”Dust lies on the stonework everywhere but the hands and face. I will skip the belt—it looks like that has not been recently touched,” says Spike.
Looking at the others to make sure they are ready, he takes a deep breath and says, “The left hand finds the secret way forward, the eye sees the revealed portal, and the right hand opens the door,” as he touches each symbol in turn.

The tension mounts. Enoch steps up next to the dwarf as Spike touches the symbols, while the rest of the party tries to meld with the furthest corner of the room. Spike touches each one but nothing happens. He does it again and nothing happens. Frustrated he pressed hard down on each symbol and there were several clicks heard from inside the sarcophagus. Suddenly small holes pop open in the walls around you and a rush of air hisses from them. The party holds its breath, surprised by the springing of this trap. You wait. There is a slight smell of something foul but it's gone in an instant. The sarcophagus starts to shake and rumbling is heard coming from it. The stone starts to fold like paper starting from the top and folding out to its outer walls. The sarcophagus collapses downward and reshapes itself into steps that lead down to a floor approximately 30 ft. below. Just as suddenly as it started, the stone stopped moving. The stairs look solid.
Kiza braces herself and says a little prayer. When no explosion follows. She sighs with relief. "Well, we are safe for now. Let's get a move on." She lightly steps on each step as she heads down the stairs.
Noting that Kiza needs light as well, Essendrum steps forward with the torch, eyeing the stonework as they descend into the catacombs, hoping to spot any traps before Kiza steps on them and counting on her familiar to warn them of more traditional foes. The raven nestles into his shoulder in a manner that could almost seem affectionate were it not for the evil gleam in its eye as it peers wistfully at his jugular vein.
Enoch noticed the raven staring at it's master. His brow furrowed in confusion at the seemingly odd behavior, but even so, he unconsciously slowed to put an extra couple yards distance between himself and the wizard.
Essendrum lights a torch and the party carefully makes its way down the thin staircase. The air is stale with a lingering smell of smoke and char. As you come to the end of the staircase you find yourselves in a 10 ft. wide x 18 ft. long room. The walls and stairs of the descending staircase held nothing of interest, this room however is different. Murals and etchings cover the walls of this room. They depict priests in dark robes making sacrifices. In each of these depictions, hovering over each sacrifice is a patch of formless darkness that contains two blood-red eyes. The eyes appear to be watching. Other depictions of people suffering horrible deaths dot the walls here and there. 1 repeating symbol that can be found is a black triangle lined with silver and a skull in the midst of it. The symbol is of the dead god Myrkul. The floor is a mosaic of like images along with images depicting what you would consider demons and devils. Essendrum's torch light shines around the room and you see in the southwest corner an open doorway. Cautiously the party makes their way to the open doorway and looks inside. You find it opens to a much larger room, approximately 50 ft. x 50 ft, and is shaped like an octagon. Finding no danger you move into this room and find there is an opening in the middle of each wall of this room with a passage that goes into darkness. Looking around you see a figure in the middle of the room standing upon a dias, approximately 2 ft. high. The figure is of an old man in dark robes, his arms stretched out towards the party. Each hand appears to be holding something. The figure appears to be made of stone.
Looking at the floor, Spike says, "I really don't like patterns on floors. It always makes me think of pit traps, for some reason." He doesn't go into any section of floor with such patterns, though he does strain to see what the figure is holding in his hands (using his darkvision if needed).

Spike can tell it is made of smooth stone, white marble for the parts that are skin, and black obsidian makes up the robes. the statue is holding what appears to be wooden rods of some type, one in each hand.
"Myrkul was from the time when the Netherese Empire was in its heyday. He rose to godhood to become the god of death & decay along with Bhaal & Bane when they took their powers from the original god of death." Comments the elven priest.
Essendrum enters a trance and shifts his consciousness to the raven. The raven flies about the room without touching anything. Essendrum pays particular attention to the size of the wooden rods and looks for holes into which the rods might be fitted.
Once again, the paladin closes his eyes for a moment, reaching out with his Divine Sense to determine whether there are evil entities nearby, whether there is strong evil nearby, or whether anything has been consecrated or desecrated.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Kiza jumps back reflexively as she hears the chorus. "What by the gods was that?" Her gaze darts around the room to see if there is some ghostly apparition.

"Good luck." Bjorn says from a distance (about 20') and a healer's kit in hand.

Relieved at not having been thrown into some death trap, Enoch gave a low whistle before following Kiza down the stairs.

Essendrum wipes his brow and joins Enoch, holding his torch high so the two of them can see.
Note: this is what appeared after the sarcophagus opened up.
I will post a further map in a bit.
Spike:
Letting out the breath he started holding when the trap went off, Spike shrugs and goes down the stairs as well.
