The door isn't catching fire... so the Flaming Sphere must have stopped. You are apparently safe again. Already have a new destination? Or do you prefer to discuss or share ideas first?
I think we'd better discuss what we're going to do about these fireballs for a while...
"I have no idea what's going on with them,"Rash admits. "I suppose it could just be magic starting to break down and manifesting in odd ways after hundreds of years... but nothing else seems to be working in a way that it wasn't supposed to..."
Rash takes a moment to try to puzzle out what exactly is going on here...

Unhappy that the market got rid of individual purchases for one-off subclasses, magic items, and monsters?
Thinking back to magical phenomena he has heard of, Rash connects those fiery globes to the Flaming Spheres, effects of a spell he has heard of.
There are many similarities… The same size… The same brightness… The same speed the spheres move…
However, there are also important differences: for example, an ordinary Flaming Sphere should move only directed by the will of whoever creates it... and have a limited duration in time.
So either it's a modified version of the spell... or it's something else altogether.
However, the fact, for example, that the Sphere is not trying to burn the door, seems to suggest more a sort of scripted intelligence, than a malfunction... A malfunctioning spell would probably act in a more uncontrolled way.
"I'm guessing that these things were left here on purpose,"Rash says after pondering for a few moments. "Still doesn't explain why they're attacking us after we got the flag that is specifically supposed to protect us... well, guess that's not important right now, the important thing is that they are attacking us and we need to watch out for 'em."
He sighs.
"Maybe we should check the door that the last one was guarding and see if there's anything useful in there... also, it kind of seems like the flaming spheres start moving towards us as soon as they can 'see' us... however that works... and stop when they can't."

Rash opens the door that the last one was guarding and sees if there's anything useful in there...
The room is practically bare, except for many disembodied floating heads and self moving hands. That's four heads and eight hands in all. The heads, upon seeing the door open, all together turn their dead eyes towards the half-orc... they seem to stare at him with hatred... slowly approaching... followed by the hands, that crawl under them... bringing an unpleasant stench of decomposition... but they stop before exiting the room.
If someone dared to enter, there would be another exit, without a door, in the room (?10)...
"I guess as long as we can keep avoiding those things we can just not worry about it," Roxana says a bit skeptically. "It would be nice to figure it out. Do you think those things would really attack?"
Once they get back to the first room where they found a sphere she asks, "What are you seeing up there Rash?" (OOC - Not sure if anyone else can see what's happening?)
"A bunch of evil flying heads..." Rash says as he shuts the door. "They don't seem to be able to leave the room, though... I'm thinking we should look around the purple area a bit and hopefully find that second flag. Maybe the living spells and bizzare monsters will leave us alone once we get it... or maybe not, but at least it's worth a try."

"Evil flying heads?" Roxana says. And having not seen it she says, "Is that even real?" She shakes her head. "Sure, let's all backtrack again and go to the purple area," she says with a sigh, clearly getting annoyed at this process.
After walking a bit, she adds in a loud voice, hoping everyone will hear. "Can't one of you magic types do some magic and figure out what's happening?"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"I guess they could be illusions," Rash says... and it's not hard to tell that he's also starting to lose his patience with this place. "But I ain't really in the mood to test that theory... reality is that we're dealing with some insanely powerful and ancient magic. I think Spira will agree with me that we can't just wave our hands and unravel the secrets of whatever is going on around this place..."
All that being said... Rash will still try to make sense of what he just saw.

