Oh, it really depends on what is 'better' for you...
The scores you rolled would have been impossible to get with point buy (since 15 is the maximum you can buy) and, well, if you substitute your rolled 16 with a 15 and compute the cost, you get 27 - which is the amount of points that the point buy gives you at the beginning to spend on your build. So the scores you rolled allow for a build that is higher, in points, than any point buy build.
It probably depends a lot on how much lawful or chaotic you are... A lawful probably appreciates more the great control that the point buy gives you in building characteristics, while a chaotic appreciates more the possibility of having higher scores to play with - in case of lucky rolls (nobody obviously wants to think about unlucky rolls).

I must be REALLY chaotic then; I hate even having all lucky rolls. Or all mid-range or all low for that matter. Way too boring LOL.

I have the soultion for you: declare point buy, then assign the points of the point buy randomly... If you get a result that you do not like (can not be all high or all low, this way - but can be all same range) you just decide how to fix or reassign randomly (hoping for a more satisfactory result) 😉
Abilities: Point buy (I know how bad my luck usually is when rolling for ability scores lol)
Backstory: "Rash" was always a strange fellow among his tribesmen. Though he excelled physically, his true passion was the arcane arts. He pieced together a spellbook out of crude parchment from the various creatures he hunted, and learned a few simple spells from the village shamans. But eventually, he realized that he couldn't learn anything else from the elders (that or they weren't willing to waste more time on him and his extremely mediocre magical abilities) and so he set out on his own to learn greater magic. Eventually, his wandering brought him to Longsaddle, where he hoped that he could find a powerful wizard willing to take him on as an apprentice.

Rash and Tarysaa need to sit down and compare notes! Tarysaa has a STR of 5... (a couple of college 'accidents' took their toll). With your STR and a shared spell set, we might make one powerful wizard! :D

