The stone hits the 'king' on the shoulder, bouncing off the armor... but probably leaving a painful bruise underneath, given the power conferred on it by the magic.
"F*ing she-dwarf bastard!" replies the half-orc "You should have arrived yesterday! I would have sold you together with that other one! Well, I'll keep you prisoner for next time..."
Now round 2 starts! Nimblestep, Ardana, Clas, Barakor, Ilwythe and Tarysaa are up! Any order.
If at first you don't succeed, try try a gun... wait. AGAIN. Tarysaa steps out of the doorway into the hall. Taking her time to make certain she has a clear shot, she begins the series of gestures and intones the command word, "Gelu." As before a beam of blue-white light crackles through the air as it streaks toward the half-orc, splashing against his form.
Ray of Frost >> Ranged Attack Roll: 25 Damage: 2
(( At least it HIT ! AND, still slows him down... ))
Tarysaa smiles as she advances along the corridor toward the scrum.
Nim kicks into overdrive and DASHes into the throne room. He scrappers around quickly pocketing the papers and quill he spotted earlier before grabbing the largest of the blankets he also saw and then runs back into the hallway as far as his little feet can carry him.
(OOC: 18 might hit, damage roll is in game log, 12!)
Ardana steps to the side, feeling the inspiration from Nim and she spins with a large backhand swing from the greatsword, ending up on the left side of the Half-Orc, opposite the wolf.
(OOC: What flanking rules are we playing, if any?)
Tarysaa once again invokes the power of frost... and once again the half-orc is not prepared to receive it! The beam penetrates the rings of the Ring Mail, causing a small but annoying cold burn.
The 'king' looks at the wizard with hatred ... so he notices too late 'Ale' hitting him in the side! The heavy armor partially stops the blade, but some rings yield and the brute begins to lose blood.
In the meantime, Nim disappears for a few moments around the corner... and then reappears with... a blanket? Ok, indeed it is cold, in this month of Hammer.
Ardana confuses the half-orc with deft footwork, then, remembering Nim's words exhorting her to heroism, she delivers an inspired slash with her Greatsword, a slash too quick and accurate for the crude opponent... The heavy blade strikes at the upper part of the chest, near the neck, cutting, like 'Ale' before, some armor links and cutting the flesh underneath.
The 'king' staggers and seems to collapse...
"No way!" however, he suddenly growls, as if finding energy from who knows what unsuspecting reserve "It's not over yet!"
But Barakor has something to say about it... And with a beastly growl he snaps his fangs once again!
As if to want to avenge in a few moments the ill-treatment suffered for who knows how long, this time the wolf finds the 'king' in the throat and rips it open. He continues to bite and rage with fury, even when it is clear that the half-orc, collapsed to the ground, is already dead...
Meanwhile, a winged serpent that was coiled around the brute's arm (and that Nim had first seen before hostilities began and the little beast remained hidden) quickly takes flight, hurtling away through the south gate. Before you can stop him, it's already far away.
End of combat! Congratulations! You can act out of rounds again
Nim stands blanket in arms mouth agape at the shocking speed of the serpent that flew out of the cave.
”WHAT IN GOOD MUSIC’S NAME WAS THAT?! Well… bloody good job everyone. I must say we showed those brutes a thing or two about hospitality. Should we get that key off his highness and free the captives? I only wish we could take that throne with us.”
He then makes a gesture and his form flickers and flutters almost like static and once more he is his regular old self in appearanc.
Nim’s eyes light up in wonder at the possibilities of what a second key could unlock! A hidden door? Trap door? Hidden treasure? A poor captives shackles? So many possibilities!
He hands them over to Daisy.
”I believe you’ve earned the glory of releasing our potential new friends. You do have a calming demeanour about you. Look how it worked on Little Bara, and I think they could use a little of your matronly charm.”
Tarysaa walks up to the downed "king" and touches him lightly as she invokes SHOCKING GRASP... just because he was so nasty toward everyone. Turning to Ardana she spoke, "Is it worth peeling this ox out of the armor? I mean, with some good smith work, could you use chain link and his shield? "
She starts to walk toward the double doors and the 'throne room' before turning as an after thought, "I am going to inspect this throne and room AND make detailed sketches to show to Miss Martha AND perhaps, report to the Harpells... since all these Zhentarim seemed very worried about 'us' being sent by the Harpells."
"Oh, and before we leave to go back to Longsaddle, I want to make some quick sketches of the front marble archway too. We may have stumbled into more than we had planned. That should give everyone enough time to heal up and search all the bodies and/or rooms to make certain we didn't run passed whatever it is we are supposed to find. THAT is, if that is fine with everyone else?"
Ardana cleans the blood off the sword before she stows it, then kneels and does a quick prayer over the body of the slain leader.
(OOC: Ardana can do a divine sense in the throne room, we should also investigate that strange wall in the north corridor, but first, lets release and talk to the captives.)
Standing, Ardana goes with Daisy to talk to the prisoners after the door is unlocked.
Tarysaa hears Ardana's words and weighs them against her urge to find 'new knowledge'. It is a give and take in her soul but, she also recognizes wisdom when she hears it. With a nod, Tarysaa halts and joins Ardana as they go to release the prisoners. She waves to Clas to follow...
"Little?" Daisy asks taking the keys from the halfling. "Barakor is just as big as you." The dwarf chuckles and jingles the keys in her hand before returning to the closet where they left the prisoners. She pauses seeing the tiefling praying over the slain orc.
"Do you think we should bury them at least?" she asks Ardana as they return to the closet. "They may not have been the best people but they don't deserve to let the animals pick them apart."
Reaching the closet door, Daisy gives it a thump with her shield. "We're about to let you outta here! No funny business, okay?" The dwarf slides the key into the lock and opens the door.
"That is a question I've been wondering myself, Daisy. Bodies laying around will attract other creatures or worse. But, do we drag them all out front or into the bug tunnel? And, it's only a hour or so back to town... do we 'clean up' or let the town/Harpells worry about this place?"
Hahahaha! Having finished wiping down Ale and Barrel, Clas goes off toward the throne room, drawn once again toward the lure of coin and ale having no interest in bodies or sulking mephit prisoners. As he leaves, he gathers a handful of decent wood chips from the floor. Hahahaha! He laughs as he places them in his pack and wanders off in search of treasure.
