Sae turns to the others, frustrated by her inability to get through to the spirit. 'It's not answering me. ... Sorry, let me explain. When I looked closer at the lamp, I saw the light was coming from a spirit within ... it looked like a young boy. And when I touched its thoughts there was nothing but pain. I asked it how we could help, but it seemed too trapped in its misery to answer. So this really is priest's work, Wade. I don't know if your god gives you any powers that could dispel such magic as is keeping it trapped -- or protect us from the spirit if it attacks us in its madness.
The other choice is to try and take the lamp without touching it ... perhaps I could make a net of my Tavarii scarf and someone could use a pole to unhook the lamp and drop it in? The Admiral did say to bring it back to him, so maybe he has some ideas in mind as to what to do."

I'll take that as a 'no' on anyone having the Identify spell... so I'll start moving things along again.
As soon as you begin a physical examination of the lantern, you hear the sound of something in the water; the sound of rusty metal plates clanking together echoes through the cavern...
If you look towards the sound, you see a figure in heavy armor emerge from the lake to stand atop a pile of rotten debris...
The skeleton lets out a horrific screech, and you hear the waters churning as the corpses below finally awaken from their stupor... it seems that this was their role. To punish those who would dare to touch the lantern!
(Do you mean to the shore that you came from, or the pile of debris that the skeletal warrior is standing on top of? In the former case, the easiest place to cross over is a 10-foot gap between the boat and the shore. In the latter, the skeleton is standing on what looks like an overturned lifeboat about 20-ft away from the ship)

This case. Are there skeletons on the shore? I'm considering having Emrys take the lantern and ask Arleo to throw him at the shore so he dashes and attract the enemies. How would this work turn-wise? Could the halfling be thrown on the the shore? Any rolls necessary and how far would he be from enemies?
Silent like a shadow Emrys entered the cabin and observed his colleagues investigating the place. Not understanding the situation he kept his eyes peeled, scanning their surroundings for an enemy ambush. The memory of the spirit’s room still fresh in his mind. Out of instinct he kept his guard up while listening Sae’s explanation and maybe because of that he was fast to react to the armored skeleton.
His first thought was a curse, the second was that surrounded as they were running was a better option than fighting. The problem is that the enemies were unlikely to allow that. We need to distract them. His eyes darted to the lantern, then back to the shore, where no undead stood on guard.
“Give me the lantern, but wrapped in some cloth!” The halfling asked fast before turning to Arleo. “Get in Rage and throw me into the shore with it. As far as you can.” The triton was the muscle closest to his position. “Wait for the things to start chasing me before following!”
Adrenaline ran fast through Emrys’ veins. He was ready to dash after landing. Go as far as his small legs could allow. The sooner he could find water the better. He was better swimming and doubted those creatures would outspeed him submerged.
Notes: Emrys asked someone to pass him the lantern covered by cloth (so he don't touch it directly) then asked Arleo to throw him into the shore. As soon as Emrys lands he uses his full movement speed to go into the direction the group came from, then spends his action to dash in the same direction. @DM, let me know if any rolls from Emrys.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Areleo will go into a rage as his body expands and his tail grows to land on the deck floor. He then picks up the halfling and spins and throws Emrys towards the shore.
Athletics: 26, (if this counts as a Str check I have an advantage so extra roll) 24
" Destroying it would harm him?"
Wade will look for a way to take the lantern apart and possibly release the creature within.
D&D since 1984
Does anyone here have the identify spell?
Unhappy that the market got rid of individual purchases for one-off subclasses, magic items, and monsters?

Sayyida looked the lantern over, " It doesn't look dangerous, can't we just pick it up? Even if my urge is to smash the thing to pieces...."
[This was what I was asking before when I asked if someone wanted to check this out.]
(Yes, the picture is accurate. The lantern is hanging from a hook on the end of a short chain)

Ahhh... it would probably take a moderately difficult Athletics check to pull that off without hurting you.
As far as you can tell there currently aren't any zombies on the shore.

Areleo will definitely be willing to try that. A little fast ball special.

Sayyida moves to cover Areleo and Emrys, striking to cut down any undead that approaches Areleo....