Great Mister_Whisker, thank you for your interest in my quest! All good so far; just remember to finally fulfill point D - role-play your character's reaction upon hearing about the quest!
Speaking of filling out a character... I am building mine in the DDB character creator and putting in all the bells and whistles. Should I make it 'public' and post the link here so you can poke at the character sheet -OR- is that more ".. after June 29th once you have decided on the Player List..."?
Depending on one’s disposition, Tyrgram can come across as a wild man, a lumberjack, or a friendly uncle. There is truth to all of it. Tyrgram is broad of shoulder with copper red hair and a bushy beard, to the extent that some Dwarven blood must have found its way into his ancestry despite his tall stature. Gentle blue eyes contrast the red and his face is marked with harsh lines that soften whenever he laughs. Thick hides and pelts stitched together that bear the clear mark of being home-made cover a suntanned body that has seen its fair share of winters. Tucked behind a belt is a handaxe and dagger, a crossbow is slung across the back and a wooden board roughly hewn into the shape of a shield hangs to the side. Boots that are lovingly patched up time and time again complete the ensemble. One peculiar thing about Tyrgram’s appearance, and one that you could only see up close, is that a couple of insects, mostly butterflies and moths, have made their home in the coarse hairs of his hide armour with one or two having moved into his beard.
Tyrgram has glasses but refuses to wear them, citing that “they make me look like an old man” and “I don’t need them to hit things.” He only puts them on, begrudgingly, when he is working on clothes or shoes.
Personality, character, ideals:
Tyrgram is a storyteller first and a craftsman second. There is little that delights him more than spending the time in good company with good ale and a good story. He fancies himself a bit of a minstrel on the one hand, though without the music, and a knight-errant on the other. He has a good memory for the things that interest him but tends to not know much about stuff outside of that. Tyrgram prefers to solve things without resorting to violence as the first option but he knows enough about the world that sometimes heads need to be knocked.
When he is not telling a tale or travelling the road, Tyrgram earns his keep by mending clothes and shoes, occasionally making new pieces if time permits. He takes pride in his work even if some deride it as more befitting a woman.
Tyrgram has a soft spot for children and if given the chance he will gladly provide storytime, followed by naptime.
Personality traits: - Everyone loves a good story - Stories are the lifeblood of society and I have shed a lot of blood. Wait, that came out wrong…
Ideals: - We need stories. Not because they tell us that dragons exist, we all know that, but because they tell us that dragons can be beaten.
Bonds: - The Lady of Butterflies, Duchess Calpe Belinapter
Flaws: - Sometimes I don’t notice the thing right in front of me. No, I don't need glasses. Shut up.
Background:
Born to a cobbler and a seamstress, Tyrgram grew up in relative poverty. Yet he was not bothered by this: his mother made their clothes and his father made their shoes so they were able to save a little bit of money. Money that went towards food and drinks but, more importantly, books. Tutoring was too expensive but Tyrgram’s mom and dad managed to convince the local priest to teach him his letters and numbers in exchange for labour. Books thus became the next best thing and Tyrgram spent most of his free time reading and learning from any book his parents brought home. Tyrgram repaid his parents’ kindness by telling them about the things he learned so that they could also benefit and learn from him, a weekly event that laid the foundation for his storytelling craft.
When Tyrgram grew older, merely reading about stories was not enough anymore to sate him: he wanted to experience them for himself. He was a big lad now: years of manual labour had made him strong and while he might not be the smartest one around, he had a good head on his shoulders. The wanderlust struck him and he figured that by leaving the house, it meant one less mouth to feed. Tyrgram’s parents were saddened to see him leave but they understood that keeping him here would be more harmful. Thus with goodbyes said and blessings given, Tyrgram set out into the wide, open world like so many of his childhood heroes had done in the books he treasured so much.
Several years came and went. Tyrgram wandered from place to place, earning a living by repairing clothes and shoes and delighting tavern patrons with stories during the evenings: some true, some made up and some embellished to make them more entertaining. One of those stories is as follows:
'One autumn night many moons ago I found myself walking down the road in a dense and dark forest under the light of a pale moon. Now walking all by your lonesome self through the forest at night isn't something you should do, but I was younger then and less inclined to listen to any sage advice, least of all my own. I said to myself: "If I keep walking throughout the night, I can arrive in town at dawn and I wouldn't have to sleep outside!" The thought of a good meal and a soft bed can motivate any man to push through but, as it so often goes at night in the forest, I soon found myself hopelessly lost when I encountered the same tree for the fourth time in a row. I sat down and nearly wept, were it not that I suddenly spotted a light up ahead. Heading towards an unknown light in the middle of the forest probably is not the smartest idea but I was tired, hungry, and getting desperate. So I patted the leaves off my breeches and followed the light. It was weird: with every step I took toward the light, the light moved one step out of my reach. In my desperation I broke out in a sprint trying to catch up to it. After a couple of minutes my foot got caught under an exposed root and I stumbled into a clearing. After I finished lamenting my misfortune, I looked up and was amazed. The clearing was decorated with lanterns hung from tree branches, insects of all different colours buzzed around, including a particularly large firefly I had mistaken for the light, and in the middle stood an enormous table bedecked with food and drinks covering every square inch. And at the head of this table sat a woman. A woman dressed in silk garments of every colour imaginable, with twigs woven through her hair and a silver circlet upon her brow. Moonlight reflected in her eyes and I could swear she was engulfed in a soft, warm glow.
“A guest!” She shouted and got up. She helped me to my feet. “I was so afraid no one would show up to my party. Come sit. Sit and eat and drink with me.”
I was too surprised to refuse and thus I was treated to a most exquisite meal and pleasant company. The woman was as excited as I was flabbergasted.
“I was giving up hope that anyone would come.” She said, “I even made it all formal with written invitations and everything! That way they would have to show up, right? But where are my manners?” She poured me a cup of wine. “Are you a lord? Or perchance a duke?”
Her enthusiasm made it so that I would not, could not, disappoint her. She was a noble lady, like the ones I read about, so I followed in the fairytale story and told her: “A knight actually. A wandering knight travelling the roads to see where they lead to.”
Her eyes lit up with a twinkle and we got to talking. Her name was Duchess Calpe Belinapter. She told me that she threw a lot of these parties but this was the first time someone actually showed up. She lamented it had to do with her having dominion over insects, spiders and other things that give most lords and ladies the heebiejeebies. Or that most people do not even know who she was. It was not her fault she overslept that one time this bard wrote a play involving all the other lords and ladies so her name does not show up in the play. “Not even in the appendix!” She huffed and reached for a cup of wine.
We drank, we feasted and made merry. Drunk on wine, courtship and laughter, I pledged to resolve her troubles. I would travel the land as her knight-errant and tell the people about Duchess Calpe Belinapter: The Lady of Butterflies, Mother Moth, the Queen-Mother of Moondust and Starlight, Lady Lacewing, Her Mottled Majesty. Her standing would rise, her influence would grow and the lords and ladies of the court would never be able to turn a cold shoulder to her. And she would be my lady. We toasted to our newfound commitment and the feast turned to black.
When I next awoke, I was outside the town I was travelling to. Was it but a dream? A mere figment of my imagination brought on by hunger and tiredness? Who knows? All I can say is that I have been getting a lot more butterfly kisses lately…'
Tyrgram’s feet have walked many roads by now. He is going south for the winter, intent on visiting his family. A cozy little town by the name of Longsaddle lies ahead and if he hurries, he can just make it to the tavern before the sun sinks behind the horizon.
D.4: In Longsaddle, you enter the "Gilded Horseshoe" inn (maybe to drink or eat something, maybe to get a room, maybe you have one already... as you prefer):
The "Gilded Horseshoe" inn is the smallest in Longsaddle, but the Snulgers family, who run it, make guests feel right at home. The owner, Erah Snulgers, is a woman in her fifties, quite plump, though that doesn't stop her from bustling about energetically to keep the inn going. Her short blond curls are becoming sparse, but usually others notice rather her light blue eyes that stare with sincere interest at the interlocutor and the open smile with which she tries to make everyone feel welcome. She, as usual, tries to talk with strangers and new customers like you and after chatting a while and getting the impression you might be an adventurer she confides: "You know, friend? There's a good girl who really needs you... and will even be happy to pay you, if you can help her! Or at least maybe you can give her a word of comfort...You don't already know Shoeless Martha, do you? Her full name would be Martha Sharnshield, but we all call her that, here, after an event that occurred when she was thirteen..." "However," she sighs "she needs help - she's hiring adventurers urgently - and as her family, the Sharnshields, are one of the most powerful families in all of Longsaddle, there's little doubt she's able to pay! I... I would pay her a visit, if I were you. Right away. Given all the trouble she's giving herself - despite her condition - it must really be both an important and an urgent matter".
Tyrgram entered the small inn. There was another one in town, a bigger one, but the aesthetic of this one appealed more to him. It reminded him of home. He motioned to the matron to order and took a near the hearth. An older woman, Tyrgram estimated her to be around his mom's age, approached his table to take his order. He ordered the house special - you can never go wrong with the local speciality - along with a mug of ale and a small plate of berries. When the meal was served, Tyrgram eagerly dug in. The berries he sat aside out of sight as he learned from experience most, if not all, inn owners do not like it to suddenly see a handful of insects crawling or fluttering around their establishment. After finishing his meal Tyrgram planned on retiring for the evening when the woman, who introduced herself as Erah, told him about a Martha Sharnshield and her shoeless troubles.
'No child should go shoeless!'Tyrgram replied firm. He hoisted his backpack off the ground and fished out some coin from his pouch. 'I would like to reserve a room for later. But I'll first go and see what ails this young woman.'
Tyrgram strode across the room. Before he left through the door, he turned around. 'Could you leave some fruit in my room? For a midnight snack.' His expression turned sheepish. 'And, uhm... where do I find this Martha?'

