "Perhaps this could be of use to Vakiel or Grimbald, as Augustin already carries one rod."
It rained overnight heavily, which is good for the defenders, making some areas muddy.
3rd day of Latesummer (last month of summer).
A cool day with cloud cover. Rain is forecast for the afternoon and a light mist is present, although the wind and little direct sunlight present is dispersing it quickly. Again, good for the defenders.
The party are up before dawn, eating a meagre breakfast, before attending the war room meeting.
Dar Gremath, overall leader of the resistance, is present with the other leaders still present.
Gerrad the white haired halfling representing Albridge.
Reithann the druid, elderly but still healthy, accompanied by her apprentices, representing her Druid's Grove.
Adalbar the hunter, representing refugees and resistance fighters from the village of Easthill.
Bran Torsson, Elder of Tor's Hold, representing the fighters of Tor's Hold.
Augustin Stockmer the paladin, representing the refugees and fighters from Harken village.
Israfen the captain of the elf archers, representing the Woodsinger elves.
The plan is laid out. Israfen reports that his archers are currently taking up positions in the woods south of the river. Armed with silver tipped arrows they are expecting the ground troops, with devils in the vanguard, to be heading to get out of the mud and onto the road. They will be out in the open and with the barricades and natural topography (as mapped out by Esa's aerial survey) it should be a nasty surprise for them. Then they will withdraw back across the bridge to continue providing ranged support.
The various resistance fighters will be on the bridge behind barricades, with support from Reithann's druids who will provide healing and what spells they can use to trap, slow, or hinder the enemy. Those warriors not able to be on the front lines (due to age or disability) will conduct roving patrols of the village, making sure the fighters are not blindsided somehow by attacks from this side of the river. They will also keep a lookout for the signal fires for the crossing points east and west which are guarded, but more lightly.
Dar Gremath and the party will remain in reserve, helping where needed, bolstering defences and dealing with any incursions. The river is wide and deep but it could be swum because it is not fast flowing. The enemy have had time to prepare so it is not inconceivable they have found a way to navigate the river somewhere.
Reithann leads everyone in prayer, and not only does she invoke Malora, goddess of wilderness and nature, she also asks for the blessing of the Mother, the Primal Spirit of the world to give hope and strength to repel these destroyers. Grimbald feels his acorn go warm at this point.
With everyone knowing their duties, the leaders disperse into the dawn to give orders.
Grimbald will take in all around him, and give his own private thanks to the Mother and humbly asks for her guiding hand over the coming conflict. Anyone who glances at Grimbald would note that he has had a wash and groom.
As everyone takes their positions, Esa reminds the others to send up a signal when they want her to return, before casting Invisibility and taking to the skies. For now, she will position herself 30ft in the air directly above the party.
The human resistance army makes noise to keep the devils attention on them. The devils march on the road to avoid the muddy ground. They start to gather pace, but just as they do so a sound like soft drums is heard, a result of 50 bow strings being released at once, quickly followed by the same sound as another volley is released. Silver tipped arrows rain down on the devils who have two handed glaives and no shields. The silver tips puncture through their unnatural resistance and send the devils back to hell in a puff of slime and dust, their glaives disappearing a moment after. The few remaining devils charge towards the woods, but the mud slows them down and another volley brings them all down.
A huge cheer comes from the resistance. The enemy's vanguard, destroyed at the start of the battle with no losses for the resistance was a better start than they could have dreamed of.
It doesn't take long for the second wave to appear out of the mist - drakes, a lot of them came charging up the road at full speed. Some larger ones have drake riders to spur the others on. The elves had not finished falling back to the bridge and a nearby squad of about 15 fighters from Tor's Hold were covering for them. The elves shot some on the run, but a couple were dragged down by tooth and claw. The Tor's Hold fighters loosed crossbow bolts and took some down.
"Come on, run," the party can hear Dar Gremath mutter, as he watches the elves scramble towards the bridge, turning to shoot arrows. A large group of the elves were not going to make it, the drakes were so fast. Then the Tor's Hold fighters surge forwards with weapons and shields - the party can see some of their liberated Iron Circle shields among those of those brave fighters. But it looks like it's only going to end one way.
Then the elves who were yet to come back across the bridge drew swords and charged into the drakes, blades flashing. The rescued became the rescuers. The drake riders were good fighters, and the drakes were savage in a pack, working effectively together. Then more missile fire from the troops on the bridge took some of the drakes on the edge of the fighting down and two of the drake riders whose high profile on the large drakes made them good targets. The remaining three drake riders turned their mounts and fled back down the road, ducking and weaving. They left many bodies of elves and Tor's Hold fighters on the ground behind them. More fighters from the eastern flank had been coming to help their allies, but were too late to fight, but they did help the wounded.
"No, no!" yelled Dar Gremath. "They shouldn't be leaving their post!"
Then out of the mist on the flank that had been depleted when the fighters came to help was the real Iron Circle attack. The fighters who had been helping the wounded rushed back but the defenders were now split and the Iron Circle soldiers were able to deal easily with two smaller groups of soldiers rather than one large group of defenders. Both groups were overwhelmed. Soldiers from the bridge rushed to support.
Dar Gremath turned to the party. "I was hoping you wouldn't be needed this early, but go and shore up that flank! Just hold them up for a bit, then fall back to the bridge. Give us a chance to get all the wounded back across the bridge!"

RL casts goodberry 3 times and produces 20
3'each 4 to vakiel and Augustin.
Good for 24 hours
Grimbald would have done his usual and cast goodberry once before a long rest. He would give 5 to Israfen, giving everyone 1 each.
