As the fireball dissipates, the body of the Frost Giant Everlasting One, singed and smoking, wavers, teeters, and then falls. Having her regeneration suppressed by fire, her body sizzles in the snow, steaming, and giving off a terrible smell of burnt leathers and fur.
A grumble goes over the Orc and Orog spectators, until an Orc War Chief steps out in front and silences the crowd, simply by raising his arms. He turns to speak. "The contest of single combat has determined an outsider as the winner. We will honor the result and see what he has to say."
Akkron takes a moment to twist his broken arm into a slightly more natural position.
"Very good; I have come wishing to negotiate a treaty between your tribe and the kingdom of this realm. The exact details of the treaty I am ready to discuss at length and hopefully come to a mutually beneficial arrangement. Now please, bring us back to your tribe so that we can have a proper negotiation instead of standing out here."
He pauses for a moment, then beckons for the Cleric. Though Akkron's injuries don't hurt the way they would if he was actually alive, his shattered ribcage and arm still feel uncomfortable and he knows that there is a limit to how much punishment his body can endure before giving out.
"I should also mention that, should we come to a satisfactory agreement and my companions agree that it would be the right thing to do, I can bring back the Everliving One if given enough time. I am not unmerciful in victory, and I tend to agree with Igor that it is a shame to waste life needlessly, but I am hesitant to extend such mercy to a creature whose primary motivation in life was to sew destruction in its wake."

This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.

Igor speaks up, "I will begin casting revivify, before it's too late."
The Orc War Chief motions to stay his hands. "The Everlasting One was weak. We will find another champion ourselves. Go find a Troll for his meal." He mutters a common Orc phrase that makes the crowd chuckle.
Now the Chief addresses Akkron directly, "This is our tribe. The Warriors and Chiefs. We make no treaties. Just War." He searches the faces of the Orcs, for their reactions and continues. "Washiko have lived on this mountain for many generations, with the sons and daughters of the Dragon Lorde and his brood. That time has passed. Orcs are warm from the fire within." He says a phrase in Orcish that stirs the troops. "Orcs live to fight in every battle. Orcs are brave. Orcs are proud. Revenge is a dish best served cold." With each passing phrase, he pauses so that the crowd can shout and cheer. "You have bested our champion and so we shall retreat. A word that I speak in common because it does not exist in Orcish. He pulls out a dagger and slashes a spiral cut around his left forearm, dripping blood into bright red circles in the snow.
"Very well... as long as this oath that binds your tribe is honored I will leave you alone to do as you will. My greatest concern is to protect the innocent of this world from all who would do them harm."

Agreed. ARD is a capstone monster in the MM. I'll calculate the days and distance traveled back to collect more adventurers. At this point, you could just select a number of characters and I'll roll up their stats, let's say up to ten more followers (19 total, including the ones you already have) up to 11th level. You can also bring up to three of the Defenders, going forward.
I think that, for a fight against an Ancient Red Dragon, it would probably a good idea to bring our 'friend' Juno even though she seems to hate us since she is resistant to fire damage and as a Warlock she's proficient in Wis saves (also because Akkron won't be too sad if she does something that gets herself killed lol) and Thayron since you can never have too much Clerical support.
Let's go ahead and roll up another 10 followers to form an army.
As for what item I'd like to swap out, I want to switch out the scarab of protection for a robe of the archmagi; I think that the one he could attune to would probably be gray since Akkron is genuinely doing his best to make the world better, but he's also a necromancer and he's been tasked with conquering this realm.

Akkron is quite pleased with the assortment of powerful warriors. Even against an Ancient Red Dragon, they should be more than capable of winning a glorious victory. But... Akkron has another thing that he feels he needs to discuss with someone. Once all the general preparations are done, he'll ask the Arch Wizard Kane to speak privately.
Assuming that there is a good spot to talk without the others (okay, mostly Juno) listening in and being a problem, he would like to have a scholarly discussion about... what exactly he is.
"I think it would be best if I talked to you now rather than wait for something to happen... and maybe as a scholar you will have some knowledge about a strange phenomenon that I have encountered and has left me extremely perplexed..."

