Bryony races into the next room where the wolf has retreated with the goblin, and plunging her blades upward, pierces its heart an kills it instantly. She is nearly buried by the collapsing body of the massive wolf, and just manages to dodge it.
Quinn redirects his aim toward the seared goblin boss, but it glances off its filthy wooden shield, instead.
Syzygy is up next! Only one nervous-looking goblin boss near Bryony is immediately visible.
Badly burnt and near collapse, the goblin carefully backs away from Bryony (disengage) and makes a run for it to the south, vanishing through the filthy canvas curtain. You hear the southern door slam, presumably behind it as he flees.
Jurgen, Bryony, and Quinn may attempt to pursue it, or you may choose to end combat.
Jurgen catches his breath. He suggests letting the goblin go but keeping on alert if he brings back friends. "We need to get our dwarven boss to help and we need to find our friend."
Quinn steps past Jurgen and a trail of casualties, including the king's twisted body, to the table in the King's Quarters. Gundren's map is pretty crude - a rough sketch, really, with few landmarks and even fewer labels. But Phandalin is marked, and part of the Triboar Trail visible, together with a few mountain peaks. Most importantly, you see a careful "X" marked "WEC" – Wave Echo Cave, the legendary cavern that Sildar spoke so much about. You feel there's just enough detail in the map that you probably locate this cave without issue - it looks about 10 or 12 miles east of Phandalin, deep in the mountains.
While Quinn examines the map, Jurgen removes the rest of the boards blocking the door to the south tower. Inside, he finds near-pitch darkness; even the arrow slits here are shuttered. It takes a moment for his darkvision to kick in.
The upper floors of this tower have collapsed to create a hollow silo at least thirty feet high. The upper reaches of the room are lost in shadows. It’s clear that this area hasn’t been used for some time. Dust, rubble, and broken glass cover the floor, and old worktables and bookshelves clutter the southern half of the room.
The door to the east opens. An astonished hobgoblin appears. He gathers his composure and fires carefully at Jurgen:
New Hobgoblin Longbow Attack vs. Jurgen: 23. Hit: 8 piercing damage.
Syzygy is up next! The massive, seared dire wolf is in very bad shape, as is the goblin boss behind it. The new hobgoblin to the east is uninjured.
(While there wasn't much strength behind its slightly rushed shot, it catches Jurgen in the next. Crit damage: +4)
Syzygy may act next!
Chill touch 23 to hit. 1 damage.
Syzygy invokes a ghostly, skeletal hand near the wolf, assailing it with the chill of the grave. It is badly hurt.
Out of self-preservation, the wolf disengages and backs away, near the goblin boss.
The goblin boss fires another arrow, this one at Jurgen:
Shortbow Attack vs. Jurgen: 10. Hit: 5 piercing damage.
Jurgen, Bryony, and Quinn may act next!
Jurgen, seeing the Hobgoblin will close and attack. (23 to hit with 11 damage)
D&D since 1984
Bryony follows Jurgen to engage the hobgoblin.
Shortsword - Attack: 10 Damage: 9
Dagger - Attack: 8 Damage: 4

Jurgen lunges for the newcomer, taking him down with a single blow before Bryony can get to him.
Quinn is up (and Bryony can redirect that last attack (sans sneak attack) toward the wolf or goblin, if she dares run into the thick of it.)
Quinn focuses his aim on the massive wolf down the hallway and fires.

“Agreed. Let’s get Gundren and see if we can figure out where they took Kimberly.”
Quinn gets out the map and studies it to see if it offers up any clues.

Jurgen suggests opening the last door just in case. He moves over and using his crowbar opens the last couple boards

Quinn commits the location of Wave Echo Cave to memory and secures the map in his pack. He’ll then move to search the hobgoblin and goblin boss.
As he passes the rest of group he asks them to be on their guard and watch for any more threats.

Syzygy will also have a good look at the map.
then, hearing Jurgen pry the boards, he goes to give him back up.
[drop concentration on bonfire]
The map safely stowed, Quinn returns to search the two humanoid bodies, but finds nothing in their pockets but a half-eaten bird and a lost tooth.
Syzygy joins Jurgen in the other room – he sees nothing but dust, rubble, broken glass, and rotten furniture inside the dark, clearly unused tower.