Appearance:
Great Mister_Whisker, thank you for your interest in my quest! All good so far; just remember to finally fulfill point D - role-play your character's reaction upon hearing about the quest!
Ah yes, right... may have overlooked that lol.
The "Night Cloak" inn is the most understated and pensive in all Longsaddle; inside you can practically breathe magic, with animated brooms that keep clean and invisible servants who bring customers what they have ordered. The owner is a retired wizard, an old woman with numerous but shallow wrinkles, who somehow still seems to be able to keep up with time: her brown eyes still sparkle with that intelligence that led her to excel in the arts arcane, her step is still brisk (at least for a person of his age), her posture just slightly hunched over and some of her hair still retains its original jet-black color (even if it is no more than a few strands in the dense and neat hair of straight white hair). At one point, realizing that some foreigners (including you) have entered, she announces: "Oh, gentlemen, allow me to give you some information on behalf of one of our fellow citizens in evident difficulty. Miss Martha Sharnshield appears to be in urgent need of the services of adventurers; you know, one of those somewhat mysterious and probably dangerous matters where, however, you can get well paid. If by any chance you think you might be the right type for her, she recommended that you contact her immediately. Sharnshield Manor is on the north side of Longsaddle, you cannot miss it. If this news was of your interest, I'm glad I was helpful"
An enormous half-orc sits in the corner of the bar, marveling at the magical goings on, scribbling down notes in a crude book. He pauses when the inn's matron starts speaking. He scratches his head, and a few leaves fall onto the floor. He's always ready to listen to a more experienced spellcaster, and hopefully glean a few magic secrets. But when she start's talking about a quest, his shoulders sag. That isn't very interesting or magic-related. He sighs and turns his attention back to the book, when another thought suddenly occurs to him.
Whatever Miss Sharnshield has going on, it is apparently of interest to the wizard lady... and maybe, just maybe, if he does a good job then Rash will get into the wizard lady's good graces, and perhaps she could teach him some magic... or at least put him in contact with someone willing to do so.
For a moment, he hesitates. But he quickly decides that there's nothing to lose here. He rises from his seat, and at nearly seven feet tall he strikes quite an imposing figure, with several scars acquired during the annual boar hunt and messy hair kept in dreadlocks. He grips his staff in one calloused hand, his spellbook in the other
"Well ma'am, that does sound like a very interesting idea,"he says with what he hopes is a friendly smile. "I spent my life up 'till now livin' in the wild with the rest of my kinfolk, so I know a thing or two about danger. If this Miss Sharnshield is in need of a helpin' hand, I'm sure she could do worse than a bloke like me. Now, would you mind pointen' me to which way is north?"