"I think it would be best if I talked to you now rather than wait for something to happen... and maybe as a scholar you will have some knowledge about a strange phenomenon that I have encountered and has left me extremely perplexed..."
He leads you into a spare room and assures you that Juno is just peculiar and not a real threat.
Archmage Kane replies, "So you know that the legend of the sleeper is not merely legend. If all the Dragon Lordes are defeated, it will signal to the sleeper that their domains are unchallenged and it will awaken and wreak havoc. If this were to happen, I will command every resource and every soldier in all the kingdoms to fight for the very existence of the realm."
"The Sleeper," Akkron echoes, momentarily forgetting what he was actually going to ask about. "What do we know of the nature of this being?"
Kane scratches his head, "We have very little writings from the last time the sleeper awoke. A partial manuscript, dated over 1100 years ago, says that the sleeper was an enormous creature that consumed everything in its path."
He sits down and gestures you to sit as well. "You've got to understand, this legend is the basis of our entire society. The first time the sleeper awoke, the greatest heroes of the realm defeated it. Afterwards, it regenerated and then burrowed deep underground, never to be seen from again. So the legend says, on that day, The Circle of Wisdom was established and every generation inherits the position from a Defender before, all the way back to the original Defenders."
Kane pulls out a tobacco pipe and offers you some and then goes about packing, "The story is so old that most people just think it's all legend. I'm here to say, that when Thayon reported the bad omen of your arrival, I went deep into research mode and I discovered the truth. The Sleeper is real."
Kane uses some prestidigitation to light up his pipe and makes square smoke rings. "Tiamat's Spawns wanted to rule this land and somehow their Collective Powers suppressed the sleeper's ability to wake. My magical research may be a little fuzzy on the details, but this one fact is true, there will be no peace until there is an end to the Dragon Lordes but then there will be a final challenge."
Kane pauses for dramatic effect. "And I for one, <pause> welcome this challenge."
He gets up to leave and turns back to say, "With you on our side, we shall surely win."
"Well, as a matter of fact I do," Akkron says. "I'm sure you guessed that I wasn't born here... not in the normal sense of the word, anyway. But... I'm not sure where I actually came from. I must have been brought here by some god... but I don't know how... the first thing I remember here is crawling out of a shallow grave, so I suppose I must have been resurrected by something. But I don't think it went quite right, perhaps I was dead for too long... I've only been able to recall my former life in brief glimpses..."
He sighs.
"I suppose you probably don't know much more about divine resurrection magic and its possible side effects than I do, but I thought I should ask you since you have more access to the various ancient records and tomes than I do."

"Ahh, the gods and their fickle wants. Believe it or not, I've crossed paths with a vexed Deity, once or twice."
His pipe is lit and the rings he blows are different shades of colors. "The magic that they wield is sublime. I myself, track my spells in ranks. Although, I've experimented with spells above my ability, to memorize such a spell too soon would cause either madness or chaos in the spellweave. It's our mortal condition that limits our mind to possess spell ranks above our ability."
He leans in to address you, face to face, "But for a god. there is no limit to spell ranks. A god can cast a spell that not only goes back in time but can alter the trajectory of time to cause a different outcome. With such power in deity rank spells, one could simply remake everything, undo creation, or change it on a large scale."
"Memories are a tricky thing to change or repair as well. I'd say that it could take a deity rank spell to restore someone's memory completely. However, I've spent some time in the nexus and what I've learned is that spells are much more powerful there. I bet you could cast a powerful enough spell from that dimension and your memories would be completely restored. (wish cast while on the astral plane would have maximum range and effect)"
He puts away his pipe as if to leave, "It's such a pleasure to discuss such high arcana with someone else who truly understands. I'm sorry again, did you have some other questions to ask?"