This time the half-orc wizard does not remember anything in particular... Disembodied hands and heads? First time she sees them. Never heard about them.
So you decide to head to southern alcove and what you call the 'purple area'... Will it be 6 or 7?
(OOC: Lol! It's the dawn of the half-orcs! First Mhurren Flick... Now Rashugri Bloodskull...)
However, the Rash leads the party to the south alcove and unhesitatingly chooses the passage that goes west.
As he gets to the turning point, however, two things happen.
First, the half-orc wizard notes that the passage looks like a dead end... at the bottom of which one of the infamous Flaming Spheres is lurking! The fireball, in his style, immediately starts rolling towards you.
Secondly, suddenly the sound of a hand bell ringing can be heard (no hand bell can be seen, though). At the same time, many figures in bas-relief (not only in your area, but about everywhere) start repeating "Intruders have been detected! Everyone leave the area for your own safety. The security patrols will arrive shortly to exterminate the intruders".
What to do?
(OOC: Again, since the only visible threat for now, i.e. the Flaming Sphere, is far away and cannot reach you in one round, it is not necessary that you roll for initiative)
"I am going to strangle whoever designed this damned place," Rash growls. "Even if I have to dig the bastard up to do it... Everyone, let's get into a more open space so they can't box us in! If we need to we should be able to retreat upstairs... then I think it might be worth the time to find that stuff I need to summon a familiar so we can scout ahead instead of running into one of these damned fireballs every time we turn a corner. Especially since we have the flag and know the password now."
On the way out, Rash will shoot a ray of frost at this thing just to check if it can actually be hurt or not.

The ray misses, but you have the time to choose where to retreat; decision really important, because if a fight breaks out, you'll have to release hands to fight (unless trying to kill enemies with kicks).
You take position in the southern alcove? Or in the spiral staircase room? Or where?
Spira growls, "I entirely agree with you, Rash. And I'll be glad to arrange for their resurrection after you've strangled them so the rest of us can get our turns. Let's get over by the stairs up, and figure out what to do. Elky didn't seem to remember us each new time, so maybe the place resets after people leave. And then we can figure out what to do. Maybe it has something to do with that strange saying he quoted to us, with all the 'l' words in it ... or what he said about following the exact path. Though how we're supposed to know what the path is when he disappeared and the flag keeper never showed us ..." She begins to mutter under her breath

All right... you manage to get back to the spiral staircase and also to go back up again without any other bad encounters.
All the while, some of the bas-relief figures keep repeating the original message obsessively: "Intruders have been detected! Everyone leave the area for your own safety. The security patrols will arrive shortly to exterminate the intruders" but evidently 'shortly' it isn't 'shortly' enough to intercept you.
You are upstairs, back to Level 1. No one chased you up the stairs, neither the Flaming Sphere nor any 'security patrols'.
"You have chosen a quiet and pleasant place to explore..." comments Solitude, panting slightly. "Sorry," she then adds, "I want to help you, not discourage you. But it certainly seems like a place where danger lurks at every corner. Could it really be as our wise Spira says? That the halfling butler's words were meant to be a sort of another twisted riddle?"
The tielfing quotes them from memory, murmuring: "Once in the other alcove, remember the old saying: 'Leave loneliness, later; remember lore, really! And be constant'. Yes, there are many 'L's, in fact... 4 words beginning with 'L'... definitely the majority... While 2 begin with 'R', 1 with 'A', 1 with 'B' and one with 'C'..."
Anita furtively nudges Rash: "What do you think? What Solitude and Spira are noticing suggests something to you? Apart from the already declared homicidal intentions towards whoever conceived all this, I mean".
"Since it's a place where Dobbian - albeit indirectly - has led us, it doesn't surprise me too much that it's giving us a lot of trouble" comments Gaer. "If nothing else," he at least tries to console himself "at least we've explored several sections of it ... Sooner or later we'll find the right one too, don't we think?"
(OOC - Sorry this got a bit out of place between starting to type and getting time to finish!)
"We better move since the announcement said we'd be exterminated!" Roxana is more than ready to move back to where the spiral staircase is located. (Which we had already crossed 3 times... without triggering Elky? Though maybe we didn't stay long enough?)
When back into the staircase, Roxana says. "Seems we have no way to know if those spheres will or won't harm us. Or if the evil floating heads were real." From the tone of her voice, it's obvious she doesn't think it very likely.
(OOC: Since Spira suggested to 'Let's get over by the stairs up' I assumed you all went upstairs, back to Level 1! Anyway, yes, you didn't trigger Elky last times)