Unhappy that the market got rid of individual purchases for one-off subclasses, magic items, and monsters?

You can by all means post the link here! I'll still make the final decision on June 29, but there's no harm in having a chance to poke around first.
Great! Both Furujiru and Mister_Whisker have completed their applications so, situation is now:

Applications to complete (unless I'm mistaken... correct me if you think I've missed a post of yours - or something in a post of yours): Aydnkyi made a practically empty post... If you need help on something (directions on how to generate stats or something like that) try asking, I will help you. MakingMerryMusic rolled the stats (and well) but didn't provide character details yet. Oberon99 rolled the stats but didn't provide character details yet. YoFizz rolled the stats but didn't provide character details yet.
Name: Ilwythe Race/Subrace: Half-Orc/- Class/Subclass: Barbarian/(future) Path of the Zealot Physical appearance: A tall green and silver skinned Half-Orc with yellow eyes Personality, character, ideals: I have a perfectionist mindset, settling for nothing less. I strive to improve myself and the world around me.
I got my possessions by rolling for GP (2d4*10, I got 6), then spending it.
Backstory: Ilwythe was once an esteemed member of the Orcish clan of Gruumsh-Talrey, rich in both praise and coin. But there was one thing different about him: he secretly despised Gruumsh. He thought his slaughter needless. So, he turned to another god: Ilmater, the LG god of perseverance, martyrdom, and endurance. But when his clan found out, he was banished. The only things he managed to save from his home were his sword and shield, along with his mule and cart. But by going back, he paid a price: one of the Gruumish priests cursed him to forever wander, never able to settle down. He now has a single gold piece to his name, along with a single hope: the Amulet of Ilmater, rumored to be around here, may be able to banish his curse.
RP#2: Ilwythe finds an alley to sleep in. It seems that’s the only place he’s able to, these days. He notices a poster on the wall and leans in to examine it. What’s this? Riches? Magical artifacts? Maybe the Amulet is there. It could end my suffering. What do you say, Lani, it’s not like we have anything else to do, and at least one of our problems can be fixed for the time being. Let’s go. It’ll be a long walk tonight. Let’s hope we can get some food there.
Thank you very much for your interest in my campaign! Only a thing I ask you to change: the Path of the Zealot comes from Xanathar's Guide To Everything, while i prefer we use only Basic Rules, Player's Handbook, Dungeon Master's Guide and Monster's Manual in character creation/development - optional rules like multiclassing (this for when you level-up, of course) and feats allowed, no homebrew. So paths available to barbarian, once you get to select one, will be Path of the Berserker or Path of the Totem Warrior., no Zealot. Of course, nothing prevents Ilwythe from feeling great loyalty to Ilmater all the same!
To tell the truth, for the equipment I would have preferred you to take the starting one, rather than rolling for money and buy - the character builder guides you easily in choosing the initial equipment... but you've done that by now so it's ok all the same, no problem.
K, slightly updated then (guess I had my char setup settings wrong):
Name: Ilwythe Race/Subrace: Half-Orc/- Class/Subclass: Barbarian/(future) Path of the Totem Warrior Physical appearance: A tall green and silver skinned Half-Orc with yellow eyes Personality, character, ideals: I have a perfectionist mindset, settling for nothing less. But by going back, he paid a price: one of the Gruumish priests cursed him to forever wander, never able to settle down. He learned about the nature of his curse in a horrid accident three years ago, losing his only possessions to an orc raid (of, unknown to him, Gruumsh-Talrey, who didn’t realize who he was either). He’s had to work from the ground up, but even now has only a single gold piece to his name, along with a single hope: the Amulet of Ilmater, rumored to be around here, may be able to banish his curse.
I took starting equipment, my background gave me 15 gp, of which I spent 10 on a shield, and I made 4 vanish for character reasons.
Additionally, my character makes his meager living off street music and fighting bouts.
Updated RP (#2):I walk up the long road to town. It’ll be my fifth this Tenday. Still, I have hope, if barely. Even if it isn’t real, I have no other hopes. Plus, I heard there was a temple of Him in the area. That will be nice.
…
“Excuse me, sir, do you know where the temple is”, I question to a random man. But, as I do, I notice something. He replies.
”Thanks! That’s close… so left at Hyldaggeth-son-Lynanarwyth Lane. Thanks!”
I approach the poster slowly. Reading the contents warily, I guess I might as well try. There is a chance it’s there, and there is money… I might as well check it out.
(Trying to RP him as polite and devout, while cautiously optimistic about possibly being able to rid himself of his curse).

