Roxana smiles as it seems Aidwyn is on the path to recovery and at least able to joke about what happened. She asks Aidwyn, "If we wander about a bit more you want to join us? Or just take a breather for a bit."
The woman starts to stand and calls out to the others. "Do we want to check out those passages we haven't explored yet? At least get a glimpse before Rash and Anita get back." She pauses, "I kind of want to peak at that room with the disembodied heads and hands too. It seemed like we got the burning spheres if it was the wrong way. That room was different."
"As you prefer, we'll be no 'mates', then" the tiefling returns Obadiah's gaze harshly. "I could bring to your attention that I had no need to 'impress' a girl who is already impressed by me. And at that point you might understand that perhaps my aim was something else - for example to prevent what happened to poor Aidwyn from happening to said girl. By Asmodeus' wings, did you see what hit her? I still don't know how she got out alive after taking those ten blows! Ten!"
“Finally,” Gaer has turned his back already on the woodsman, however waving one of the Purple Kylth's Flags eloquently “I too am interested in bringing Dobbian back to life, or I wouldn't have gotten you these, right? As you see, there's probably a lot you could understand. .. if you only moved your brain as fast as your tongue".
The tiefling is about to returns to Roxana's side...
As soon as the tiefling turns away, the white-haired warrior grabs him by the shoulder and forcibly turns him back again. "Where I come from it is considered cowardly to insult a man and turn his back on him." He says, locking eyes with Gaer again. "My brains might be slow but I'm not the one with the fast tongue. But don't think for a minute that your tongue will save you from my wrath if you try to insult me again." He continues, not letting go of the smooth talking tiefling. "Now tell me, why are you doing this? Why should we believe you are coming along simply to help Dobbian??"
"In case you didn't notice, you started disrespecting me, with your gratuitous insinuations..." Gaer does his best not to look too scared "But, well, if we want to get back in the groove of civilization... would you mind letting me go? You know, I speak more easily when I don't have another man's hands on me... As for the 'coming along', Quspira and I knew Dobbian! Didn't my sister tell you? That boy is trouble... always was, always will be... But that he deserves to be dead, no, I don't believe that".
"oy boys!" calls Aidwyn finishing strapping his armor "would you mind to remember that we all are in the same team and that there's no need to measure anything? Just behave boys! "
The white-haired warrior couldn't help but smirk briefly. If the smug tiefling hoped he would impress him with fancy words he was gravely mistaken. If he meant the wooing there would hardly be any point in insinuating something about what the tiefling himself so blatantly expressed, but Obadiah finally lets go of him. Admittedly he as a bit slow but tiefling's explanation still didn't quite make sense to the white-haired warrior. "So why did you happen to end up here then, before us? Hardly by coincidence."
"Did you notice that I was among the prisoners of the Zhentarim?" Gaer points out "And you didn't hear what I explained to my sister when we reunited? Well, if not, no problem, I can repeat - I ended up here because the Zhentarim captured me. And they captured me because as my sister and I traveled to Longsaddle, I realized that someone was following us. I tried to lure them away from my sister, then to lose them. One thing I succeeded, the other I didn't".
"Finally, did you happen to hear what Aidwyn said now?" the tiefling points his thumbs to the warrior girl "It seems to me an intelligent observation... So... what do you say? End of the interrogation and beginning of a little mutual trust?"
"Yes, let's just settle down a bit and let the tempers calm. Gaer here hardly came here by choice. But for better or worse, he and several others have decided to help us." Roxana shakes her head with a sigh. "So are we waiting for Rash or want to take a quick look while waiting?"
Gaer, looking slightly worried, replies to Roxana: "After seeing what happened to poor Aidwyn, I would recommend waiting for Rash and Anita... That bad experience made me fully realize how dangerous this place is. Among the else, Rash should come back after summoning one more help, shouldn't he? We should be even more sure after that... But" he smiles and winks at the girl from Longsaddle "if you really want to be a 'curious person' all the way and take a quick look, I perfectly understand... and, of course, I'll come with you".
It still seemed like a strange coincidence that the tiefling would be brought to the place where the means of saving Dobbian was to be found, but Obadiah decides to let it go. "An advice for you Gaer. If you want to be a gentleman, don't ever brag about a girl being impressed with you."He says calmly, then nodding to the others to make clear he's ready to continue the exploration.
“It is obvious that none of you know how a gentleman behaves.” cuts Aidwyn grabbing her shield and sword. “Let’s go take a peek on those other corridors Roxanna, I’d rather face another magical trap than keep seeing… whatever this is…” and after grabbing a yellow flag she offers her hand to Roxanna
The veiled insult of the tiefling did not escape the woodsman. The two clearly had different views on what made a gentleman, but it seemed pointless to explain that to the smooth-tongued tiefling. If it were not for the time pressing matter at hand he would not have hesitated to teach the tiefling some manners, but with a force of will Obadiah ignores the tiefling's comment.
"I understand your concern Gaer, but I think Aidwyn and I are going to proceed on. Let's go Aidwyn." Roxana offers the woman her hand and sets off down the hallway where they had obtained the yellow flags. Of course, she makes sure to carry both the yellow and purple flags! She leads the way, going straight past the first left then truning at the second left. At the next intersection she heads for the left. (She is going to the point marked ?8 in Post #914.)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Not wanting to aggravate the others any further, Obadiah follows at a short distance, holding his yellow flag, ready to rush forward if anything should threaten his companions.
Roxana therefore leads the party in a further exploration of the area that is located after the eastern alcove.
Passing by the door of the yellow flags guardian, Gaer lingers for a moment: "I'll join you right away... I'm just trying to get another Yellow Flag too. After all, the more we have, the less constraints we have in moving, right?"
The girl from Longsaddle has time to get to the mouth of the branch she wanted to explore... when, all of a sudden, a sadly familiar thing happens, one that already happened once, before: the sound of a hand bell ringing can be heard (no handbell can be seen, though). At the same time, many figures in bas-relief (not only in your area, but about everywhere) start repeating "Intruders have been detected! Everyone leave the area for your own safety. The security patrols will arrive shortly to exterminate the intruders".
With a sigh, Roxana says, "Let's back up and head out."
Once back past the mosaic, at the base of the spiral stair, she says, "Could it be too many flags? Two hadn't seemed to be an issue in the other area."She takes a moment to see if there was anyone not carrying a yellow flag or holding hands with someone who was.
(OOC: So, like before, you all go back up the stairs and back to level 1?)
Roxana, going back to the room with mosaics, tries to see if anyone is without the protection of the flag, yet everything seems in order...
The two flags Roxana carries, both Yellow and Purple, burn with their characteristic flame without heat, as when held by someone (so they should be active). She was holding Aidwyn's hand... Obadiah has a personal Yellow flag (also burning)... and now Gaer has one too (also burning) - the tiefling hastened to join you, worried, on hearing the alarm: "Roxana, are you all right?" and after a moment "And you guys too, of course... are you all right?"
(OOC: we could be in doubt for Spira, but I assume that, if she had decided to follow you too, she would have joined hands with Aidwyn - or she would have waited for her brother then joined hands with him - she never went around flagless, she would have had no reason to start doing it now)
(OOC - I had said to stop at the bottom of the stairs, curious if we continue to hear the warnings or do they stop? I'm unclear when they stopped last time. Also, do we have an idea of when the alert started? Was it when Gaer knocked? When Roxana stepped towards the passage they'd not yet explored?)
