Under a brilliant starry sky, the party quietly slips down the southern road, through the back fields, and into the hayloft at Alderleaf Farm. You see no one, and as far as you can tell, nobody has observed your passage.
Qelline has left a stack of neatly folded, multicolored blankets. There's no hay in the loft, but it's clean and spacious, and with blankets, comfortable enough.
Bryony slips into the main farmhouse, where she gives Qelline a fright. "Oh! Bry! You scared me. Don't sneak in like that! Your friends get into the loft okay?"
(Does anyone have any further business before you retire for the night?)
Quinn scouts the hayloft looking for any entrances and exits. He’ll check out any windows and see if he can spot anyone about.

I’d like to spend some time bathing under the starlight and moonlight tonight. I’ll keep an eye out for visitors… Rest well all, we buried a friend today, and who knows what tomorrow brings?”
"Alright, Jurgen. I'll be over there tryin' to get some rest. Holler if you need anything."
Quinn looks to everyone else and says in a hushed voice. "Rest well, friends." With that, Quinn hunkers down in the corner. He sets out a few arrows, just in case, and sleeps with his bow in hand.

Keeping a careful watch, Jurgen, Quinn, Syzygy, and Kimberley get their rest in the less-than-luxurious Alderleaf hayloft, while Bryony sleeps peacefully in her old bed in the main farmhouse. The night passes uneventfully, although around midnight Syzygy's sharp night eyes briefly see a distant, moving light up at the ruins of Tresendar Manor. But before he can even register what he's looking at, it's gone.
You awaken to the long rays of the early morning sun. Another clear, bright day, with a hint of humidity in the air. Everyone may receive the benefits of a long rest.
Quinn was up early as well to give thanks to the Wild Mother as the Sword Mountains were lit up with alpenglow. He checked the fletching of his arrows and made sure the shafts were true. He tested the edge on his battle axe and though it was not as sharp as he would like, it will do just fine.
"Sounds like a good plan, Jurgen."
The grizzled old ranger looks to Kimberly and ponders her question about the tunnel near Sir Roderick's.
"I...uh. I think the tunnel went due south. Actually, if that's true, the tunnel went in the direction of this farm. I wonder if Auntie Qelline knows of any cave ins on her farm." Quinn pauses momentarily thinking back to the tunnels. "Those tunnels sure looked like mining tunnels, huh? Wonder if those tunnels are connected to the Wave Echo cave."

“Saw a light flicker at Tresender while on watch.” Syzygy announces while sitting eyes still closed in meditation. “Not sure what it was.” He then opens his eyes. Syzygy stretches and yawns, he focusses the arcane energies within himself and a shimmering field briefly crosses his form as he casts mage armour. “Yes, the secret tunnel, I think that’s our best bet.”
(The tunnel you discovered under Sir Roderick's property runs due south and gently downward for 100 feet or so – probably under the road, and in the direction of Alderleaf Farm. But then it ends in a natural crevasse running east and west, probably roughly parallel to that road, but a little north of the farm.)
(Meanwhile, Bryony knows that the "secret tunnel", as described by Carp, is east of the farm, in the woods south of Tresendar Manor, and much closer to it – at the foot of Tresendar Hill. She should be able to find it, based on Carp's description, from her youthful knowledge of the area.)
"Hmmm...a light you say. Maybe a torch? Or maybe one of those dammed goblins with glowing hands? Let's check on Bryony and get on our way before the locals are out and about."
Quinn grabs his gear and starts making his way down the hayloft.

“Yes Goblins with glowing hands, or the rebrands moving about. That’s what I thought at first as well.” Syzygy grabs his things and follows Quinn out of the hayloft and continuing the conversation he says “It could also be that wizard we’re looking for. A signal maybe? True though, not really any clear message in such a brief flash of light.”
Unless Bryony or others have further business this morning with Qelline or at Alderleaf farm, the party follows Bryony through the eastern fields and into the brambly forest below Tresendar Hill. It's impossible to see the ruined manor once you're in the forest, but on your way in you could see that there's very little standing of this small castle atop the hill – apparently just a few bare walls and massive piles of collapsed masonry, now covered in shrubs and weeds.
Finally, you arrive at the hole – the remains of an old pit, maybe six or eight feet deep, nearly completely covered in vines and scrubby bushes. You've seen more than a few pits like this in your short time in Phandalin – an ancient foundation, perhaps, or a test hole left by prospectors decades or centuries ago. It's hard to tell.
Following Carp's advice, you get down on your hands and knees and crawl down into the shallow hole, peering under the bushes at its bottom. Sure enough, you can see it open into blackness, a rough natural passage leading deep into the hillside.
There is nobody about, nor much of anything evident besides dead leaves, branches, and greenery.
Do you want to enter? In what order? Anything you want to do first?