It's going to be the Warlock.
Will post the character sheet, background and other relevant information later this weekend.
William Brackwater: Human Fighter - The Windward Isles
Tyrgram, the Butterfly Knight: Dwarf Warlock - Secret of Greenwold
Iòlinder Corrach: Half Elf War Cleric - Allansia Adventure
Valerius Sergius Publius: Dhampir Paladin - Vae Victus
I must be REALLY chaotic then; I hate even having all lucky rolls. Or all mid-range or all low for that matter. Way too boring LOL.
Famh Thrawn Fiadhaich - 'half elven' sorcerer (wild magic) 2, Sleeping Gods - A Dragon Warriors campaign in the Lands of Legend
Quspira Inirali - tiefling cleric (Life domain) 4, Painted's "He'll be the father of my child"
---RETIRED HEROES' REST HOME---
Sae Ivui Nailo - wood elf rogue (inquisitive) 5 , Sea of Death: Captain Hailstorm's Lost Treasure
Ryshraxea "Shra" Naranthi - tabaxi artificer 1, Nyx's Tomb of Annihilation - Group 1
I have the soultion for you: declare point buy, then assign the points of the point buy randomly... If you get a result that you do not like (can not be all high or all low, this way - but can be all same range) you just decide how to fix or reassign randomly (hoping for a more satisfactory result) 😉
Name: Rashugri "Rash" Bloodskull
Race: Half-orc
Class: Wizard
Appearance:
Unhappy that the market got rid of individual purchases for one-off subclasses, magic items, and monsters?

Name: Tyrgram, the Butterfly Knight
Race/Subrace: Human, variant
Class/Subclass: Warlock, Archfey patron
Background: Entertainer (storyteller)
https://ddb.ac/characters/102971336/o5yswH
Physical appearance:
Personality traits:
- Everyone loves a good story
- Stories are the lifeblood of society and I have shed a lot of blood. Wait, that came out wrong…
Ideals:
- We need stories. Not because they tell us that dragons exist, we all know that, but because they tell us that dragons can be beaten.
Bonds:
- The Lady of Butterflies, Duchess Calpe Belinapter
Flaws:
- Sometimes I don’t notice the thing right in front of me.
'No child should go shoeless!' Tyrgram replied firm.
William Brackwater: Human Fighter - The Windward Isles
Tyrgram, the Butterfly Knight: Dwarf Warlock - Secret of Greenwold
Iòlinder Corrach: Half Elf War Cleric - Allansia Adventure
Valerius Sergius Publius: Dhampir Paladin - Vae Victus
He grips his staff in one calloused hand, his spellbook in the other
"Well ma'am, that does sound like a very interesting idea," he says with what he hopes is a friendly smile.

The curse of needing gold to survive? :p
Lol! This is more a curse for the wizards, with all what they have to pay for! Rare inks to copy spells, costly components to perform some incantation... I keep wondering if this is the reason so many times the BBEG who wants to size power (and money) is a wizard 😉
I think that's why so many wizards tend to befriend alchemists ... hoping they'll finally discover the Philosopher's Stone and be able to turn lead into gold for themselves and maybe, a couple nice wizard pals PLEEEEZE (*cue wizardly puppydog eyes* *blink blink*)
